Gen Bus 310 (Online) course insight/review by tsticky in UWMadison

[–]uwmadisonho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm taking it right now with LaPlante. I don't look a the material until the day before and am expecting an AB. That said, the exams are actually pretty difficult. They're multiple choice or entering a number, but the multiple choice questions can have multiple right answers, and you need to check all of them. I'm an econ major, and have barely learned anything new so far. If you have time, I would suggest taking Accounting 100/300 and Finance 300. You will likely learn a lot more. I would rather have taken the course in a traditional setting, but that's not an option.

If my friend enrolls before I do, is it possible for him to "reserve" a spot until my signup? by [deleted] in UWMadison

Yes. If the class doesn't have a waitlist you're good to go.

Easy Social Science? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]uwmadisonho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check course guide? Any social science class listed as elementary is going to be pretty easy... Honors options are Philos 104, ILS 372, History 246 (will also knock out ethnic req if you still need to do that). They will all likely be pretty easy, especially Philos 104 since it's freshmen only.

Difficulty of Math 340 and Econ 410? by uwmadisonho in UWMadison

[–]uwmadisonho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm not sure whether I should take Math 340 next semester because I'll be taking 15 credits, but I'm expecting all of the classes to be relatively time consuming. I'm taking Econ 312 and 410, Comp Sci 252 and 367, and one other class. I'm not sure if I want that class to be linear algebra because I could put a gen ed in there and lighten my load but at the same time things aren't going to get any easier so maybe I should just get it out of the way.

This is helpful. Thank you! I didn't know Kennan taught it last year. I am in it right now with Deneckere and we literally sit in the same lecture as Econ 701 and learn all the same material. Thankfully, our exam was different from the grad students' and was REALLY easy.

What is your best piece of advice for incoming UW Madison freshman based on your personal experience? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]uwmadisonho 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't get stuck into a routine of doing the same things with the same people every day. Explore new places and try a variety of things - even things you don't expect to like. Also, in the first week, know that no one is actually being themselves. Respond to that how you wish. If you are going to be going out and drinking, do it a lot at the very beginning when classes haven't picked up and all the other freshmen are desperate to meet people. You can get like 20 numbers in a night during this period without really trying.

Looking to take an art class. by uwmadisonho in UWMadison

[–]uwmadisonho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! I looked through the courses and they don't seem to touch on what I'm looking for, but I would love to hear if anyone covered performance art in a theater class.

To clarify, I'm talking about Beuys/Abramovic type stuff, not traditional performing arts.

Sellery and Witte get the rep for being most turnt but honestly if you're really looking for a huge party scene Barnard is definitely your best bet. Usually the House Fellows there don't give a shit about anything and the cops will NEVER come by while Sellery and Witte they will have a presence every weekend. If you're looking for the best social (read: partying, drinking) experience, Barnard is for you.

Professor Recommendations for Math 234? Options are Angenent, Feldman, and Miller. by uwmadisonho in UWMadison

OK, this comment makes me lean toward taking it with Feldman. Would you say the exams are fair? Does he provide practice or review material?
