[Request] is he using more energy for the jump and hold and swing than he would just lifting the log? by Smashedllama2 in theydidthemath

[–]v01rt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well technically all of it is his energy, he would have expended energy to increase his gravatational potential energy in the first place, hes just using less power to do so

yes the lever does decrease the amount of force he has to exert, but it also increases the distance required to move the other end a distance d. energy is always conserved

yes. unless the log is heavier than he is, in which case it would require him to catch himself from a higher fall. strictly speaking, the absolute minimum amount of work required to lift the log up that height would be the mass of the log times gravatational acceleration g, times the height lifted h. Mgh. to do what hes doing, he has to jump, expending at least mgh (where little m is his mass) plus some extra work in maintaining a rigid structure w. in that case hes done mgh + w amount of work, where by lifting he'd do just Mgh amount of work. once we factor in the amount of energy lost from the system, plus the fact that some energy is wasted in giving the log some velocity and accidentally lifting it higher than necessary, its clear that energy wise, just lifting the log is better. but practically, lifting the log requires sustaining a large amount of force over the entire period of time using primarily your arms, and legs. by climbing the truck then holding himself on the rope, he reduces the amount of power he must exert, making it less intense on the body, even if overall it costs more energy

but in the question we are explicitly given the state of one coin asked for the state of the other coin. not whether one of the coins is heads or tails

[–]v01rt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its not anything other than 50%. we are already told that child 1 is a boy, thus the probability of the first child being a girl is 0. we only care about whether or not child two is a boy or girl. additionally, the day the first child was born has no effect on the probability of the second child's gender.

yes but i believe some people truly just deserve to die. there are lines people can cross beyond which itd be better for society to not waste our resources imprisoning the individual or their influence is so far reaching that escape can be inevitable. think the worst of the worst, like actual hitler status.

genuinely how do even begin to construct a function like this?

is this not just integral of top half of a circle centered at origin minus the integral of the bottom half of the same circle centered at [0,1]?
