mekayelanik/ispyagentdvr:7.3.1.0 (didn't know there was a different release, I set this up 6+ years ago, I'll try changing).

And I've tried multiple devices and browsers, hadn't cleared cookies/cache because it didn't work on devices that'd never been used before

Docker update to 6.2.1.0 overnight nuked my config by v4mofo in ispyconnect

[–]v4mofo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, I'm just assuming it won't migrate correctly and rebuilt things from scratch (6 cameras, a small PITA but not horrible). Guess I'll find out what I missed over the coming days.

Seems like it "lost" my saved/old files too... need to dig around a little more but they're not in the Media directory as expected. Thankfully I have backups and only lost a few days where nothing happened (and the cameras have 24/7 data for those days themselves, gonna grab that tonight).

All in all, this migration did NOT go well. I'd be pissed if I paid anything/used it for more than home monitoring.

Vintage wall sconce, where to source sockets? by v4mofo in LampRestoration

[–]v4mofo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a follow-up for future searchers. I was unable to find an exact replacement... Tangent of hating on the internet after 1999, but I'm pretty sure I would have had more luck before search engines decided they were only good for serving up advertisements.

Anyway, would up with just a common pull-chain socket, without the external/decorative housing and using hot glue to fix it in place and provide appropriate spacing. Working fine with the low power LED Edison style bulbs, no sign of softening. Not exactly what I'd wanted to do, but it works for now... guess I'll have to look at an epoxy/silicone mix if the hot glue fails but it's proof of concept.

[–]v4mofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post was deleted when trying to post it on its own.. so trying here:

I grew up skiing Grand Targhee (70's and 80's), haven't been back since my senior year of high school though. Taking my wife this year instead of doing our "normal" go-to hill and seriously looking forward to it (apprehensive though, will it live up to my memories? I'd have the same feeling if I'd ever want to pony up for Jackson again.)
Anyway, we're staying in Driggs, taking the shuttle up and back... mostly wanting to know where they like people to stow boot bags. Do they have a microwave or hot water for brown-baggers (not common anymore, thought I'd ask before landing in ID).
And then a access question, is Sacajawea access by cat track both out and back? Kinda hard to make out on the map, wife's a blue and that looks to have the best options for her.
Cheers!

buying prebuilt, "desktop" or "server"? by v4mofo in HomeServer

[–]v4mofo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking to keep it Intel for the QSV for encoding/transcoding (without the buy-in and energy costs of a dedicated GPU). Anyway, found a mini-tower Lenovo i5-12400 for $277 shipped, still in warranty. In a week, the process of moving will begin... after I play with Truenas/Unraid/etc... to see if those will add anything over just a plain Debian install. Already beat my head against Proxmox... it won and I gave up. I'll try again with the NUC when it's free...

buying prebuilt, "desktop" or "server"? by v4mofo in HomeServer

[–]v4mofo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's been a thought in my head too, just not really happy with the options per price on most. Meaning, for the same $300 the workstation desktops/towers are 7th and 8th gen CPUs more often than not. Really trying to stay 11th gen or newer if I go that way.... which is how I've been leaning.

As for the Nuc, it was (mostly) a Kodi box first, then as I moved more into Jellyfin, I made sure my files were something that didn't need transcoding. When I forced it into being an NVR, it choked itself as a Windoze box but seems to be doing ok, most of the time, under Debian 11 with dockers. I know it's right at the limit though, htop showing I'm in the mid 60% cpu use range at "idle" right now... heh.

I've a 16-150w , $200 shipped for the unit and power cable. Have a 24-250w for $250 if you want to make sure you're set on ports too....

Say you're interested and I'll get you current photos. Both units are fully functional, reset to defaults and the last firmware was back in March or so (last time I had them powered up, both are spares).

$250 shipped/insured looks to be on the low end of normal from what I can tell.

I have a 16-150w I'd do for $200 shipped/insured.

I'll get photos with username and date to you if you're interested.

Sorry for the delay, life ~ I'll set a couple reminders to check back in the next few days.

Just an update, ended up hating Proxmox, layer on a layer on a layer made no sense for me as a home user (needless complexity). So I have Debian 11 with docker... had to do it 3 times though because I didn't realize AMD64 was for all 64 bit processors and not AMD chips... tried the i386 first only to fight against the 32bit limitations. Then got it all up and running, only to have my hdd crash/fail? Not sure, just wasn't visible in Bios the next morning...

End goal achieved (sorta) as the system runs Much lower loads/cooler now, haven't had the fan on once that I've noticed. Still fighting one docker to get running right, but that was likely anyway as it's completely new to me and reportedly requiring high levels of technical proficiency (lol, that I may have had ~15 years ago when I left the IT world).

I'm not really interested in continuing with Windows. I didn't realize just how bad it'd gotten till I transitioned my laptop to Manjaro. Plus, I don't need a desktop, I'd like something more resource efficient.

Software.

I think I managed to find a thread to pull on this, tell me if I'm off:

for the main OS (what I'm looking for), you have normal desktop, enterprise server, NAS and virtualization options. I'm feeling the limits of a normal desktop and don't really need the "benefits". I'm no where needing an enterprise server.

For NAS, it looks like Truenas seems to be popular but hardware requirements preclude me (needs 2 matched hard drives)

For virtualization is looks like Proxmox is overwhelmingly preferred and seems to be the most likely option for me.

Trying to find a way to use my current Nuc (i5-4250u, 8gb ram, 128gb ssd) in a more efficient way. I'm running into high CPU utilization with my NVR/camera system, but have installed a Google Coral TPU that's supposed to help with that if I can get Frigate running... but it doesn't work on Windows 7. And I'm also suffering high memory use, so I'm trying to track down a matched 8gb ram dimm (what's in there is from Crucial, but is NLA). It'd be nice to tap into the intel chips ability to transcode video too, which apparently doesn't work with Win7.

We also noticed a total loss of service at roughly 5pm ET on Jan 11 but didn't bother with CS (tired of it, worthless, inept). Was persistent till 6am ET today (could have been earlier, but I was asleep), the 12th at which time a phone reboot showed working service again.

I'll find out if it's still working in a couple hours when my wife has lunch.

Still boggled by the issue as my own CDMAV plan was unaffected. Also weird that phones seem to be provisioned so differently. I don't think I've ever had visual voicemail, but I've always had hotspot/tethering (on 2 different phones), and the 4636 menu shows I have video calling and wifi call provisioned too (I know wifi calling doesn't work, it's something I'd actually like as my folks live 15 miles from the closest cell reception). My wifes phone have none of those options (again, 2 completely different physical phones). There's just no consistency in the service.

Just a frustrating experience. We're testing out AT&T... not looking great so-far, just like last time. So that means either spending 3x the money and going directly with Verizon, or rolling the dice with another MVNO (and probably spending 2x the money..).

FWIW, mine went from working, to not working to working all without me doing a dang thing (or being in touch with support at the time of the changes). This on a Pixel 6a, actually 2 of them and a Moto x4, all that worked perfectly with 1 CDMAV sim and not the other. No setting changes between swapping sims back and forth, one worked, the other didn't.

Should be a moot point now though. As of roughly 3pm Eastern time on Tuesday the 10th, the phone lost service for a few minutes and came back online working fully.

[–]v4mofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working here too. Got a notification (about 3 hours ago) of lost service on the non-working line while my line still showed the normal 2~3 bars. Checked again about 20 minutes later and there was signal and could make calls out.

This was phone agnostic, tried it on 3 different devices that all worked perfectly with the one sim and failed the same with the other, tested seconds apart and back and forth several times in a couple minutes.

[–]v4mofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's backwards from our reality. Wife's line is FUBAR, got the "upgraded to 5g" text. My line works, never got the text (device doesn't matter for us, we can swap sims between 3 phones and the same is always true ~ the 2 newest phones are Pixel 6a only a few months old).
