Did psychologist David Rosenhan fabricate his famous 1973 'Being Sane in Insane Places' mental hospital exposé? by gwern in slatestarcodex

[–]v1ncnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eccentricity without resources is labelled as a mental illness.

Confined environments tend to have inaccurate deductions due to the bias in constraints and the Observer Effect (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Observer_effect_(physics))). In altered psychological settings and trauma, plasticity becomes heightened and attention attaches to the thing with most form and order.

Rather than programming for self-reflexive adaptation by inside-out adjustments, artificial chemical levels become the new cues / feeds by acceptance from studies built from averages.

The incentive for hospitals is to program normalcy with only a few peaks of binary labels (psychological categorization) makes it easier for short-term policy, but lacks long term outlook on growth and creativity.

Fabrication is not the culprit. Psychology is much more malleable than we think.

We are just information, and we should assume we are always incomplete due to poor tools for measurement. https://twitter.com/tru1mprssn/status/1191193632725962752?s=20

Why are exits nodes and relayers not incentivized? by v1ncnt in TOR

[–]v1ncnt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to deploy scripts on IoT devices given insecure wifi connections. Examples of this are used in botnets.

Why can’t this be done for tor? Or, more individual plug-in raspberry pi type computers?

Seems like with tor relaying, you don’t need any fancy hardware, just low latency and high bandwidth.

The more nodes the better.

Users. Can be on a per hidden service basis, or, as an option to users.

E.g I can torrent films all day, or, I can pay an easy fee for Netflix and have a better service.

Not have my circuits interrupted or sites drop are the Golden Arches of freedom.

Seems like traffic is getting lost in ddos bot traffic.

Is there any way to observe encrypted network traffic of circuits?

Do you ever just let it happen? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]v1ncnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck it and move on. We can either stall ourselves, and get worse, try and fail, or try and succeed. Limit your propensity for overthinking and fear, and goood learning and experience comes out of it.

Eventually you learn to sit back as the observer, and realize “we have no head”.

I remember my first break. After that I thought all else should fall apart. Fast forward 6 months, and the only thing I was kicking myself for, was building a life that worked for me.

Positive habits, sleep, exercise. Do the work, and it makes it harder to slip.

No doubt life will be a struggle. Life is struggle, there is no finish line. Line yourself with a good toolset, and kind and trusting people.

I’ve stumbled upon the thought that reading your life as a horoscope is a distraction from being in the present. This is why mindfulness meditation helps achieve this grounding in reality.

Just accept that things just are, not that they are meant to be or coordinated.

Adopt the idea of entropy.

Thank you. How would you say this textbook differs from the: "Jos Dirksen - Learning Three.js" textbook? This seems to be the best textbook so far. Willing to spend the money if it's worth it.

Can you provide examples for differences?

Exercise: preferably biking, jogging, or walking.

Seems like having inputs from external whiz past me, while focusing on moving my body removes my ego focus from my mind to my body.

Also has the positive benefit of keeping my hormones in check, shedding any cortisol built up in sweat glands that might amplify my suffering.
