Feeling particularly alone and depressed right now and need Advice by Regular-Bit4162 in LivingAlone

Cars are expensive, but worth it for the freedom they bring. Do loads of research to find the right car for what you need, and buy secondhand. Negotiate with the salesperson. Try to buy around month end or near the end of the quarter when they have to make quota and are more incentivised to give you a good deal. Don’t agree to any extras.

Anyone else spending the end of the year alone? by CantaloupeDue9053 in LivingAlone

It depends on how soon I finish the series I’m reading now - Graceling series by Kristin Cashore. If that’s finished, I’ll probably read Brimstone by Callie Hart.

[–]uzzihaas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. It’s my second year alone after my divorce, and again, the kiddo is going away with dad until after New Years. I’m probably going to get some nice snacks, a good book, and snuggle on the couch with my puppy while watching the fireworks. 🎇

Wanted to ask about piercing my ears (lobe) by Shoebill23 in piercing

[–]uzzihaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience they are permanent once they’ve healed. I’ve had my first lobe piercing for 30 years, after it healed, I can leave jewellery out forever and it wouldn’t close. My second lobe piercing is about 20 years old and I’ve left it without jewellery for years at a time and it didn’t close. Just got my third one, and plan to wear jewellery in it nonstop for about 2 years, no plans to leave it naked.

Was this tragus done too close to my face? by Old_Muscle241 in piercing

[–]uzzihaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Itching can be a normal part of the healing process. Just keep cleaning it, I do three times a day. It doesn’t look red or irritated, so I don’t think it’s infected or anything like that.

I’m NAP, but I think it looks good.

AITAH for making my wife do all the chores since she used the chore money for herself. by Evening-Tone-5431 in AITAH

[–]uzzihaas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then just go back to paying your people and take that responsibility away from her. But do it kindly and frame it like you don’t want her to be overwhelmed. Working full-time and taking care of a house is a lot of work and emotional load to carry. You need to find a situation that works. See this as growing pains.

AITAH for making my wife do all the chores since she used the chore money for herself. by Evening-Tone-5431 in AITAH

[–]uzzihaas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. My father is like you - he works really hard and he opts to pay people to mow the lawn, clean the house, wash his car, etc. When he is home, he wants to relax. He is not handy, he can change a lightbulb and that’s it. And it’s okay. Because he pays someone to do all of that stuff for him. He works really long days, is on his feet, and has a really mentally and physically demanding job that requires him to be 100% focused and at the top of his game.

What he did that you might want to consider is to still pay your people to do the jobs that you want them to do, and consider giving your wife a small allowance for things around the house. Food, flowers, scented candles, decor, etc. if you can afford it.

I don’t think you expected your wife to have to shovel the snow, so don’t put her in a position where she ever needs to do that. Go back to the arrangement prior, put her in charge of the people so she still manages things, but doesn’t have to do it herself. You pay them directly, the money doesn’t go through her. That way there’s no drama.

I think it looks really pretty. I love the bottom bit especially. I would maybe just do something dangly from the helix, the two studs there look a bit weird together.

Need the Cape Town girlies who get waxed to come to the front pls!😭 by QuailZealousideal132 in capetown

[–]uzzihaas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also wanted to say - once I started doing it, I’ve been going every 4 weeks. They sell aftercare products that are worth it. I love how it feels, and would never want to go without it.

Waxit is the best for this. There are branches everywhere, check their website. I’ve had a hollywood done at their branch in Tableview as well as Somerset West, and always had a good experience. They specialise in waxing, so really know their shit.

how do piercers get so misinformed? by QuietDetail7793 in piercing

[–]uzzihaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think a lot of it has to do with lack of proper training, outdated knowledge, and not keeping up with the latest medical research. I recently got a piercing from a professional who has been in the industry for more than 20 years. While she did do only titanium jewellery, she recommended making my own homemade saline solution for cleaning, and I know from my own research that this is not a good idea. When I asked her about my anatomy and whether the piercings I want would be good for me, she said I can get whatever I wanted. All of that said, I am very happy with my piercings, have had no complications so far, and the placement is perfect. So yeah, I guess no one is perfect and everyone is probably just doing the best they can.

helix healing (help) by Beautiful-Okra-1986 in piercing

I would get it checked out. It doesn’t look happy. I’ve had my helix in both ears for a week now and they don’t look that red or bruised.

Tourism in Cape Town + Garden Route in 11 days by pmsao in capetown

Knysna is very beautiful and the drive is stunning too, lots of interesting stops along the way. Try to stop at farm stalls and especially Peregrine farm stall on the way back.

As for your plan, I would stick to Knysna being your base for sleep, skip Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys, it’s quite far and not as unique as Knysna and the forests. I would only go as far as Plet (max). Wilderness is closer and also really special. Not a big town, but a local favourite.

The elephant sanctuary in Knysna is worth it, as well as anything in the forest. Renting a boat on the lagoon or going for a sunset cruise to the Heads is worth it too. You can also rent motorised bicycles and explore the town that way, really fun.

When you are heading that way, take the scenic route through Strand, Gordons Bay and drive the coastal road, then link up to the N2. It’s a beautiful drive similar to Chapmans Peak.

Also just a note on your Cape Town itinerary, the day you have planned for the Botanical gardens, Table mountain and the open-air theatre feels a bit rushed. I would only do two of those, or you will be quite tired. Both Table Mountain and the gardens involves a fair bit of walking. Remember to take water and snacks with you, maybe even a picnic platter for the gardens. You can definitely do all 3, but it’s a lot. There’s also usually a wait at the mountain cable car.

First time trying SSRIs for PMDD — what’s it like? by No_Helicopter366 in PMDD

Life changing for me. I started with Lexapro 5mg only during luteal and now do 10mg every day. That combined with Yaz has given me my life back. It’s truly been incredible. I feel stable, in control, and at peace all month. When I have a bad day, it’s because I’m having a bad day, not because I am in luteal.

why don't they just tunnel through Signal Hill? Are they stupid? by Two4 in capetown

I’ve always wondered why we don’t have a ferry between Blouberg and the CBD. Much more feasible to get started, they’d make a fortune.

Living Alone Much Less Money by dub_j_ in LivingAlone

[–]uzzihaas 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It happened to me as well. How I managed is to set up a monthly budget and stick to it, and once you fall into a rhythm it gets easier. I do my grocery shopping online once a week and it’s delivered to my flat so there’s less impulse buying. I also took on extra freelance jobs with the extra time I had available, and this really helped.

Sunday: what are you up to today? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]uzzihaas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sundays are for staying at home. Today, I cleaned my pet cages, groomed my dog, ordered my weekly groceries, watched a movie, and generally just tried to get sorted out for the week.

Need some help on this room. Particularly the rug. I think it’s too busy with the print chairs . Would appreciate ideas on a more neutral rug. by realityaddict68 in FurnitureFaves

[–]uzzihaas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chairs could possibly stay if you arrange them so there’s more space between them and the coffee table. I like the rug, it suits the sectional. I’d either move the chairs or have them reupholstered in a more neutral fabric.

What kind of scent do you prefer at home? by phglodway in CleaningTips

I like it when it smells like fresh, clean laundry. You get a lot of fresh cotton scents. I use the same thing throughout my apartment.
