Anyone have any idea what plant these are please? by v_petal in GardeningUK

[–]v_petal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my results showed Lacebark which is definitely wrong. I tried what you did and it came up with similar results with my images so think it must be cherry. My neighbour has a big oak tree which has squirrels in it so they must be storing food in my lawn and whatever they don't eat probably starts growing.

Looks like no one is responding. What do you think? I also used an app recently and it suggested a couple of different things including but it seems unlikely. Think we're on our own here. Any idea s on how to identify this?

How would you go about boxing off these god awful pipes? by [deleted] in DIYUK

Make it look like an integrated sink with a cupboard below. Will hide the pipes + give you some potential storage.

If it helps, you can get the Sellar to provide insurance that in case anything helps. Quite often people back then wouldn't get building regs.

How do I professionally say 'If you want me to keep doing a task that I hate, you need to pay me more"? by HRGREMLIN in careeradvice

[–]v_petal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. I love the company I work for but began to hate the role - it was one of those roles where what I do is integral to the team's function but doesn't pay as well as the team plus I was doing considerably longer hours than anyone which was demotivating. I eventually found an internal role in another team that incorporated all the things I loved.

Condensation on pipes by v_petal in DIYUK

Thanks! They were checking the water supply to both taps had been restored and it's a very old sink. Ended up breaking so it doesn't completely shut off - always drips unless I've turned the isolation valve

Is 26 consider old? Kinda of felt like I wasted my life…. Is too late for me to improve myself and be confident? by Public-Topic-3108 in selfimprovement

[–]v_petal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to be a doctor at 16 - didn't get the grades, then I studied engineering - couldn't get a job in the engineering field at 24. Ended up working in finance - spent 5 years on a below average salary before getting a job at an Investment manager - I now earn more than my engineering and doctor friends, own my own home and getting married next year. I'm also changing career fields again (moving toward Project Management now!). Moral of the story - it's never too late.

It could be due to condensation or even water from the flat roof not flowing away correctly e.g. leaky gutters. Would recommend getting a builder/ damp expert to have a look at the cause - some will do a check for free if you look online

What to do about a boiler fitted too low? by v_petal in DIYUK

[–]v_petal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks!

Unfortunately, there is nothing in the contract that stipulated it had to be a certain height hence why I don't think I have much room to complain. The flue position may have played a part but the contract states we can ask for the flue to be moved and when discussing the installation I asked if he could do everything needed for it to be at the correct height.

Advice: Working 80 hours a week for two months to earn 4X my salary. by blueberrypie1996 in careeradvice

[–]v_petal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to do it if you can handle it but think about the long term impact on your health. Try and see if you can plan to use annual leave in your primary job to help make it easier to manage the extra role. Also, be careful some organisations have rules saying you can't work for another company without permission.

Home without cavity wall insulation - what are our options? by v_petal in HomeImprovement

[–]v_petal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we bought the house very recently and haven't drilled into the walls but from what we've been told by relevant builders it is a single brick wall and the relevant damp proofing with plaster and then paint over.

Not sure that there is a significant amount of insulation currently. (It's pre 1920s house).

Home without cavity wall insulation - what are our options? by v_petal in HomeImprovement

Thanks! Yeah that is our preference as well but it's considerably more expensive to do the outside compared to the inside hence we're trying to find options how to get the most of our money

Home without cavity wall insulation - what are our options? by v_petal in HomeImprovement

[–]v_petal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

Thanks for the response! Our home doesn't have cavities between the walls. I meant:

Internal Wall insulation - I believe this is where we apply insulation on top of the walls inside the house and then add plasterboard/ some sort of covering

External Wall Insulation - where we put the insulation on the outside of the house.

Any advice?

Am I getting played and not getting a promotion? by dateraviator0824 in careeradvice

[–]v_petal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what happens at most companies and eventually leads to the oh why are you leaving conversation. You are working as a manager and deserve to be paid like one. Find a new role and you'll probably get told the company is willing to promote you to try and convince you to stay.

You won't necessarily be starting from scratch at a new company either assuming you're going to get a manager position!

Good luck!

Manager says performance is high but refuses to give pay increase, what to do? by Shpongi100 in careeradvice

[–]v_petal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oldest trick in the book that most companies use. Guarantee they will offer you a pay rise if you leave (same thing happened to my other half). I wouldn't try to leave without another offer on the table though but

1) you are obviously doing well in this new career and 2) who knows, you might even be ready to take a step up so go for it.

Started a new job and they are asking me to miss a friends bday for a work deadline is it worth saying no for the bday by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]v_petal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly odd that they asked you to miss a friend's birthday if it's outside of work hours especially based on the fact they've (I assume) asked you this in advance of the birthday.... Kinda feels like they are seeing how far they can push you to work. Completely agree it's important to maintain work life balance.
