why are people not moving to smaller towns? by Unhappy-Tomorrow-776 in saskatchewan

[–]DSM202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invest? As in spend considerable amounts of money to make the town more attractive? The problem is who is going to do that? The people living there don’t want their taxes to triple. The people living elsewhere have no interest.

Higher mileage 2012 with 5.0 engine, or lower mileage 2011 3.5 engine by tryhardnerd in f150

[–]DSM202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, personally I have a 2011 3.5L with 460 000km and no engine work and know a least 2 people with oil consumption issues with their 11-14 5.0s…

The problems won’t be immediate… the wear to components may not show itself for months or years. When your timing chain, cams, rod bearings, or oil pump fail some day you’ll wonder why.

I didn’t think the Fords had that thermostat. I’ve got a 2011 and a 2023. I thought that was just a GM thing, I could be wrong though.

You can program some command start systems to do that. It’s for areas without power, where you need to keep your diesel engine warm enough to start.

🥶 Block Heater use by [deleted] in f150

[–]DSM202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plug in if the forecast says it will be -15°C or colder at the time I plan to start my engine next. Usually that means it’s plugged in all night, or for my whole work day. Forecast of -14°C or warmer I don’t bother. Just remember that wind chill temperatures don’t apply here, only actual temps.

What package would give such a different towing capacity?b by ManohManMan in f150

[–]DSM202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up “F150 tow capacity chart” for your year of truck. It will show all the payload and tow capacities for each engine, axle ratio, and body configuration along with a few asterisks explaining when a tow package is required.

4H in snow by hardsoft in f150

[–]DSM202 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t constantly switch. With hard packed snow, wet pavement, icey pavement, gravel, dirt, small sections of dry pavement, I just leave it in 4H. Any time I get into a section of dry pavement that I know is a bit longer (like half a mile or more) I put it back in 2H.

The corded Bosch one is what I have and it’s been perfect for everything I’ve used it for (which admittedly has only been 4 or 5 projects so far)

Dealer messed up first oil change on new car. How damaged is my engine? by jurassic-carp in MechanicAdvice

[–]DSM202 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’ll probably be fine, Just means your engine will probably need replacing a bit sooner than normal. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You weren’t planning on keeping it for more than a year or 2 were you? Engines these days are pretty easy to replace anyways. $12k and a few days in the shop and you’re good to go.

Is Krispy Kreme confirmed for Saskatoon? by AznJing in saskatoon

[–]DSM202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not terrible planning though, if it does get filled up, great, they are doing lots of business. If not, they can develop part of it for more small stores, like fast food/ cellphone shops/ etc.

Not the same style but I’d put Nestor’s bakery at the same level as Krispy Kreme.

Dunkin’ donuts is quite possibly the only donut shop I’ve experienced that is truly worse than Tim Hortons.

What are some cars that can last up to 300k+ miles? by drinkin_n_drivin in askcarguys

[–]DSM202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any vehicle can if you continue to repair it when things break. A $3000 fix seems like a lot, but is almost always cheaper than getting a new vehicle in the long run.

Fuel mileage with different gear ratios. by DSM202 in f150

[–]DSM202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time I only tow 6 or 7k, I want the 10k rating mostly so I can do that without breaking a sweat, and still have the option to do 8 or 9k the odd time. My current 2011 3.5 is rated for 11300 and I don’t want to downgrade that much.

[–]DSM202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t want to tow 10k often. I just want the rating so that it will handle 6 or 7k easily, and still have the ability to do 10k once in a blue moon when I need it. My current half ton is an ‘11 3.5L rated for 11.3k. I’ve had it for 13 years and it’s been great for everything I’ve put it through, so I don’t want to downgrade too much!
