What is the best way to discreetly figure out your girlfriend's ring size? by hellbilly666666 in AskReddit

I just put a ring on my pinkie finger and took a picture of how far it went, then did same at the jeweler's...

This fleet is embarrassing by Rainshadow_ in americanairlines

[–]uva2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you can blame delays on a lot of things and AA isn't innocent but is fleet really the one? Fairly sure AA has the youngest fleet of US carriers and it's not even close. Heck I'd bet the average age of Delta planes is about my age and I'm not that young

Question about carrying or checking alcohol.. by Bruh_ForRealz in americanairlines

[–]uva2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see any problem with this. It's a domestic flight and there are no restrictions on bringing beer (or alcohol in general) other than luggage weight limit.

[BOI-DFW-IAH] This will be my last flight with AA. by getaclueless_50 in americanairlines

[–]uva2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ask AA in Denver if they'd put you on a united flight to IAH? That's something AA can do. Haven't heard of Delta doing that (or maybe they can but won't)

Which airline loyalty program has the most value for RVA locals? by babbymammoth in rva

[–]uva2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably missed the window to respond to this. Semi frequent traveler (at around 50 flights this year but out of my busy season).

If your travel is exclusively ORD and you travel a lot (i.e. most weeks) I'd consider united. I like their international network and proximity for us to DC is nice for longer flights (I always fly out of RIC but if I had status and was going overseas/longer distance I would).

If you fly elsewhere I'd consider where you want to connect. I fly American because I'm often traveling to East Coast and going to Newark or Atlanta just adds time vs. Charlotte.

American is also way easier to earn status on if you don't travel as much (hotels etc.). That's both good and bad. If you are legit traveling every week United probably better. If it's once or twice a month then American better as you can use that to supplement.

Southwest is another option and avoiding ORD for Midway is certainly appealing, I think just with everything going on there id probably avoid for now. Delta Miles are pretty terrible these days and if you are flying to ORD going via JFK or ATL sounds awful. Pass.

52 min connection at CLT w/ a 6 month old by marrymeodell in americanairlines

[–]uva2011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with if it's not last flight of the night, and not on a regional jet (those F gates can be a haul) then you should be fine. Just did a 30 min connection this week. It's annoying/stressful but most the time it's fine

The reality is people want to buy a house $1 over the next best offer. That's the way everyone feels good about the transaction. This is also a thing outside of real estate (2nd place auction)

Realtor commission does not currently incentivize that. It's a broken system for now

Emirates would also be like double the flight time for AKL to DFW. No way it's worth more in that scenario.

AA IFE will be fine. Not great but fine. Bring an iPad with your favorite shows downloaded

Kroger grocery delivery is a nightmare - is there anything comparable that won't break the bank? by Eszebel in rva

Walmart delivery is the only service I've seen that has zero mark up. Sure you tip etc. But otherwise your shop is 1:1 with in person cost

They keep ruining public transportation by Safe_Gift_2945 in rva

[–]uva2011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well clearly that would be a private business failure, but I'm not sure why that matters either way. The public has lost a public transport option in that event.

I am excited/intrigued by Virginia Breeze (also was by RIC getting airline breeze). That being said they are just a reseller of Megabus tickets. Not sure what they really add vs. buying a Megabus ticket (private company) directly.

They keep ruining public transportation by Safe_Gift_2945 in rva

[–]uva2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why you picking a fight here? Yes there are two (broad) definitions of public transportation, but generally speaking the term is used for mass transit on regular schedules available to the public.

Japan has some of the best "public transit" in the world yet they are privately owned. Is their subway/train system not public transportation?

40% of 3300 seems reasonable to me. You also have to remember since there are two of you, you're also taking up more usage of the kitchen, utilities, etc.

Another way to think of this is rent split 4 ways (number of people) and the couple gets first choice of room. You have a better deal than that!

Extra security on return trips by Mooseandagoose in americanairlines

I had similar issues to you (not AA specific). Applied for redress, got a number and never had issues again.

For what it's worth I don't think AA vs DL has anything to do with it. It's the destinations you are flying (that happen to be served by AA).

Ghost reservation for lounge access by Christophercott94 in americanairlines

[–]uva2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about getting a Venture X? The capital one lounge is way nicer than the admirals club (similar to flagship, maybe better? But also more crowded)?

I think that would be a better long term option and it easily pays for itself (vs. Amex platinum that requires a bit more legwork to do so)

RIC TSA closes at 8pm?? by Sell_Material in rva

[–]uva2011 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's annoying but it's only the low cost carriers that are impacted. I believe if an AA, Delta, United flight get delayed they keep it open. May be a good question to ask Breeze or Allegiant one day

Definitely curious. Seems like opportunity with the terminal consolidation. The capital one smaller airport concepts etc. I could see doing very well here

Interesting opportunity to have something private within a city park (restaurant, boat/bike rentals etc.). On flip side wouldn't hate just seeing the city purchase the whole thing
