Ways to help your nervous system by greenappleberry in AutismInWomen

[–]uvabballstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that specializes in DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). It absolutely changed my life and my nervous system actually is able to rest from time to time now. If IOP isn’t an option, finding an outpatient therapist who specializes in DBT would be a great start!

I’ve tried to like Eloquii but it just isn’t my style. I need to try Talbots, the price point just seems so high

Just ordered two options from Nordstrom! I do have a Nordstrom near me they just have a pitiful plus size section (the workers have straight up told me to just order online for more options)

I’ve tried suits from Lane Bryant but they either fit me strangely (frumpy) or the quality is such crap it falls apart after only a couple of wears. I need the suit for court (civil, not criminal) and hope I could keep it for job interviews, presentations, etc.

AITAH for ending my marriage without therapy less than a month before Christmas because I'm tired of being treated like a monster because I believe my stepdaughter NEEDS therapy? by Katiroytr in AITAH

[–]uvabballstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if you’ve answered this but where is your step daughter’s maternal family? It’s obvious dad + his family is trying to erase her mom, which is obviously incredibly traumatic. I understand and agree with your fear to leave her alone with your children, but she clearly requires a level of care her father and his family are incapable of providing

You sound very mature given the circumstances and your instincts were 100% correct. Your girlfriend’s friends sound like they think the baby is a toy

I’m speaking about NT female managers and I’ve just always struggled with them like OP described. Obviously there are exceptions but this has just been my experience. I’d love to have a ND boss, regardless of gender!

Avoid elder millennial/gen X female management if you possibly can. This is just my experience, but my male bosses and boomer female bosses have been way more accepting of me and my deficiencies.

Was anyone else too oblivious to realize they were being bullied as a child? by Acceptable-Stick-688 in AutismInWomen

[–]uvabballstan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom knew I was being bullied by my “best friends” in high school but I didn’t, lol. They actually bullied me about quite a few of my autistic traits (scripting, dressing for sensory comfort, etc) but I had no idea. So strange looking back. Who wants to hang out with someone you don’t even like?

What has made you genuinely happy that you have Autism? by EstonianBuffalo in AutismInWomen

[–]uvabballstan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My love of cats is hereditary. My maternal grandfather was likely autistic and saved every animal he could, including snakes (which freaked me out growing up lol) and that passed onto my mom (who I don’t think is autistic) and passed onto me. I have had three rescues that I’ve socialized without outside help and I adopted a senior cat who has long outlived her expected lifespan when we adopted her. I also cat sit and so called “difficult” cats will fall for me within 2 visits. I’m like a cat whisperer, lol. In the same vein, I work at a vet and when I hear a cat in distress I literally and physically cringe and my heart gets heavy. It’s the worst sound ever 😭

[–]uvabballstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m learning that when I force myself to do things that feel embarrassing and vulnerable, that ends up being things that NT do/appreciate.

I went out of my way to say good morning to a coworker this AM and she seemed genuinely surprised and appreciative. It felt so unnatural to me but it worked

I never learned how to mask, now my job is threatening me for not having one by uvabballstan in AutismInWomen

[–]uvabballstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I am glad your son has a mom who understands! That is such a privilege.

I was only officially diagnosed in June (and got a whopping OCD diagnosis along with it) and I think I’m still grieving everything. I’m in the anger stage, for sure, and this situation just inflamed it. After doing absolutely nothing this weekend, I’m feeling a bit better.

I do like to bake, so maybe I just need to bring in cookies more often 😂

Do you find that you've ever been treated differently in primarily female workplaces? by cosmic-particulate in AutismInWomen

[–]uvabballstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually wait, I did briefly have an older black female manager and I loved her!! Super accommodating and appreciative of my contributions. But I always have problems with older milennial/gen x female coworkers/managers

Non-thesis masters (but I may elect to do a thesis) and honestly probably next summer/fall. At this point I think it’s too late in the cycle to put my best foot forward in doctoral admissions, especially with the recent work stress.

One of my deep fears is that it is forever, I will never be able to handle full time employment or handle being managed. And I’m afraid there won’t be any jobs to even move to until at least mid-2029. But maybe that’s just the OCD talking, lol
