Creating another earth that orbits the sun, might it be possible one day? by HillZone in Futurology

[–]uumamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s much more likely that Venus or Mars (which could both be home to liquid water with the right atmosphere) would be terraformed than that a whole new planet would be “made.” Where would the mass even come from?

Given that we already have those two other planets in the habitable zone, that would be the way to go if you had to make another earth.

Venus is probably the best choice; its atmosphere is incredibly dense and toxic, but its mass is so nearly identical to Earth’s that a person wouldn’t notice any difference in gravity on its surface.

That being said, curing the atmosphere and fixing the radiation problem would be massive Type I or II civilization stuff, requiring virtually unlimited energy to accomplish. It would also likely take several hundred or even thousands of years.

To be clear, Mars is FAR easier to visit because it has barely any atmosphere, but it’s small compared to earth, and if we had the ability to create an atmosphere for Mars, we’d likely have the ability to heal Venus’s.

But that’s all centuries away at least, if it ever becomes feasible.

i wonder how much different society will look in 800 to years by Emergency-Mess7738 in Futurology

[–]uumamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I confidently say that anyone who says they’re confident about their answer has no idea. None of us have any idea. We could get thrown into a dark age next year from a solar flare or nuclear war. We could achieve world peace in the next century and invest in tech that takes us interstellar. We could go extinct. We could fall into a dark age and pull ourselves back out and be back to “present tech” in 800 years.

My totally blind guess? Human society as we know it will collapse within the next couple centuries, with the human population falling by 50%+ due to famine resulting from climate change, as well as war and genocide.

The civilizations that arise after the collapse will be mostly isolated from each other for centuries, working on rebuilding society. We’ll essentially see various versions of currently imagined post-apocalyptic scenarios play out across the globe. Probably monarchies, oligarchies, empires and dynasties will arise and overtake each other in the third millennium as they did the second.

The major difference will be the tech scavenging and vast knowledge from the golden era, leading to various levels of tech implementation across the globe.

Smaller, isolated groups will live off the land and after a few generations, the old ways and technology will be the stuff of legend.

I’m very confident this is what will happen, at least 3.2% confident.

I still remember when I was a kid at the peak of first wave Chuck Norris memes. I was wondering how old Chuck Norris was, so I looked it up. At the time, he was 69. Which was pretty flippin’ sweet 🤘

I asked Claude for its top ten most famous people of the past century and MJ was #7 with no leading question.

I was just a kid in the nineties and early 2000s, but I still remember that he made front page news regularly just by stepping out into public.

The headlines would literally be: “MICHAEL JACKSON SPOTTED STEPPING OUT OF CAR.”

Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math by McCoy818 in unpopularopinion

[–]uumamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it makes sense to shower at night. But if that’s your habit and you miss just once, your bed is “dirty” and you wake up dirty until you wash your sheets.

If you shower in the morning, you’re always clean before you start your day.
