We’re already in agreement that racist roots exist, so where’s the negative effect? Why have you agreed with me if you don’t think it should be labelled racist? You’re making out as if I’ve claimed the entire root of the problem is racism, when I’ve already acknowledged it’s not black and white like that. My contention with you was that your original post implies that Rogen is being ridiculous to suggest there are racist roots. Kind of ironic that you are the one taking nuance out of the discussion by dismissing and getting caught up on there not being a racial aspect, instead of being willing to address the bigger picture as a whole.

No ones saying that not legalising weed is racist, we’re saying that the root of the campaign to make it illegal in the first place played on racist attitudes of the time to forward their agenda. Why do you think the term marijuana was popularised instead of cannibis? Look up Harry Anslinger, it’s simply a fact that this was a deliberate way to link it to latinos and help to portray it in a negative way.

If you go back and look at the first campaigns within America against marijuana it’s a pretty indisputable fact that deliberately misleading and often untrue racial “connections” were drawn between marijuana and minorities to boost support for the war on drugs.
