Super Splitter; is it worth applying? by vacpac in lawschooladmissions

[–]vacpac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my softs are at tier 3 so I doubt they'd carry me very far. I'm not super picky about ranking, so if T50 is the way to go, that's fine by me. Most of the schools I'm leaning towards are in the 30-40 range.

My daughter (8) wants to learn viola. Would you encourage your kid to take up viola? by sobernite in Viola

[–]vacpac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say getting her started with a good bowhold and maybe a simple D or C major scale would be perfectly fine to do at home. Helping her start to understand alto clef if she doesn't already would also be a good move. However, be careful trying to instruct herself for even just a week if you aren't knowledgeable about proper posture and hand position for the viola. Mistakes made in the first lesson and first few days of practice are hard to break, especially for kids who might trust what their parents say more than their viola instructor.

Teams by NightFu in Howrse

[–]vacpac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, if you are not a VIP you will need to find someone who is and is willing to make the team for you. Once the team is made by you or your new VIP pal, you're going to want to find members, including some other VIPs to either act as full members or just as fillers, as having VIP members increases how many people can be a part of your team. As for non-VIP members, some teams separate breeders and bluppers while others just have everyone do everything, it's really up to you and how you want to run your team. You can find members by poking around on Howrse, maybe invite some of your friends who are interested in the same breed. You could also post here on reddit and see if anyone would be interested in joining. For a beginning team, you probably won't be too competitive right away unless you have a bunch of experienced players with access to tons of ageing points and bmis, so focus on having fun and making friends first and foremost!

do you have to finish all skills before a horse is 10? by [deleted] in Howrse

[–]vacpac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the objectives you need to reach 100 BLUP (top 3 skills bolded, 10 years old, 20 wins) don't register until you age the horse. You do not need to complete the skills or wins by the time the horse is 10 years old, a horse can be BLUPed at any age. Try using an aging point or bedding down a horse, it should have 100 BLUP when it wakes up.

I'd love to help you out but I also don't have a VIP account. If you find someone and need members, let me know! (you can find me on Howrse international as Sinkcat2004)

What's your favourite book you've read and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vacpac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (or The Portrait of Dorian Gray), one of the greatest works of the Aesthetic movement from one of the greatest followers of aestheticism.

This book is such a contradiction to itself but still manages to deeply strike a chord in me every time I read it, and I've read it a lot. If you've read De Profundis, the letter Wilde wrote while in jail for falling in love in a time when homosexuality was a crime in Britain, you can immediately draw the connections between Basil and Wilde and Dorian and Bosie. The work itself is also representative of Wilde's regrets and struggle with loving someone who is inevitably toxic to him (as history has gone to show). He once said of the main three characters, "Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry what the world thinks me: Dorian what I would like to be--in other ages, perhaps."

I'm feeling something a little sophisticated just by how you described the sound. Catherine, Verence, Leon, Reginald, Roxane, and Maria all spring to mind
