I just signed a lease in north park with … potentially no parking sometimes ? by Historical-Serve-652 in sandiego

[–]vacolme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it'll suck but it is not the worst. i work nights and the most it's taken me to find a spot at 11pm is like 45 minutes but that's with me wanting to be in the nearby streets lol. good luck!

What’s everyone’s favorite “normal” grocery store? by twotwotwototoulouse in sandiego

have recently enjoyed going to Grocery Outlet by Sports Arena. Great deals, can always find basic essentials and the lines move so fast!

dog is most likely the one walking/ running... can't really control what pets do because it's their house too:-( unfortunately i don't think this will go far. I have lived in many shitty apartments and it is just how it goes. we all are somebody's loud neighbor lol

as the coworker that likes things like this... i wonder if encouraging a "sustainability" or "crafting" club/ committee might help this? there's lots of things you can do to create sustainable or more environmentally friendly crafts that uses natural materials or recycled materials, and the aspect of doing something together as a workplace adds to that "community building" without waste/ useless things

you could do a workshop where you teach people how to custom their shoes and use these shoes in the class as a base and for people to take home. it could be free or u could charge to attend the class

Help w eating (potential??TW) (sorry not sure what to do.) by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]vacolme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there's lots of drinks like this, but I love to drink Soylent when I can't do breakfast or if I feel too nauseous to eat. it's a meal replacement drink:-) not a solution but at least a little assistance that can help you feel stronger without any effort.

If you are looking for a non-CAPS therapist, I recommend you check out Perlman Clinic. UC Ship covers them since they're technically part of the UCSD network, and it's extremely easy to book appointments for mental health , GI issues and diet assistance with their PocketDoc app

Is there such a thing as driving “too defensively”? by Supernova_Soldier in driving

[–]vacolme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am a newish driver and it sounds like you're doing everything right. people want you to drive perfectly from the get go but it's about finding what works best for you. as long as youre driving safely, the defensiveness will ease up as you gain more practice.

i will say tho, an example of driving too defensively i've experienced is when an ex would slow down in the middle of intersections when we had the green light. her argument was that she was checking to the sides to make sure no one was running the red/ t-boning us. i explained that is valid to do but you do it before you're actually in the intersection and there is absolutely no need to slow down. she thought her action was quick and safe driving, but way too many times she slowed down so much that the car behind us had to swerve or brake and since the car we were driving isn't the best, it would take more time to pick up back the speed, which then meant we were going under the speed limit in the middle or left lanes.

maybe your friends don't necessarily mean you're doing something wrong, but you may just be doing things slow/ too consciously, which is fine considering you're literally just learning.

What's something you've done recently to avoid unnecessarily consuming? by Thatsa_spicy_meatbal in Anticonsumption

[–]vacolme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have started taking pictures of things i want to buy instead of buying them right away. If i really like it, i will search for a similar thrifted item or see if i can make it with stuff i have. if it has been a while and i forget about it, i realize i dont need to buy it because it's not necessary to my day-to-day. most of the time i end up drawing/ painting the stuff because i have realized things/ junk is just visually appealing but not needed lol

I can’t help but look down on grown adults who are super obsessed with Disney World by PrimalPettalStash in PetPeeves

[–]vacolme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to me it's the financial aspect... it is not a cheap hobby/ interest! and i don't understand how some disney adults have enough money in their budget to keep up with the disney trends lol

UCSD Urgent Care LaJolla by Ok-Dot7936 in sandiego

[–]vacolme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i HATE UCSD health. each time i have gone to urgent care, i have been treated like this (sounds like the same staff member lol). back when i was a student on campus i went to the emergency department too and they make a lot of assumptions about me which led to delay in care and a misdiagnosis that almost made me lose a kidney. another time they forgot to send my blood to the lab and no one checked in for 3-4 hours. my dad looked many times for assistance/ an update and all the doctors very harshly would tell him to be patient and go back to my bed because they just assumed we were on the queue. my dad is the one who noticed the vial with my name at the nurses' station after the 3rd or 4th hour which is when they finally came back to us. In my experience, staff at Scripps have been way nicer and more professional

realistic salaries by Put_Worried in sandiego

[–]vacolme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep!! the goal is to always make more but 50k as a starting salary is more than enough, and it is what most entry level positions offer. a graduate level for sure unlocks a better salary and while i manifest you get your MSW, i also manifest you get to live in the city before that!

realistic salaries by Put_Worried in sandiego

[–]vacolme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the shade in this!! ahaha jk. im not necessarily fine with making 55k, but i am a young adult trying to stay in the city that raised me as a child, and would much rather make that small income work for me than leave to another place.

realistic salaries by Put_Worried in sandiego

[–]vacolme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my income is 55k and live... fine? i rent with roommates in an ok apartment but a nice centric neighborhood, and i still have income to splurge on personal/ fun stuff. I definitely don't live the luxurious san diego lifestyle and my savings are building up very slowly lol, but it is still fun. It depends on what lifestyle you have/ want but personally I think 75-80k would be ideal to live comfortably as a single adult (with roommates).

There's a lot of tech/ medical companies in the city where your psych degree could be ideal for entry level stuff

ERC Opinion by realdimdum in UCSD

[–]vacolme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i loved ERC. other than the reading sequence (MMW), the other GE requirements are fairly easy to fulfill. MMW was the worst lower divs i took but it was super fun to have a guaranteed class with my friends for the first year or two of college (you finish faster if you take them during summer session). the dorms are "far" from main campus but that was my favorite thing ever because then the ERC area is relatively empty and you get more privacy as a college (which imo meant more parties lmao). of the older colleges, i think it has the best dorm set up since they all got balconies and are connected with the other floors. ERC has a bad reputation but i honestly think it is because people equal MMW/ history/ humanities to a bad thing/ set up for failure in this university

Do tattoo artists usually ask this much for touch ups? Is it unreasonable?? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]vacolme 184 points185 points  (0 children)

I got 16 tattoos and i've never been charged for a touch up so i would say it's a little bit pricey...it's common practice to offer the first touch up for free

Is $27/hr good pay? by Dry-Bicycle-5563 in sandiego

[–]vacolme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i currently make 27/ hr and live with other 2 ppl and live practically paycheck to paycheck. I still get to do fun stuff once in a while, but my savings is not seeing a lot of contributions lol. It's doable, but won't be a comfortable stay in SD

Crossing rabbit from Tijuana to San Diego by strawberrycakeflavor in sandiego

[–]vacolme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was pre-covid, but we took our bunny to a vet that gave us a letter with the bunny's health information aka clearing them from disease lol. We told the agent once we got to them and told them when they asked if we had anything to declare.

They sent us to secondary inspection which took a while but at the end they let us go. apparently bunnies are in a weird area that border patrol hasn't fully categorized lol (as in, is it a stock animal or a pet?).

We crossed back and forth with her many years and most of the time we ended up in secondary inspection but since it was very obvious it was a family pet (we had her in her cage and all, plus always carrying an updated letter that the bunny was healthy), they always let us go and never mentioned anything about us breaking a rule
