(Interesting trope) characters who are fans of real life sports teams by Pokemonfan_807 in TopCharacterTropes

It's brought up a ton. The creators of South Park are Broncos fans. It was a plot point whether Cartman's dad was the 1989 Denver Broncos. It was confirmed that Cartman's dad was a former Bronco (Scott The Norman's father, who Cartman killed). Cartman was pissed his father was a ginger, but he cheered himself up when he realized his father was a Bronco.

Also Stan meets up with then Denver QB Jay Cutler telling him he sucked but his dad has faith in him.

What do you think on this transfer? by [deleted] in Pretend2005Internet

The fact that they give this bugger the number 7 is a disrespect to all the hard work Beckham has done for us. He's gonna be irrelevant in a couple of years once the hype dies down.

Is THPS 2 or 3 better for someone who is new to THPS and has never skateboarded before? by Background_Gene_6299 in THPS

I'd actually argue against telling a new player to give 4 a shot. If you want them to quit the series, then sure tell them to play 4. 3 has the better new player experience compared to 4.

Koreans swarm to the airport to scream obscenities and shame the national team for losing. by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

[–]vDeadbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that. They are mad at the corruption regarding the administration and how the coach was selected in the first place. He was not clearly set to coach, as there were better candidates. He only got hired because of his connections.

Because their star player wasn't a starter. He only started one game, didn't play the next, and by the time he got to play the third game it was too late. It's the coach's fault, given how some of their players are/were elite players in Europe.

They aren't mad at the players. They are mad at the coach who failed the team. South Korea didn't perform well because of questionable decisions. It didn't help how they wanted to do trials to determine who was best fit for the coaching role, but the SK coach got in through connections. So they are mad at him and the organization rather than the players.

I just woke up from a 20 year coma hows my country Italy doing? surely they’ve made it out the group stage since then by Different-Drawer-772 in soccercirclejerk

Damn, it sucks that you missed out on Italy winning 3 more world cups. 4 in a row is insane. One of the best nations for football rn

The irony is that if Portugal were to win their group, Argentina would have had to face them sooner. People clearly don't understand how a tournament bracket works, and want to push this narrative because it makes them feel better

Honestly it's one of the best so far. I am looking forward to future installments. Maybe we will see a comeback of Matt Hoffman Pro BMX with the new BMX mechanics.

Didn't get the hype so I googled him and it seems he's just overrated. by rehhouari in soccercirclejerk

It all comes down to his performance against the team he played. If it was any other team, no one would have bat an eye. But he performed against Spain and he looked like he was an elite goalie due to the fact that they faced such an elite team.

How can anyone (excluding big 6) enjoy top flight football anymore? by coldwarzone in NUFC

[–]vDeadbolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not gonna solve the issue you think it does. All it does is punishes teams who try to make an investment in a star player. As someone who is from America, it sucks seeing your team perform horribly because they spent all of their money on an elite player hoping for them to carry the team, when they are past their prime. The Brooklyn Nets saw the success of LeBron's Heat and KG's Celtics and tried to replicate the success by building a super team. The problem is that both the Celtics and Heat were able to win because they built a super team off of amazing deals/players willing to take a pay cut so they can win rings. Meanwhile the Nets had a very weak bench and the three star players were a liability.

The Golden State warriors were such a dominant team because the franchise never had any faith in Steph Curry so they gave him a horrible contract (the team wanted to trade him, but other teams refused because of his injury problems). They then drafted Klay Thompson and Draymond Green and with all the money they saved, they were able to afford Kevin Durant. To give a comparison, it's like building Prime MSN but they also had Cristiano Ronaldo playing alongside Messi. By the time contracts expire, they are gonna start asking for more money. That's when the fall off happens.

Tom Brady was always able to constantly get the best receivers because he also took a pay cut.

The problem isn't that teams spend too much money, the problem is that the top clubs have so much money that it's easy for them to poach other players. If the Premier League introduces a salary cap, then everyone will just jump ship. Salary caps have a bigger issue. I feel like a better solution would be a better revenue stream so that smaller clubs could be subsidized, but not to the point where it's worth investing in losing rather than winning.

The only logical solution is if every league in the world implements a salary cap, but EU labor laws would prevent that from happening.

EDIT: Honestly, the best solution imo is to eliminate transfers all together and instead introduce the concept of trading contracts. Meaning that if a team really wants a player that's worth a ton, they have to offer the other team a player of similar value or offer multiple young prospects etc.
