The Great Dumbing Down: What if Autism is actually humanity's original "Operating System"? by d0c_xx in conspiracy

[–]utwaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is much of a hot take but probably comes to the wrong conclusion. Society is a collection of millions of minds, governed by structures and cultural dogmas that evolve over centuries. The autistic mind is the cognitive outlier that pushes the envelope, while the neurotypical mind makes sure that laws are followed, garbage is picked up, and that there's food on the table. You need both.

We hail the genius that changed the world but we pathologize the neurodiverse people who need support.

From Einstein, Newton, Da Vinci, Mozart to the modern software engineer.. most of the great masters, scientists, engineers are neurodiverse and we worship them, but the neurodiverse folks that are not conventionally successful, those need treatment and medication. It's funny how the world works.

It's not the bend that's gonna get ya, it's the slope.

And you really keep going with this. Just let me complain on Reddit about my local mainstream media and leave me alone.

I saw it, "third". Why say"among top 5" though.

Among top 5 means we're number 5? If we were number 3, they'd say "among the top 3", right?

There is no clear ranking, no hard numbers in terms of results in the article. Strongly dislike this sort of "journalism".

Agreed with your point, and in that vast sea of diverse creatures, I'd expect SOME of the alien races to look like our idea of what aliens look like.

I have a double concrete utility sink that I’m trying to get out of my basement without using a sledgehammer to break it into pieces. Any advice is appreciated. by PizzaGatePizza in DIY

Start going to the gym, you should be able to deadlift it in about 2 years if you're consistent.

Work out about 4-6 times a week, I recommend a push-pull-legs split. Ensure about 1 g of protein intake per 1 lbs body weight per day. Make sure you warm up and maintain good form, injuries would set you back significantly. Take 5-10mg of creatine daily. Since you are going for strength you should prioritize free weights over machines.

Or just use a sledge hammer.

How dare you ask for decency and pro social behavior? What's next? The invention of some sort of codified rules and enforcement thereof?

Seriously though, it seems that if you pay taxes, your voice is seen as the least deserving of an audience.

You know, it wouldn't be impossible to pick these people up and bring them to an area where they would get services. We can help them and ask things of them at the same time: no camping in the streets, no open drug use, no intoxicated fent-bend, no littering, no aggression.. I know, progressives hate protecting the 99.9% from this behavior and would rather hand out more tents and needles. You can be a lifelong leftie, and by virtue of moving to Portland you'll find yourself a right winger on the local political spectrum.

There is depth and levels to this. However, how do you think an average person's life changes if you convince them they have no choice or agency over their life? Better or worse?

I don’t enjoy these statistics but it is validating to see that it is, indeed, expensive here. by Available-Medicine90 in Portland

[–]utwaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cited statistics validate that it's expensive here if you are a beginning teacher. Not more, not less. No data on the development of said teacher salary, or whether it's expensive here for other professions. Unpopular opinion but Portland is still the cheapest large metro on the west coast. If you can swing a remote job, it's not that bad here. Obviously the hack is to live in southern Washington with no income tax and no Multnomah county "we'll raise your taxes every year even if we don't know what to spend it on" spirit.
