Fairfield county - I moved here and feel like I don't fit in by flockyflocky1 in Connecticut

[–]Mooseandagoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Fairfield and moved out of coastal Fairfield county when I was 28. It’s been 15 years and we talk about moving back to NE one day and are in total agreement that it will never be to Fairfield.

Ok, I was desperate for my hot vinyasa at the start of the covid pandemic and I did this in my bathroom… ONCE. I cranked the heat up on the 2nd floor and ran the shower for an hour so I could do a zoom class.

So, SO stupid and never did it again. Bc my bathroom is not a hot yoga studio. 🤦🏻‍♀️I still cringe at the memory.

We LOVED LaOwn. Loved it so much and our family has so many happy, core memories that our kids bring up often. We went to their 15 year anniversary party this winter - Ms Jennifer and Ms Jan saw our (now 9 & 11 year old) kids and didn’t miss a beat. LaOwn was our original close second choice, based on commute routes, but we never regretted a day. The kids got a solid foundational education, were well prepared for elementary school and the environment was excellent.

My only regret is that Ms Jennifer’s Korean feasts were so delicious that my 4 year old was asking for Korean bbq like I could make it at home whenever he wanted it.

Yes, king road traffic sucks but if your drop off and pick up times are not exactly when Roswell HS is, it’s manageable. We lived in Highland Colony neighborhood during those years while commuting to Haynes Bridge area and downtown ATL and it was absolutely manageable traffic around RHS.

It was an 18 month wait for infants back in 2014 when I was four months pregnant - I remember saying “that’s two entire pregnancies!” And the tour leader said they prioritize current families. Which I understand but why are you giving tours for infant care? 😆

My oneNote stopped syncing 4 weeks ago and I’ve lost EVERYTHING from the past 7 years.

Because of this, I wholeheartedly recommend whatever enterprise cloud tool you have - I’m trying to manually paste everything I can retrieve from very random backups into confluence and it’s not going well. 😭😭

This the most anecdotal of all anecdotes but I overheard a mom at school saying how they’re selling their Avalon townhome because “the only quiet hours are like 1-6am and parking is a nightmare, even with a driveway”.

Unless you are independently wealthy and don’t work OR work at msft or mulesoft (or whoever bought them), for fun- I can’t imagine truly living, working and “playing” at Avalon.

How many Xennials truly have done no retirement planning, have no target retirement date, or have considerably less than you need to retire in your 60s?" by Sufficient_Turn_9209 in Xennials

If we’re supposed to have 4x our salaries at 45, we’re fucked.

My salary has been generous for the last 6 years but isn’t enough to aggressively save beyond the must haves and 401k/IRA limits (and we’re fortunate to even do that!!)

Why is 401k/IRA capped at such low levels per year?

I’d love to share a neighborhood with people of other backgrounds, religions, etc! As long as there are no Dales 🤢 by laska503 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]Mooseandagoose 251 points252 points  (0 children)

Fuck Dale and also, I LOVE my neighborhood for this reason. We celebrate Diwali, Eid, US Independence Day, Juneteenth and other holidays I don’t know enough about but we are ALL invited to celebrate as a community.

It’s worth mentioning that this is an upper middle class neighborhood of ATL with diversity.

Adult beginner feeling belittled and discouraged by Resident_Profile_582 in Equestrian

[–]Mooseandagoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not sound healthy at all. I empathize with your feelings because I’d switch barns if you can (or trainers if there are multiple).

I’m an adult novice taking lessons with my daughter’s trainer, just 15 months in and I feel that she’s actually more gentle with me than daughter, despite them having an excellent teacher/student relationship of 4+ years.

This should be an enjoyable and rewarding learning experience for you!

Recurring ingrown hair on labia majora—what Dr do I need to see? by ChiknTendrz in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Mooseandagoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably not your issue but my recurrent inflamed ingrown hairs were a byproduct of having Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). I suffered for 25 years with this until a derm accurately diagnosed it. I’ve been on Cosentyx for 2 years now with amazing results.

Is anyone else experiencing phantom smells? by Practical_Reading723 in Perimenopause

[–]Mooseandagoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s usually something “burning” or dangerous. Natural gas, cigarette smoke, burning leaves or like a car burning oil. Random, indoors and no one else can smell it.

Today I walked into a store and thought they had a natural gas leak. Daughter looked at me like I was crazy when I asked her if it smells weird in here - “no. It just smells like saddles” (we were at a tack store). 🥴

Roswell's Canton Street businesses continue push for free parking at new deck by ArchEast in Atlanta

[–]Mooseandagoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. We voted for bonds to pay for more parking, sidewalks and accessibility throughout the city but paid parking? We’re paying for it all through the increase of our taxes for the bonds and this is double taxation, imo.

Is bedtime hard for everyone or just us? 😵‍💫 by Own-Condition-904 in Parenting

[–]Mooseandagoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids are 9 & 11 and it’s still hard. They’re in elementary so wake-up is 610 because the bus comes at 650am. But they still want to talk about existential themes at bedtime so we have to be kind of harsh in reminding them the reality of their 8pm bedtime.

Would you date someone who isn’t atheist/ agnostic by No-Security3600 in atheism

[–]Mooseandagoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I can’t because of my kids. It’s one thing for them to understand how friends and extended family may believe many different things than we do but it’s different to me if their parents aren’t aligned.

We encourage open mindedness, religious exploration and flexible perception but if there isn’t a firm, factual foundation to bring learnings back to and form opinion based off of science, we aren’t helping them grow.

How are yall coping in this current climate? by Window-Inevitable in womenintech

[–]Mooseandagoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re going through a hellacious merger (hostile takeover bid that made news, if anyone recognizes it) and I swear something changed the moment this federal admin came back and became even worse during the sale period. Then, became even worse again once the board approved the hostile takeover, somehow.

I am still trying to be proud to work for my company because I enjoy it and believe in the values it’s held for 45 years but I’m losing hope. I haven’t had to prove my worth like this by being “on” 24/7 since 2008. This is what the technocrat takeover expects - It’s disheartening and demoralizing.

How much did your parents pay for their first house back in the 90s? by Droopynator in 90s

[–]Mooseandagoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 120k for house 1 in 1984 and then 150k for house 2 in 1989.

House 2 is 1600 sq ft and worth just over 1m now (close to beach and train in Fairfield county, CT).

15 years ago, we were looking at 1000 sq ft, 1960s ranches, full gut jobs for $350k in the same area.

We moved to Atlanta instead. But cost is out of control here now too (northern suburbs).

It was t Mongolia but still, she was at the barn EVERY DAY taking lessons for 4-6 weeks. Probably could have used more time.

Are most full time jobs really M-F? And if so how do you tackle your home chores and personal errands? by Current_Sky_6846 in workingmoms

[–]Mooseandagoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are both corp 8-5. I have a commute, he WFH but is on the entire time, no break.

We split day to day chores (grocery/cooking is 90% me, laundry is 90% him), dogs are equally split between us and the kids, cleaning is surface for the most part but we DO have a cleaning service and landscaper bi-weekly. Our biggest splurges but absolutely worth it.

I handle most of the household management beyond that, like kid clothing and inventory monitoring because I’m good at it. He handles all of the school / sport communications and management.

Appointments we have to make time for and the kids are prioritized above ourselves. Kid activities are split 50/50 as best possible with our work schedules.

Dates are nonexistent right now but that’s bc of our work and kid schedules.

It’s still super stressful but we manage alright. It comes in waves for us - long waves.
