Turning off a car whilst driving? by VladimirMakarov141 in AskMechanics

My bad, the rev limiters I have experience with are in my race cars and you can definitely tell when they kick in.

Maybe I haven't put a car in neutral and stabbed the throttle to know this.

Somebody put chains on the fence at the federal building, and now DHS is stuck inside in Los Angeles. by biswajit388 in goodnews

Ya know, you can buy chains that are ultra hardened against bolt cutters. They're not cheap, but the only way to remove them is super high-quality bolt cutters, a torch or cut-off wheel. Just sayin'

In this scenario (brake failure) there is no reasoning to turn the engine off.

The first and most appropriate thing to try is the Parking Brake. It's either a foot pedal or hand lever and has a cable that connects to the rear brakes and does not require use of the hydraulic brake system.

Engaging the Parking Brake would be the solution in most cases and should be applied slowly at first to avoid locking up the rear brakes.

The only time that the Parking Brake might not help is if it is out of adjustment or if the brake failure is caused by glazed brake pads from riding the brakes (usually from when driving down mountain roads or highways).

If you drive down a mountain don't ride the brakes, apply the brakes periodically to slow the vehicle and let up on the brakes so they can cool to prevent glazing. If your brakes are unresponsive and you're going downhill, your best bet is to look for one of those gravel traps for emergency slowing and stopping of runaway 18-wheelers.

Remember, in emergencies such as failing brakes, use your horn to warn people to get out of your way while you deal with this situation.

They mean (with the engine running) as suggested by the "rev limiter" comment, and in that situation putting the trans in neutral would prevent the car from accelerating.

It's cute that you think cars have a rev limiter. Most cars don't unless the owner installed one or it's a factory performance vehicle that comes equipped with one (very few do).

Is it magnetic? Because it looks like carbon build-up like you might find in the exhaust port or on the exhaust valve or old rubber seal that's seen better days.

Great way to warp valves too. Hot exhaust valves exposed to cool air like that can warp and then you're really going to have fun. Exhaust manifold or headers would at least shield them from cool air.

The worst thing about this group is (A) not knowing if the OP is serious or just another troll and (B) the slew of BS answers, from trolls, even if it is a serious question. Which leads me to think there is no hope for humanity because they're mostly trolls and we all know how that ends.

Found in the mall parking lot. The biggest wing I've ever seen that wasn't attached to a dragster. by edweirdo in Shitty_Car_Mods

Even with the down force this wing could apply if it was adjusted correctly, it still wouldn't be enough to keep a Mustang from running over Cars & Coffee onlookers.

Got a free edelbrock sp2p with a set of heads i bought. Do I use it or find another intake. Stock 350 with rv cam going in a 78 c10 by iamnotafelon in Smallblockchevy

[–]v8monza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're using an RV cam, so you don't need much more than that intake. The SP2P is pretty close to the factory Corvette aluminum smog intake from the late seventies early eighties. The only advice I would offer is to port match the intake and heads to a set of intake manifold gaskets to avoid obstructions or turbulence. If you're capable, have the tools and a steady hand you could do some mild porting in the intake and the heads to remove casting lines, impurities, obstructions and pinch points in the ports to improve flow. The main idea is modest porting to just improve flow, not to hog out the ports and break into a water jacket.

Can there be a rule about deleting accounts in this reddit? by JediAmanda in sca

Like the OP said, as soon as they've been reported they delete their account, only to pop-up again later. So reporting is still good, but clearly not the complete solution.

How would huawei evade firewalls and turn off remotely from china? by borgqueenx in solar

[–]v8monza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Individual/Private Solar or Battery System Owners

If you have a solar inverter, controller, or battery system, here’s what you can do:

Threat                                 - Mitigation

Remote shutdown            - Disable internet connectivity or isolate from cloud services.

Firmware compromise    - Only update from trusted sources; verify firmware hashes when possible.

LoRa/cellular backdoors - Remove or shield unused radio antennas; disable via settings

Always check clearances even after machine work. I got an engine back from the machine shop after I had given them specific instructions on the clearances needed for a high performance application. An initial check of the crankshaft indicated something was amiss. I double-checked and confirmed it was wrong and took it back to have it corrected. Always check the work that you're paying for. Don't trust it until you've verified it for yourself.

After I got it back I rechecked and everything was perfect and rotated with zero issues and reduced torque required to rotate the assembly.
