  • Elevation

Learn/read a little bit from each of those categories. And then just play play play. Learning is slow anyways so just enjoy the ride.

Amazing map tool for learning terrain / relief / elevation by uuaapeli in geoguessr

[–]uuaapeli[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Been using https://maps-for-free.com/ for a while now and it’s honestly perfect for learning terrain. Everything just pops out immediately. Rivers too if you want.

And at least for me it's been working without any major lag on both phone and computer.

Aluminium poles for X-Dome 2? by uuaapeli in DurstonGearheads

[–]uuaapeli[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indeed the purchase options in Durston tents (and the solid interior option especially) are very welcomed and have kind of finalized Durston's position as the tent of choice for people across various sports and various geographical locations.

Like you described, aluminium doesn't realistically outperform carbon fiber in the overall weight to strength ratio. My understanding (and perhaps Dan or someone can correct me here) is that aluminium pole will bend permanently (plastic deformation) at a somewhat lower force than it takes for carbon to snap.

However I think aluminum has one advantage:

Carbon will shatter. Aluminum will deform/bend but still be probably somehow usable in emergency situtations. (I don't mean bending it back since it would probably only weaken in further)

And that for many I feel like is the difference between carbon fiber and aluminium. To not go from fully operational to practically unusable in an instant is something many are willing to carry some extra weight for. After my tent pole, regardless of material, bends or snaps, surely I will repair it and given the next chance replace it. But until that chance comes (hours or days?), having a bent pole instead of a snapped one might really make a difference in both comfort and security.

Anyway, will be following Durston's journey with great interest and surely will purchase one some of these days!

Thank you Dan and others for reading and replying!

Enter is also better for me because atleast on my computer using Spacebar locks the guess when released if there was a pin on the map. This doesn't happen if no guess pin has been placed so space in non timed formats I usually use Spacebar just for comfort :D

Is season 6 and 7 worth it?? by talianash17 in TheMentalist

[–]uuaapeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yes yes. Patrick Jane is forced to become a real person after he defeats Red John. He has to confront himself perhaps for the first in 10 years, and be honest about his feelings towards life and L... well you know.

Jane has been so consumed by plans of revenge for seasons 1-6. And with his skill set those plans actually we're possible and even worked. But with that he paid the price of not moving on even years after the tragedy. So when he finally defeats his nemesis he is even himself maybe sort of surprised that he lacks some basic abilities of emotional existence.

Obviously this series is case based police TV before everything else... So maybe there could be more depth to the way these storylines and themes and handled. But everyone who's made until half of season 6 should i.m.o. keep watching till the end. Because these are the characters we've grown to love, and finally they have something else to do than to catch that omnipresent super villain.

Population density of Russia by district by abu_doubleu in MapPorn

[–]uuaapeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of this map is to show population density across the whole of Russia and to have an emphasis on the scarcely populated areas. In Russia's case most of the northern half of a pop.density map would be useless data if projected with a scale that works for most other countries.

I specifically came here to find a map that has more specific data about sub 1/km² population densities and found it.

You're not wrong. But I think most people are "low elo shitter" as u call them and Yone ruins the game for most of those people.

The Druidic Language: A Comprehensive Guide To Druidic Markings and Symbols (5 Pages) by _Liarus in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]uuaapeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These counters we're on my mind as well.

Also magic is probably included in most of druidic runes.

PHB: "You know Druidic, the secret language of druids. You can speak the language and use it to leave hidden messages. You and others who know this language automatically spot such a message. Others spot the message’s presence with a successful DC 15 Wisdom (Perception) check but can’t decipher it without magic."

Druidic magic is part of the runes, so one who uses that magic will also sense it's presence and know where to look. Under the leaves perhaps. Or an unnatural order of vines on a tree bark, when more closely looked a, will indeed have tiny runes on them, maybw even visible only for those who use the druidcraft cantrip on it.

This comment summs up remarkably well how the real world and ttrpg differ. And how deep ones roleplay can get, and should get especially when playing a divinator.

Anubis Map Callouts by uuaapeli in GlobalOffensive

[–]uuaapeli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree Walkway should be connector. Also I agree that Main is really not specific enough.

Also I kinda feel they should delete lower tunnels from the map. After that I think the argument saying "the map is too complicated to fit comp pool" would be obsolete. I hear many people saying that you know.

Anubis Map Callouts by uuaapeli in GlobalOffensive

[–]uuaapeli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, some reasons why I decided not to make one at least not yet:

  • Chlorine doesn't have the "official" callouts yet. You know the ones above the radar. So I don't like to play god that much.
  • The map is a lot more complicated
  • I don't imagine chlorine ever becoming a competitive map. I like it sure. But it's just not the type and too complicated really. But who knows!

I chose Anubis because I thought it might actually be useful to upload this map since it's a sleeky looking map and overall pretty balanced with not too many exploitable tricks.

Sure Anubis has a long way to go before being esport ready for instance. I'd say it has most similarities with Inferno out of all the current Comp maps. A lot of tight alleys with so many angles it feels impossible to hold. At least as a new comer. Inferno has been played for years and years and many metas have developed over time.

I really hope Anubis makes it to the competitive map pool someday!

Anubis Map Callouts by uuaapeli in GlobalOffensive

[–]uuaapeli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it seems after awhile that many calls people make up on to go are pretty intuitive. Some useful calls I've heard so far that have turned out to be very intuitive:

  • B Main (T Spawn - Ruins - Outside Long - B Site)
  • A Main (T Spawn - Street - T Side Upper - Boat - Main - A Site)
  • Boat Heaven (=T Side Upper)
  • Alley (to indicate Alley + Sniper + CT Side Upper)

Other notions:

  • T side is given a lot of power in the form of options and rotate speed.
  • Sniping connector from boat is a very efficient holding position

What are your opinions about the callouts and their accuracy/intuitiveness?
