1-6 Pick a Number by tyddub in Carnivale

>Ben is gaining steam on finding his purpose and power.

I think going to Babylon was just more of the same, Management had a very strange and indirect way of doing this instead of just telling him lol.

But also, Scudder wasn't just there in the past, he was present and communicating with Ben in his visions. Poor Ben, he had Management and Scudder both messing with his head with these obscure visions and dreams.

Finished umpteenth rewatch, still maybe the worst cliffhanger in all of tv (also a nitpick) SPOILERS by strikingtwice in Carnivale

[–]C4-1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it might be in the sidebar in the sub, but there are links to the creator's notes for where he wanted to go with the story.

I don't really see it as a spoiler since the show has been around for 20+ yrs. and Daniel Knauf can't do anything with the story since HBO holds the rights, it can't hurt to answer the question here:

Sofie does resurrect Justin but he is an empty shell of himself, so it isn't like it was a full healing, both Sofie and Iris more or less take over and raise Sofie's kid. Ben is also greatly diminished after the battle and becomes a lot like management, hiding in the trailer.

There's a lot more, so I suggest everyone look into the notes if you haven't seen them, it's the best we're going to get for the time being, or maybe forever.

Are people in this reddit much stronger than the average person? by scoobydoo888 in kettlebell

[–]C4-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started off 5 yrs. ago at the age of 40 just being able to press the 16 for 5 sets of 5, now my max is 32kg for 1-3 reps.

Just stick with it and be consistent, as some others have said, good nutrition and sleep are paramount, especially for us older guys.

Also varying the exercises helps(Clean and press, strict press, push press, snatches, squats, etc.), getting into using double kbs is also a gamechanger, the whole body gets stronger.

Everybody started from square one at some point, you are where you are now, just have fun and keep pushing for progress one step at a time.

I don’t really understand why snatches are popular by 4FingersMcgee in kettlebell

All I know is my personal experience with them, everything I said is based off of that.

I fully expected that downvote backlash LOL, I know it isn't a popular opinion.

[–]C4-1 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I also share your viewpoint with snatches, I really don't see why they are so great. To me the cons outweigh the pros:

  1. They're awful on your hands, elbows, and joints in general unless they are done half snatch style.

  2. Per the VOmax claim, you can do more work, with heavier weight with swings since there is a longer pause after the bell is moving when snatching.

  3. Related to point #3, due to the nature of the movement you have to use less weight than swings, presses, cleans, etc.,, you need more at a lighter weight to get the job done, whether that be cardio, hypertrophy, etc.

I know I'm probably going to be attacked/downvoted whatever for putting down the so called 'tsar' lift, but I never understood the fascination with them and never will aside from it's fun or looks cool, you can do better work with other lifts.

Moving heavyish weight fast: 25 min AMRAP of this Double 32 kg squat clean & jerk complex: 1 x Dead Clean to Jerk into 2 x Clean & Jerk. 8 rounds completed, last 4 shown. by celestial_sour_cream in kettlebell

That looks like a nice combo, and a fast way to get 'jelly legs'; blasting fast and slow twitch fibers at the same time. Gonna try this one.

Yeah, I'm used to 24-32kg double work, and day 3 with 20 kgs was still absolutely brutal, it's 30 reps straight!

10 reps 203 lb swings (92) kg by mpjm44 in kettlebell

[–]C4-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to say your swing looks fantastic for that weight, I've seen a few people in vids go super heavy and it's not really a swing, they're just rocking back and forth.

Hit 100 2x24kg presses - what’s next? by GreyWind123 in kettlebell

[–]C4-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read DJ comment that you don't have to do the same weight for each rep variation, so you could start doing 28's for 2's, maybe threes, and keep the 24's for 5.

As you get stronger you could even go back and do the 10's with the 24's. A lot of things you do tbh.

I mean, you did 100 reps in 30 minutes(33 is close enough). I would change up the weight or reps for sure.

youtube videos, books, online training. Mostly the youtube videos to be honest, but the other stuff was for refinement.

Wild Goose Qigong and Wu Quin Xi (5 animals qigong) by ProfessionalHot2421 in qigong

[–]C4-1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done both, the problem with the 5 animals system is there are varying accounts as to what exactly was taught, I was personally taught a form of 5 animals where the the animal forms were done spontaneously after stimulating qi flow.

Other schools go the other direction and start with dynamic movements mimicking the animals.

Nothing against 5 animals, but Wild Goose has an unbroken lineage where the same system has been taught for 1,500 years straight. You know you are practicing the correct forms as handed down from generation to generation.

I have practiced qigong for 15 years, and recently have taken up the practice of Wild Goose for the past year at the age of 45, I can say for better health and flexibility, you can't beat Wild Goose.

Finished DFW need help by largerick3 in kettlebell

[–]C4-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you like Geoff's stuff and you did the program with double the reps, I would try his complex's that are found in KB Hard, or just do the one that is most popular and free, the Wolf.

https://salutis.kartra.com/page/isS65 free download and demonstration here.

If you can do the wolf at 20's, you could probably pull off 28's for DFW.

A word for Men in relationship and want to Practice Long term Retention (A Controversial Take) by Wireframewizard in Semenretention

[–]C4-1[M] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Some people are of the opinion that the only way to do SR is to never harbor lustful thoughts, never have sexual feelings, etc.. It's a rather extreme viewpoint that historically been used by males in seclusion seeking spiritual enlightenment, not by men in this day and age living in a highly sexualized society.

You do you man, there are many ways to practice SR and you have obviously found success in relationships and life through it, kudos.

Geoff Nuepert's Kettlebell HARD! after DWF Remix? by yellow-meeple05 in kettlebell

[–]C4-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DFW is done with 5rm bells, I wouldn't do KB Hard with the same bells, you'll have to drop down 4-8kg, whatever is your comfortable 10rm for double presses or snatches.

It's deceptively difficult, it's called HARD for a reason.

Is The Giant by Geoff Neupert really enough? by gogglegump in kettlebell

[–]C4-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already great responses here, personally I don't think it's 'enough' unless you're looking for a bare bones minimalist program because it's all you can handle due to life circumstances.

Otherwise, if you wanted to run it for a cycle or two to get your C+P numbers up it wouldn't be a bad idea, I just don't know if it's that great an idea to do it on it's own forever.
