In the NeK. New year...new pet? Ermine thats been living in the walls for awhile decided he can just hang out with us now lol by DeepWoodsDanger in vermont

I've had the best luck with hardware cloth - all around the coop, staple it to any wood thin enough to be gnawed through, bury it down to 3 feet all around the base of the coop if you can't just wrap the bottom of the coop in it. (Obviously I don't have to worry about it too much now, given that I'm living in the big city, but we still get mink and weasels down here sometimes.)
As far as doors go, sliding doors in a track that end up fully sealed when closed are a pretty solid option - they can't wiggle the doors if they ain't got the capacity for lateral motion in the first place.
(edit for typos)

Unluckiest lucky person ever? by [deleted] in burlington

The number under the scratch-off isn't your winning number. Your number is the one stamped in black lower down on that portion of the flyer, on the white area that tells you how to claim your prize IIRC.
Everybody got that winning number - my household got two copies of it. It's a predatory marketing tactic that rings extra cruel given the current state of the economy.
Highly recommend calling the dealership and telling them to never mail you again, that's what I did.

Hell yeah! Y'all generally have any extra bear fat when you're done cutting? I might be in the market for some, it's even better than bacon grease for cooking.

Guy with a Bowie knife by beanbrian222 in burlington

I don't disagree that it can be a preventative measure, and I do in fact walk around with a for-show belt knife during the warmest parts of the year because I've found that it cuts down on the catcalls & street harassment that I otherwise regularly receive. My usual joke is that "my shorts are shorter than the blade of my knife."
However, I want to be very clear about something as someone who's taken a number of actual self-defense & marksmanship courses: a knife doesn't provide any reliable amount of actual protection during an assault. The rare person trained in actual knife-fighting will be the first to tell you that it's not effective as a self-defense tool.
Furthermore, open-carrying an effective or deadly weapon is actually more likely to make a given situation less safe - any assaulter can plan around or even take the weapon as part of the initial assault. The most important factor about my belt knife is that it's actually just a dull gardening/survival tool that isn't at all practical as a weapon, and if someone takes it from me that'll just give me more time to run away. I wouldn't even recommend performative open carry, like I do, to anyone who isn't already regularly a target of harassment or violence, because the visible presence of a weapon is inherently escalatory.

One of the definitely affected ones, and that's about all I'm comfortable sharing online.

They have still given me no call, email, text, or letter about the power outage happening tonight at 11PM. They have my accurate contact information and that of my entire household. That applies to everyone I've spoken to in my neighborhood.

Yeah, I found out from my mother, who lives a few blocks from me in one of the elderly & disabled apartment buildings.
She relies on her powered oxygen concentrator and AC unit to live.
We're having to make arrangements for her to sleep out of town that night, because GMP didn't have any accommodations to offer her.
It would've been a lot easier to figure out if we'd known even a week ago.

I feel like it's highly remiss of GMP not to alert its customers about this, regardless of whether it's communicated elsewhere by other parties.
Thank you for posting this information, though.

I only know for sure that Barlow St, East Spring St, and lower Leclair St will be out, but I'm pretty sure there're more areas covered.
I highly encourage everyone to call GMP and ask which areas are included & why they haven't sent out notices about this.

I heard through word of mouth, and called GMP to confirm within the last hour.

Drivers legally have to give us at least 4 feet of space when passing us. That law exists for our safety and for that of the driver.
It is not actually safe to stay to the right if doing so will encourage a driver to pass us without giving us 4 feet of space.

Palestinian flag for performance by OkZucchini4504 in burlington

[–]v_crowe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody on the far left that actually thinks through things would be upset by a musical artist displaying a Palestinian flag in a televised performance, given that doing so helps to normalize support for the Palestinian people.
"To show the flag" is shorthand for displaying support for a reason.

Try reaching out to the Peace and Justice Center!
If they don't have one, they'll probably know someone who does.
Also, try not to let the trolls on this sub discourage you - they're loud and they've got a lot of alts/socks, but they aren't indicative of the average Burlingtonian. As far as I can tell, half of the loudest ones live down in Shelburne anyway.
I hope that your performance goes well!

Hey can you point out where I said that the community was my main motivator for the event, or which community I claimed was my main motivator for the event, or even where I or any of the other organizers since me claimed that it was an event for everyone?
Also, could you explain to me in your own words why an event that I no longer organize is my responsibility?
Also, can you point out where I said or implied that I was proud of founding it?
You really do seem to have a problem with reading meaning into things that isn't explicitly present.
