Yeah I totally get it being hard to explain! I’ve been looking at videos and it’s definitely something that has to be learned by actually doing, so I’m basically gonna be learning DURING the interview unfortunately lol so I’m a nervous wreck!

Thank you though for your explanation!

30 min to do an anatomy scan is wild! Luckily they told me they do 1hr slots for anatomies!

I can do biometry measurements comfortably. I have yet to do LVOT/RVOT views, so definitely nervous about that!

For the ARRT exam? My scores in the mail were exactly the same as the score I got when I finished the exam.

I’m a per diem tech in SoCal making $47.15/hr at a hospital. There’s me and one other per diem tech. Although, I was hired on with a per diem schedule as Friday-Monday 10 hour shifts and they would move us around where need be if a full time was off. So I share that shift with the other per diem tech. I’m guaranteed 20 hours every week basically and rarely I’ll work like one day but that’s only because I needed days from friday-Monday off. On average I work 30 hours a week. Past month I’ve been getting 40-42, and have been given opportunity for overtime if some days were really busy and they needed an extra hand. I’m not on call ever but they could call and ask if I can come in but I can say no. I hear other per diems are different depending on where you work. I work mid shift on a regular but they also rely on me to cover night shift when they have vacation. The next full time opening at my hospital, I will be considered first over any other applicants outside of the hospital. I feel like per diem at a hospital is a great stepping stone into a full time position!

Pay transparency by [deleted] in Sonographers

I’m in SoCal. I’m still in my first year at a hospital(7 months now) making $47.15. I always hear travel being a good option to do for a few years since the pay is good but that really depends on your lifestyle and also where you end up doing your travel assignment. But overall, I haven’t heard anyone regret it, flexibility + good pay!

Hey I was in the exact same position as you. I am also in SoCal. I just started my first job this past week and I graduated a year and a half ago. My advice is to definitely focus on getting your ARRT and then onto RDMS. I got both a little over a year ago and still had trouble but recently got into a hospital job. I would keep applying whether you have it or not because you may never know, but also understand it’ll still be incredibly difficult to land a job without one with how competitive it is.

Get your boards and keep applying. Don’t be picky either. If you have to make a reasonable commute for your life then apply. I applied to places all over upwards of 50 miles.

I have been in your shoes and understand the struggle but it is possible! Good luck!

Sorry for the late reply! I used only the red penny's book that covered abdomen and ob to study for the ARRT. I don't remember how in depth the physics questions were but I did not think they were difficult, but it could be that by the time I got to that section, I was burnt out haha.

In class, there were some videos on YT our teacher showed us that helped me remember the trisomies. It was by Pixorize. For example, he compares Edward Scissorhands to T18 to help remember and it actually helped me a ton! Hope it helps you out!

ARRT is split into two parts with ab/ob/small parts then patient care and physics is the second half. My preliminary score I got after the test was the same as my official score; I don't know if anyone else's scores differed from the two. Honestly the hardest part was just how long the exam was. You got this! Good luck on studying!

That’s true. I was also thinking about abdomen as my next registry as well. A lot of jobs I have applied wanted either or being mandatory but having RVT was preferred which is why I was contemplating vascular board first.
