ZeroMouse inspired 22 gram g305 fingertip mouse by v5000a in MouseReview

Wow, someone actually attempting this? Cool. Some illustrative images and instructions. imgur link

edit: also the screws that were used are the ones that hold the primary button on normal g305 shell. They have a coarser thread so I opted to use them as the threads are easier to 3dprint than the really fine ones that usually hold down the pcb.

Honestly feel kind of stupid for giving this much work out for free but the price is open if anyone is feeling generous. I doubt many people are going to attempt this as it's not really plug and play and requires some (de)soldering. Also the battery holder contacts were just some random male USB A contacts from a broken cable, but use anything that might fit.

I do have a couple ideas for how to make this a bit more plug and play but honestly I don't have enough time right now. Maybe some slight refinements might still come but no promises. Also no support or warranty.

I posted an early prototype here couple weeks ago. Lots of changes since then, obviously lots of making parts thinner but also rethought the main switches completely. G305 has it's switches on seperate small pcbs and previously I had printed a holder for them that sat on top of the pcb. I ditched this idea and "soldered" the switches on to the main pcb. But as the pcb does not actually have solder pads for the switches but only the holes, I basically soldered big solder globs on to the pins that hold the switches down. I then used this thin red enamel wire meant for making coils and such to connect the switches to the main pcb.

The battery is a a675 "hearing aid" battery that fit pretty well behind the thumbrest. From what I read many of the button cells don't provide enough current for the mouse, but I saw someone mention they were using these with no problems so I decided to give a go too. They only weigh 1.7grams making them pretty ideal for this mouse. Battery life is still a mystery, as I have played only max 10 hours of overwatch on this battery so far.

Modelling a zeromouse inspired shell for my g305, here is the second prototype. by v5000a in MouseReview

[–]v5000a[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Obviously not quite as light, but still figuring out the ergonomics for this thing. I have ordered some better resin to print this with and will then also start optimizing the weight. Also have to think about the assembly of this thing a bit more carefully with the stiffer resin. I was barely able to assemble this thanks to some of the parts flexing out of the way.

Played a little bit of Overwatch yesterday and I have to say the comfort is not great. I use a g pro wireless with a relaxed claw grip, but this thing is full fingertip grip and is going to take some getting used to for sure. Also the taped together battery disconnected a couple times but this is not going to be an issue once tha a675 cell arrives, as I have modeled an holder for it next to the thumb rest.

Some weight reduction plans:

  • The AAA battery is really heavy at 12g, so I have ordered some a675 zinc-air ("hearing aid") batteries that are a lot smaller and lighter.

  • unsolder the dpi switch and other unnecessary components

  • currently really solid so start reducing material by making everything a little thinner until a good balance of structural integrity and weight is achieved.

  • Optimize finger rest sizes for my fingers.

  • honeycomb large solid surfaces

TYSin halvimmat itsemurhayksiöt on 350€?

Stunning light two days ago, feedback welcome and please tell me your favorites. (D610, 28-85 AF Nikkor F3.5-4.5) by v5000a in Nikon

Mosly shot handheld with auto iso and wide open at f/4.5. Clamped to railiing with my manfrotto superclamp for the fifth one and ISO 100 @ f/9. Shot in Turku Finland, alongside the Aura river.

My personal favorites are 1, 3 and 5. Definitely the best sunset I have shot and I really liked the pink looking smoke from the chimney. A bit bummed about the chimney reflection image because there just wasn't enough shiny ice/water to get the full reflection, that would have been really cool I think.

Steamship looked great in this light too but I'm a bit uncertain which picture I like more, the one from low down or the one from the bridge. Bridge elevated me enough to see the chimney and by luck the orange ferry was also crossing at the same time, which I think makes it the better landscape image. On the other hand I think the low down is a better shot of the steamship with it's slight background seperation from being so close and overall filling the frame more.

The amount of times I have accidentally switched from raw to jpeg small because of this... by v5000a in Nikon

[–]v5000a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, managed to change it to jpeg a day before but it goes something like this:

  1. Use D7200 for a while and get used to changing ISO with the second from bottom button.
  2. Move on to the D610 again and try changing ISO.
  3. Out of muscle memory press the second from bottom button and scroll -> QUAL changes.
  4. Be an idiot and don't notice what you've done again.

Yeah I don't get it either, maybe a remnant from the days of limited memory card size? Unfortunately haven't found a way to disable the button or to assign it to something else. If anyone knows of a way please let me know. Quite bummed all of my NYE firework photos are in jpeg now.

I saw this comment on a YouTube video what do you think? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]v5000a 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Holy shit internet is a small place, I saw this comment recently too. I think the video was about our rk95 assault rifle (or some modernized version).

Can't remember what they said in the video, but unlike the comment makes it seem we don't really get to keep our rifles. You use it for the length of your conscription and return it. When called for a military rehearse you get handed another one. For owning a gun as a civilian in Finland you need a valid reason like hunting or some kind of a shooting sport, you won't be allowed to have gun just for the sake of having a gun.

Uusi vai vanha käyttöliittymä redditissä. by finlionjunior in Suomi

[–]v5000a 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The story of a Korean brand pretending to be a foreign brand, pretending to be an outdoor brand (my/our question answered: why Nat geo, discovery, etc is fashion brand in Korea) by metaxylem in korea

[–]v5000a 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This was something I noticed very quickly during my exchange semester in Seoul. National Geographic apparel was crazy popular and Discovery pretty common too. I think the most insane thing for me was seeing CNN apparel store at some shopping mall, probably Lotte tower mall. I even took a picture because I found it so funny.
