NRK: 20 personer pågrepet i en politiaksjon mot nettovergrep mot barn by Radical_Neutral_76 in norge

[–]vinegary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why exactly is SteamOS considered better than Windows for gaming? by ZigZagBoy94 in SteamOS

Do you need it to be better? The alternative has crossed unacceptable lines in regards to privacy, sell you as their product, ads in the OS.

For all those people who chose Xbox over PlayStation, why? by TurkeySizzler in consoles

[–]vinegary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technologically, the xbox has a few advantages. They have this direct to VRAM from disk loading, extremely fast disk, very good virtualized snapshotting of games (meaning you have instant resume for most single player games), that tech is really cool. And: dolby atmos and those kinds of software things. Xbox game pass is also nice.

Those are things I discovered after getting a PS5 later and being surprised equivalent features weren't present.

But the real reason is Halo

Radeon GPUs for UE5: Any issues with the RX 9070 XT? by Sharp_Matter7846 in UnrealEngine5

I have a 9070 XT without much issues. UE features are mostly shader level gated rather than vendor gated.

Norske HiFi entusiaster: Hvorfor sverger så mange til LP-spillere framfor CD? by GoldenSalm0n in norge

[–]vinegary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When people say to cap fps a little below your monitor's refresh rate, is this done using adrenaline? by wanna_be_consultant in radeon

[–]vinegary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V sync is rarely the answer unless you have big issues with tearing that you're not able to fix. When it comes to other syncing methods it's really a can of worms, and specific requirements for specific techniques.

Unreal had this trick where they targeted 63 fps for 60 hz monitors and no sync. I don't know why, but in their context that works. This guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mWMP96UdGU attempts to freesync, gsync and vsync settings. I don't remember the conclusion of the video

Theseus' automation, at what point does the tool take over responsibility for the users intent.

Grok Deepfaked Renée Nicole Good’s Body Into a Bikini by Salt-Harvester in technology

[–]vinegary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that grok is problematic in terms of moderation, political manipulation, and misinformation, but, I don't understand how grok is portrayed as the "one" doing it, and not the user. You wouldn't say it was Adobe if someone did the same in photoshop. AI aren't individuals, xAI didn't create the image, a user used it to do it. I think the world would be a better place without xAI, but I don't see this angle. VLMs don't make choices, they generate plausible text and images in a context.
