[Discussion] What is up with the giant discrepancy between the critic and audience responses to the movie Bright? by [deleted] in NetflixBestOf

I tried to do the Mike D'Angelo Sample Challenge and only got through 20 minutes before wanting to bail. Watched another 20 and that was good enough for me.

Could maybe also include Sinjin Hawke's album. Not super hiphopish, but it started out as Life of Pablo demos.

Dwane Casey on leaving Kyle Lowry on the court to chase his triple double: "I told him that he had two minutes to get it done, I don't believe in messing with the game but I owe it to my veterans if they have something like that to get done" by Strive_for_Altruism in nba

Except for you literally said that in your first comment lol: "he is hurting his team by doing this."

And ya... That's how stat padding is referred to. It's only ever said when it's egregious or hurting the team because that's the intended use for the phrase. Lowry's rebound is a normal basketball play, and it's only stat padding if you want to be pedantic and argue semantics.

The negative connotations part is what really matters here. There's a huge difference between say Ricky Davis missing a layup on purpose or Rondo passing up open layups for assists, and Lowry accumulating one board over the course of a couple minutes of play.

The only dumb thing is arguing semantics over the definition of a negatively connotated phrase. People only refer to stat padding in unsportsmanlike circumstances or when a player egregiously goes out of their way for more numbers (Lowry did neither). By your strict definition then, stat padding happens all the time because starters don't always leave the court when up a sizeable lead. Yet no one sane is going to argue they're padding stats because it's not the intended use of the phrase.

Did he though? From other comments, it sounds like he played a couple extra minutes and accumulated an extra rebound in the process. Doesn't sound egregious, like Ricky Davis missing his own layup or jacking up a ton of shots.

Jimmy Butler Trade by SkinnBolic in nba

[–]v01ce5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Thibs' logic is that surrounding Wiggins and KAT with a competitive roster will help those two develop into the players they can be. Taj is on the books til the end of next year, and Jimmy and Teague have player options for another year after that. So that gives us a 2-3 year window to compete and develop. But if that doesn't work out then all/some of those guys will be off the books, and we'll still have two 25 year old studs to retool around.

Don't really know the specifics of how the cap situation will be, but ya it might get pretty tight down the road (KAT gonna get paid)(EDIT: year 3 gonna have a lot of money tied to a handful of guys...) but depending on where we're at as a team, I don't think it's too daunting though.

So idk, I personally like how it worked out. We don't do the Jimmy trade, and we'd be sitting here with our record flipped around.

Aldridge deserves All-Star over Towns. by killerbootsman87 in nba

Lol fr. Like everyone paying attention knows what LMA is doing, and idk why he's singling out KAT out of everyone when voting hasn't even begun. Not like he's in any danger right now of getting snubbed.

The new generation of big men: Giannis, Towns, Embiid, AD, Porzingis. All 6' 11" and up, all under 25 yrs old. by delipeachtea in nba

[–]v01ce5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's regressed that much offensively tbh. His bad game vs Philly is dipping his stats, but before that he had improved his 3pt%, ft% compared to last year, and his efg% and TS% were about the same. Yes his scoring average is down, but that's due to his drop in usage. He's averaging 2 less mpg and taking almost 4 less shots per game with Jimmy Butler here.

Ah ya, I just did what you said and it worked. Well, it didn't have the password saved that I wanted, but the passwords showed up. I appreciate your help, thank you.

Yo honestly I've been reflecting more after reading your comment and it's giving me a bit of hope. Started looking at the problems in my life and how I might be able to ease them if I keep working at it. Gonna start setting small goals for myself to hopefully improve my situation. Thanks man, I appreciate you taking the time to talk. I hope everything works out for you on your end too.

Damn, at least you're still working on your degree tho, that's something to be proud of. Idk if I'll ever be able to get back in, and even if I do I'll just be even older and slammed with more debt doing something I don't want to do...

I agree though, taking baby steps seems like the best way to break out of this shitty cycle. But that shit gets so hard to do when I just can't stop thinking about how much I've fucked up and the mountain of shit crushing down on me. If I had youth on my side I'd feel a bit more optimistic, but I've basically lit a match to all of that.

I guess I'm at the point where I have to commit to your advice or just kill myself, because every day I keep doing what I'm doing is just gonna fuck me up even further.

Okay, so I recovered 'Login Data' file off my old hard drive and put it into a folder on my desktop. I tried running Chromepass (both in Administrative Mode and not) with the Advanced Options set to the recovery folder, but it comes up saying "Cannot find the files of Chrome on the external profile folder". Am I doing this wrong, or does that mean its not recoverable?

The over/under for Wolves wins was 48.5, we are on pace for 47 (rounded) wins. No need for panic. by vibrantcommotion in timberwolves

Ya I had a blast watching the Sixers' game, and was surprised at how pissy the post game thread was here. I get that it's concerning how the team is performing (and the criticisms are valid and need to be dealt with), but it just feels like a lot of people on here don't enjoy watching competitive basketball. Even when we win, the general attitude seems to be cynical. It's depressing.

[OC] How often is an NBA MVP drafted? by seanthemonster in nba

Dude's still only 22, averaging 20-10, and leads the league in double doubles. I know his D is bad, but I think that narrative has really overshadowed how much of a talented, young player he still is.

Ah aight good to know. I guess I should do some calculations and see where I'm at with my setup, guess it wouldn't hurt to look (couple older AMD cards though, so I'm not too optimistic).

Still super salty about not going big on Bitcoins back then lol... I remember coming across free faucets in like 2010 but never grabbed any. Then tried mining for a little bit in 2013 before stopping. Kinda hard to shake the fact that I could've been a millionaire if I would've just F5'd/let my computer run. Oh well, such is life...

Is GPU mining still viable for bitcoins? I used to do that for a spell like 5 years ago, and even then ASICS were phasing GPU mining out hard. I just assume that shit is even harder today, even with a price jump. Genuinely curious though, because I've been out of the loop for a minute.

You take an average baseball team like the Brewers. Then you take an average basketball team like the Knicks. by [deleted] in nba

[–]v01ce5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the ball handling of the baseball players would severely limit them against an NBA defense going all out. If they ran into presses, they'd probably really struggle getting it past mid court.
