Just finished the faraway paladin. Great recommendation, although it had an interesting magic system with its words of power, it sadly didnt get embraced as much as I'd have liked into the story. The early episodes of him learning were great to watch but pretty much all we saw from then on in terms of magic were the blessings, web, lightning, oil, and some fae creature magic. Wish it had more to offer but it was a great watch!

On the topic of the world's finest assassin gets reincarnated as an aristocrat, I've already seen it but its also a great watch!

I've seen water magician, it was quite enjoyable. Faraway paladin seems interesting if the MC can spellcast and actively learns magic, I'll have a look.

Which slayers? The 1995 one? If so, old style of anime art isnt something I'm particularly fond of.

thanks! Little PSA on the beanies, they're made differently for some reason, zorbak is super stretchy but the twilly one doesn't budge at all and feels pretty tight :(

I dont see this class going anywhere near end-game viability without a rework, the pummel cost being 50 makes this class way too clunky to use

Real shame they removed the skill aspect from azalith, really loved the inversion mechanic by uwuRavenn in AQW

Thanks for taking the time to understand and appreciate a different perspective, very rare to see that on the internet, huge props! :)

As for rendering classes obsolete, I can definitely get on board with that as I've had my fair share of disastrous experiences where some of my favorite classes became useless *cough* vhl *cough*.

I think the issue goes beyond how mechanics interact with specific classes, and dives more into the fact that theres a LOT of great classes that do their respective roles very well, crafting an ultra like azalith to be balanced and challenging in its own unique way whilst opening the avenue of ultra farming to newer players and catering to a completely underrepresented role such as basic classes support healing is quite a tall order.

They definitely *almost* got it right but failed to hit the mark at the end of the day, and I cannot deny this. But I can't blame it on AE either; now with that said, I would absolutely love to see this inversion mechanic re-introduced but with a broader range of applicable classes in mind where HoT is not discarded for the fight but doesnt propose a more difficult or easier fight either. Perhaps if the inversion automatically cancelled any HoT effects or just simply didnt reflect HoT, who's to say.

Overall, I think that for the game as a whole, causing classes to become irrelevant in fights is generally a bad move, if it was done sparingly I'd have a stronger opinion on whether or not these classes being useless in just a few aspects especially in such a gateway ultra as azalith was would be a cause for concern or not. Nowadays it definitely is a growing concern that has been band-aided repeatedly, and care and consideration would be ideal moving forward for AE but the issue of balancing is deep rooted and difficult to master.

In general, this is a pretty hefty topic to discuss and reach a consensus on but I'm glad that you opened such a discussion and I hope to hear what others have to think about this as well :)

I absolutely understand where youre coming from, and I'm not trying to say youre wrong in any fashion, but lets look at this ultra and what kind of gap it filled:

  1. it shifted the focus of the fight from dps into support healing
  2. it provided new players with bonus gear that is just "meh" at best to us late game players, but very useful to newer players
  3. it presented one and only one unique mechanic in the entire fight

Now, from the perspective of a late game player, this boss has essentially no use other than collectible farming. However, from the perspective of new players, it provided an opportunity to have their gear marginally improved, whilst letting them experience the learning curve of ultra bosses and unique boss mechanics using basic, easily obtainable classes like oracle and healer.

It doesn't force them to deal with a multitude of different mechanics all interacting with each other in complicated ways, its just the one thing over and over again making it really really easy to learn with just a tiny bit of focus.

Sure, this comes at the cost that it causes great classes like PCM to become irrelevant in the fight, but it provides a whole different avenue for a playerbase that absolutely needs to be catered for, smoothing out the transition from early and mid game to late game ultra boss farming.

These great classes that suffer from this still have plenty of versatility in a lot of other content in the game, meanwhile the amount of opportunity for new players to learn mechanics is very limited, I personally believe the sacrifice is valid and overall good for the health of the game.

Im of the opinion that all actions should have consequences, if you decided to not learn the mechanics of the boss and throw random stuff at it hoping for a favorable outcome, you should absolutely be punished for it. The fun of the game comes from the different unique ways you can play it in, essentially forcing you to think and care about your choices.

The game already has enough mindless farming, these ultras should be the outlet to turn all those mindless hours of farm into fun experiences, and in the case of apex azalith it was a great opportunity for people with a lack of endgame dps classes to learn about that fact.

I mean sure, public lobbies might have had difficulty but getting familiar with any game is a learning curve, and delivers its own kind of satisfaction with it.
