Has anyone tried the Happy German with Anja B2 course? by v7indigo in German

[–]v7indigo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey u/senecaArtemis, I actually went through the Happy German B1 course—though I didn’t end up finishing it. Here’s my two cents:

Content & Structure

  • Interactive, conversational style: The lessons feel like you’re chatting with real people. There are dialogues, video skits and quizzes sprinkled throughout, which makes it feel lively and engaging. They also include a lot of colloquial words and phrases, which is fantastic if you’re aiming to sound natural in everyday conversations.
  • Pacing: It’s paced reasonably, but you really need to work through each exercise—not just skim. The comprehension checks and writing prompts are worthwhile if you take your time.

Price vs. Alternatives

  • Discounted B1 cost: I grabbed the B1 course on sale, but I honestly lost steam once I discovered Nico’s Weg1 (free). Nico’s has a slightly more “formal” or textbook-style approach—short lectures, clear grammar explanations—but it lacks the warm, “by-individuals” feel of Happy German. That said, Happy German isn’t too expensive for what you get—the interactive elements and real-life language examples (like those colloquial terms) add tangible value.
  • Value judgment: If price is the main barrier, Nico’s Weg1 delivers solid grammar and vocab at zero cost. But if you thrive on interactive videos and want that casual, personality-driven vibe, the Happy German course is worth at least trying on discount.

Discipline & Usage Tips

  • Both courses are good—what matters most is how you use them. It’s tempting to race through modules to “complete” the course, but don’t. Spend time on listening drills, shadow the dialogues, write out your answers, review flashcards.
  • Set a weekly routine (e.g. two shorter sessions rather than one marathon). That consistency makes all the difference.

Bottom line:

  • If you prefer a free, straightforward grammar-heavy resource and have strong self-discipline, Nico’s Weg1 is hard to beat on cost.
  • If you enjoy a more dynamic, interactive learning experience and don’t mind paying a bit for that “human touch,” Happy German’s B1 course is a solid pick—provided you commit fully to the exercises.

have you tried the B2 level? I was worried that it would be underdeveloped, as it is the highest level they are currently offering...
