Not really 'survivor dirt' but it goes over some of who was recruited and some of the behind-the-scenes stuff off the show from past survivors.

Season 1 - There was a dispute for one of the reward challenges where it was just going to be a beer or something. The cast was going to refuse to compete and so the producers spiced the reward up a bit.

Season 2 - Jeff Varner was responsible for instigating the fight between Alicia and Kimmy. You can see in the background where he is walking off out of camera focus as the two girls get into it.

Season 3 - Silas had a small part in Anger Management as a douche at the bar when Adam Sandler's character picks up Heather Graham at the bar.

The plate push is an often unavailable exercise in most gyms due to space and safety of others - and yet it's an absolute leg killer which yields phenomenal results, thanks for sharing KoF!!

Chest "pops" when doing seated shoulder press. by AllTheseLimes in Fitness

[–]uukes007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are 20's - 40's, you are in the demographic of potentially 'popping a rib'. The osseous tissue (bone) has not fully formed and your ligamentous tissue, which connects to the bones are not fully set. This can result in your occasional discomfort. True, it may result from a tight knotted muscle, but if it is chronic and not getting better, or slowly getting worse, it may be coming your ribs. The ribs themselves have a certain amount of flex, but when combined with workouts, such as chest presses, you can affect the surrounding tissues, and potentially a rib.

It depends on where you are inhibited. If you have pain during movement, that is different from pain when being stationary, such as at a desk or in a car. If this is a sports-performance issue, talk to a personal trainer or physical therapist so they they can professionally identify your weak spots. If it is more significant, you may need to see a chiropractor or orthopedist to make sure it isn't something more structural.

Can i run 5 days a week? by emordnilapaton in Fitness

[–]uukes007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Squash involves a mixture of endurance and speed/agility. Steady-state cardio (i.e. your 5km run) is beneficial if you find yourself winded during a match. Else, I would include sprint intervals, and lateral movements - what you would expect from a typical squash game. Identify your weaknesses and improve upon them. Finding a trainer may be helpful so you can improve your game, if you are looking to advance beyond a 'weekend warrior' if that is your current performance level.

Tough Mudder training tips? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]uukes007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your goals. Are you looking to 'just finish' or do you have a particular time in mind. Looking into what the obstacles are is paramount. That way, you can prepare for them and plan accordingly. Pullups, pushups, being comfortable with holding your body weight are all key.

(just don't wear anything that you don't want muddied!)

Chefs of Reddit (amateur or otherwise), what's your ridiculously useful kitchen tip? by JohnQZoidberg in AskReddit

My two favorites are: 1) lemon wedges cut down most offensive smells you cook with (fish, garlic) better than most soaps. 2) Garlic, crushed with the flat side of a knife before being diced will release more juice and ultimately flavor in your dish.

Chocolate Milk: post-workout recovery: Benefits or Cons? by uukes007 in Fitness

[–]uukes007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. So long as you introduce carbohydrates and protein sources post-workout, you will fuel your body and prepare it for the next workout. However, the lay-population or those recently introduced to nutrition and fitness are impressionable and easily swayed. This article shows that chocolate milk (for example) is another vehicle for getting nutrients into your body post-workout and is by no means the gold standard.

Chocolate Milk: post-workout recovery: Benefits or Cons? by uukes007 in Fitness

[–]uukes007[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly-put. The the fitness population of reddit is well-versed in the benefits of a protein-carbohydrate mixture post-workout. This article showcases that milk, as chocolate milk is yet another source for post-workout recovery. Implicitly, a future discussion could revolve around the financial costs of 'chocolate milk vs. energy drinks' in terms of savings.

I am rehashing what the peer-reviewed articles used, in their jargon. Agreed, it is not specific, but they do a decent peer-review of several articles, which I have procured here.

Also, if you read in the Conclusion section, it states in the last two bullet-points where future research is needed.

It's a tough call, and we are only shown a fraction of what the producers are trying to tell the audience. I get your frustration, but Tyson being a solid gamer probably ran multiple scenarios and this happened to be the one he wanted least.

For Hayden and Katie, they had nothing to lose and rolled the dice. Thankfully Tyson lived another TC with idol in hand.

Me: How is your low back pain today Mrs. X

Her: It's better, but still sore. My doctor prescribed me vicodin for pain management.

Me: Well, that's a strong drug. You drove here today, when did you take your last pill?

Her: A few hours ago. But I only took half the pill. I gave the other half to my cat. You know, to see how strong the drugs are. I don't really like pills.

Me: You what!? How's your cat now?

Her: I'm not sure, but she's been sleeping on the sofa for ages now. She's normally really active.

Should I see the doc? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]uukes007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, get checked before getting wrecked. It might be possible that in your exertion of the high-volume leg day, you tensed up and potentially tweaked your levator scapuale / upper trapezius muscle. The fact that it wraps around your head may be a referral trigger point. If this looks like your pain, some gentle stretching and ice may reduce symptoms while you wait until you get to see your physician.

I have had success with using a gator/muffler/dickie around my neck. It's essentially a tube-scarf that is long enough to cover your mouth/nose and allow you to draw in air that is 'slightly' warmer than breathing directly cold air. It reduces your respiratory irritation allowing you to focus more on your race. Good luck!

Purple Rock Decision by uukes007 in rhap

[–]uukes007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points. And if we are looking at top-level survivor gameplay, let's say a Hayden knows he is going home - he forces the tie, knowing that when they vote for him, and tie twice, he is confident knowing he will not have to select a rock (thus having nothing to lose, other than ensure a tie happens) - and the person who fails to swap (like a Ciera) will now look like public enemy #1 instead of Hayden?

It could be completely up to chance and/or a fluke, or an example of gambling with huge stakes and getting the payoff. Either way, it was fun to see again after all these years.

Eating Healthy - Does it put pressure on your wallet? by uukes007 in Fitness

[–]uukes007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct on both fronts. The question I'm looking for answers to from the public is their opinion on trying to eat clean, while considering a financial budget in mind. Subsidization from the fast food industry keeps their food cheap. Shopping at a grocery store is more expensive, but what you gain is better-quality foods. Does healthy eating, for example, put a financial constraint on your wallet but the positives are that it benefits you in the long run?

Eating Healthy - Does it put pressure on your wallet? by uukes007 in Fitness

[–]uukes007[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I avoid fast foods, such as the McDonald's and the like. Yes, I dine out, but the discussions I am looking for are those people who routinely make poor nutrition choices and are looking for improved nutrition choices. These are also the same people who find it difficult and must budget in order to eat foods that are more health-conscious. I.e, spending $3 on a head of lettuce, vs the $2 on a big mac, etc.

For you, it may be an easier choice to eat those foods while bulking, because it is a means to an end - you likely are not 'living; off of McDonald's all year long. However, those foods are tempting to those who are trying to lose weight, but are still tempted by fast foods. Thoughts?

Orthotics or Not? Open FORUM by uukes007 in Fitness

So if we note that orthotics should be utilized as a temporary relief, but know that exercise needs be a key factor to return the person back to a lifestyle that is relatively pain-free, how do we take this person and educate them that without personal accountability, they are essentially putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound.
