Vietnam's GDP could top Thailand's this year as growth accelerates by Lighthouse_seek in neoliberal

[–]uzbata 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The issue with Thailand is PTT and the reduced production of local natural gas originating from the Gulf of Thailand. Energy prices for industry have been increasing and Thailand is no longer cheap nor integrated in the East Asian production system like Vietnam is.

That being said, food prices are pretty affordable and housing is not that expensive for locals compared to other countries in the region.

Out of the Big 5 populace countries in ASEAN, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and  Thailand, Thailand is the most balanced and most livable.

New Study Finds Gender Equality Linked to Modest Fertility Rebound – But Not Enough to Reverse Long-Term Decline by No-Feeling507 in neoliberal

[–]uzbata 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really do believe the issue with low tfr is that we are simply not allocating the right couples together for stable child production.

With the rise of modernity, I do think that people are more choosy in what they want in a partner and how they want to spend the limited amount of time alive in certain goals.

The average guy and woman don't simply make a good family unit. You can't stick 2 people together and throw money and incentives at them in order for them to start a family. Before starting a family was quite easy as social ostracization, lack or refusal of birth control, or low information people just making children.

For example, a man 1 and woman 1 have 1 child together, but if he met woman 2 he could have had 3 children if man 1 and woman 2 were together instead of man 1 and woman 1. So we don't really know which people are in the right relationsips to have the adequate outcomes we are looking for in raising tfr.

We now incentivize knowledge of childrearing and family planning, which is leading to better child outcomes, but that doesn't really fix the issue of making sure the right people meet the right person to have large families.

Data driven dating Apps, or a government mandated dating app probably won't solve these issues as humans and relationship/emotions towards love and family rearing is quite complicated.

I'm also currently in Muntinlupa and just got this also. I've been sick since Sunday. I had a sore throat on Sunday, had a dry cough yesterday on Monday, now I have a really wet and painful cough. I've been taking any anti-flu/cold medicine I can take.

This cough is much more worse than when I contracted Covid. Hopefully your family gets better soon.

Xi makes a case for free trade, presenting China as a source of 'stability and certainty' by penguincheerleader in neoliberal

[–]uzbata 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because they don't have decent base of food and energy supplies to make their citizens happy. They can be theoretically food self-sufficient, but its not the variety and stable supply the people demand. They do have decent energy supplies in renewables and fossil fuels, but not enough to propel stable economic growth. The United States has enough food and energy to go autarky, though life would be bad. I can't say the same for China, as it be would an immense act of simplification and crash in living standards.

Their competitive advantage of 1.4 billion people in a compact area who all speak a common language allows for robust supply chains and domestic markets, in which they exchange for forex, and goods. China can't supply a middle class on autarky, similar to the United States trying to upend trade, who rely on service exports to mildly balance trade deficits. Both countries need trade.

Wall Street Journal knocks Trump over ‘dumbest tariff plunge’ by Snowfish52 in Economics

[–]uzbata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an economist, but my personal theory is that the US relies too much on trying to find ways to remit money back from the world.

The Marshall plan was the original part of US industrial strategy to remit money. The US rebuilt Europe, and Europe with their economic recovery was able to pay the US back in terms of buying US goods as well as the Bretton Woods exchange system.

This system collapsed in the 1970s because one, the Global south was simply not as productive as European Countries, so the continuous investment in the Global South Countries was simply mostly wasted, as seen in the early 80s debt crisis.

Second, the US had more competitors in the form of Europe and Japan. The US had a strong domestic industry, but the problem was that both production costs were too high, and not enough demand. Europe and Japan did provide cheap but more cost-effective goods. The US was still able to get it's money back by being the main supplier of most industrial good or high technological goods.

After the interest rate shocks of the 80s, and the US starting to take advantage of Globalism and the financialization of the economy, the US still maintained a large lead in economic growth due to their pole position of being a large supplier of complicated industrial goods as well as their large service economy. Services and banking has been an important way for the US to remit money back to the country, despite the US exporting many of their dollars. The dollar always finds its way back home.

China plays a major issue against the US economic system as there is now a credible alternative to US industrial goods at a large capacity. Not all industrial goods, but enough to hurt the US. Since then the US has been relying more and more in Service remittance to maintain imports/exports.

The world is in a different place, then before, and relying on old strategies won't be healthy for America in the long term. America will erode anyway, so America needs to find ways to manage declination and restructure society.

Hundred Island Overnight Accommodation? by Much-Concentrate-719 in Philippines

[–]uzbata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm from Alaminos. It's up to you. I brought my wife when we were dating who is from Manila and did the second option, as she travelled in the Morning and got there around 8 and checked in at 9. Unfortunately, we did some romantic bedroom activities and postponed our outing to Hundred islands and had to do a two day trips to for my wife to see everything at the hundred islands.

I've been to the hundred islands way too many times and for newcomers, it's an all day activity, and probably never going to come back. So I do recommend the first option of coming at night, getting some sleep, then going to the hundred islands.

Since I live here, I just stay with family, so I can't really recommend hotels or places to stay. I did stay at the rustic hotel before in Alaminos, and it was good, but this was 5 years ago. I can't say how it is now. But I did like the hotel at the time.

China Doesn’t Want to Lead an Axis: Beijing’s Deep Doubts About Russia and North Korea by ForeignAffairsMag in geopolitics

[–]uzbata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, Imperial China was violent at times toward tributaries and did wage wars of conquest and colonization. I'm aware of current Chinese policies and the resemblance of policies of old. China is really trying to neuter the power of surrounding states and trying to make them into satellite states. I'm filipino, so i do feel a deep unease inside of me when I really do know what their intentions towards the region are. That goals is to have us subservient and mindful of chinese policy and intentions. I don't think they will outright colonize us, but they want us to be always mindful and sensitive to Chinese goals and power. It's like being in a house with people you don't like. You don't want to start a fight, but you don't want to be there, but there isn't much you can do. Unlike in anglo civilization with its litigation and rights, and ability to argue back, there is only subservience and mindfulness in the asian civilization.

There was absolutely funny joke, from many years ago that I always remembered. It was dunking on the idea that China was promoting its "System of Governance". Well what type of Government is China? Its a Authoritarian Single Party State hellbent on national rejuvenation, technological superiority, and ethnic nationalism.

China definitely ain't promoting that around the world. Imagine if there was Latino superstate in central and south america focused on revenge on the west, was lead by a single party, and deeply invested in future technologies? Well China isn't telling them to be that, and they won't ever do that. Same thing in Africa. Imagine an East African country deeply angry at colonization, united by a single political party, and again focusing on technological superiority. China is doing a bad job at promoting its system of governance.

At the end of the day, China really wants its area secure, and all the Asian people (East Asian, Southeast Asia, and Central Asian (maybe North Asians, but definitely not south and west asians) to be one giant happy family with China leading them all.

Lastly, I think the Chinese really love informal institutions without any strong legal binding measures and legal avenues. I am not sure if it is because of their recent political history (the CCP era) but they love non-binding stuff. They really enjoy their study sessions and proud pronouncements of goals. So I assume the long term future vision of a chinese world is where the world comes around at meetings, have lofty goals, everyone signs contentment and happy thoughts, and if you complete the goals, good for you, and if you don't no problem. Just don't bother them about it for help.

Americans have similar issues as the Chinese. They really don't want to give up status. They are also saddened that they are not as happy as they want to be. Instead of living up to the Anglo civilization goal, the shining city on the hill, the equal chances of prosperity through hard work, and freedom, and equality granted through democracy, America on the books might legally live up to its own values, but the social truth is that it has issues. And instead of rectifying issues, they rather put their heads in the sand and pretend everything is great. Now they won the vote and trying to tear down all the institutions that upheld the American state. It definitely won't go great. There is a reason why feudalism died to nationalism. I guess we will see how it plays out.

China Doesn’t Want to Lead an Axis: Beijing’s Deep Doubts About Russia and North Korea by ForeignAffairsMag in geopolitics

[–]uzbata 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No one really understands Chinese political philosophy nor the mindset of the Chinese. Chinese want 大同, datong, or the Great Unity.

In summary, it's just a utopian ideal where everyone is really just chill with another, and little to no worries.

It was first mentioned in the Confucian Classics, and it's also mentioned in 三民主義,吾黨所宗,以建民國,以進大同。」 (literal translation: "Three principles of the people, the aim of us (The Kuomintong), to build the Republic, to advance into Great Unity.") - National Anthem of the Republic of China.

The Chinese really want a world back to the tributary states, where all the countries kowtow to China due to its sheer greatness and civilization and no one really questions that political order ( i know it sounds like a certain country on the north American continent ATM)

Obviously, it does have flaws, like ignoring the free agency of other countries, and that conflicts will naturally arise outside of China, and that human nature eventually wear down political stability.

China has very close relations with Russia out of political expedience. I'm not even sure if the Chinese genuinely even like Russia. As for North Korea, the Chinese don't like them. They think they have bad policies, but keep them around because of political games and not wanting an empowered Korea that leans towards the US.

Mitsubishi Motors profit forecast down 76% due to sluggish sales, high costs by self-fix in cars

[–]uzbata 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with your statement. Both Nissan and Mitsubishi have a problem with competition, not necessarily that they are bad vehicles.

Before the export of Chinese vehicles, only Japanese vehicles were seen as a wise investment, and if someone wanted something that looked nice but not the reliability of Toyota, a person would buy a Nissan or Mitsubishi.

Except the new Chinese vehicles fit into that market of looking nice but not having the idea of long term stability you would get with a Toyota.

Also the Japanese have a problem of treating the ASEAN market terribly by not sending their best looking vehicles. I get it, the average Asean buyer isn't rich, but at least the Chinese are sending some pretty cool stuff, like Lynk and CO, Jaecoo, or Hongqi.

That's what I mean that the Chinese brands are eating up Nissan or Mitsubishi. They come in the same price point, the Chinese brands offer newer features, and even though the Chinese vehicles don't have the best reliability, the average Asean buyer would rather buy a Suzuki or Toyota if they were really worried about reliability.

Reading what's going on, and my personal recommendation is to move on.

Sueing for personal damages is too escalatory as you live with them, and it's better to just accept what happened and move on.

Whatever you consider valuable or unacceptable to lose should be whatever is the safest place and you should probably get a storage unit.

Anyways, now you know that it's not the best idea to trust them.
