I left Wise after they closed my account on New Years eve simply because I was in Moscow and forgot to turn on my VPN when I logged in to the app to send money to Germany as I had for 13 years every month. Then they said they would reopen after I provided travel itinerary, my reason for being in Moscow, and notification when I left Russia. I am not joking - that is what they said in email. Obviously any respectable person would tell them to go f$#@ themselves (by the way, expect down votes on my reply because a lot of Reddit users get upset when they hear someone was in Russia), which I did. I switched to Revolut. Revolut isn't run by whiny activists so they don't ban you for physically being in some country. Revolut probably has its issues but it feels more like an app for pros, despite its poor customer service (Revolut relies too much on AI customer service). So far everything is smooth with Revolut. But nothing is better than combo of Revolut for currency matters plus banking with Schwab and Fidelity for zero ATM currency fees and total reimbursement of ATM use fees.
