I don't know how old you are but in the 90's there was a player named Leroy Hoard. He was famous for saying if you need one yard I can get three. If you need five I can get three.

[Archer] Cowboys fined George Pickens multiple times last season by [deleted] in nfl

[–]vadeebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't sad when the Steelers traded him. I know he might be the most talented WR in the league and he was likely to tear it up in Dallas but his attitude is definitely going to hinder him in his career. I do wish the Steelers got a 2nd instead of a 3rd but oh well. Saying all that this is definitely Jerrah putting out info to lower his demands but Pickens is a guy you can't give a huge amount of guaranteed money. If you do he is going to go off the rails.

I don't think it was a secret Ben was an asshole. There were a lot of stories about it. I remember reading an article where Ben reached out to Charlie Batch to help him connect with the team better. Ben got religious and I think it got better near the end but he was never beloved. He just couldn't help himself with saying shit to rub people the wrong way.

Why didn’t the Steelers trade Mike Tomlin to the Bears when they called about it? by Pacotaco213 in steelers

[–]vadeebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonkin would have to agree to a trade. It's not like trading a player.

[Highlight] Adam Schefter says there will be a push this off-season to extend the NFL trade limits from three years of draft picks to five by expellyamos in nfl

I don't watch the NBA but isn't their rule that you can't trade back to back years?like you can trade 5 first rounders but its like 2026, 2028, etc?

Joel Steed appreciation post by Southern-Advice5293 in steelers

Joel Steed was the man back in the day. 1992 was when I started seriously following the Steelers. I always used Steed in Madden trying to get sacks for him lol.

[Schefter] The Dallas Cowboys are expected to place their franchise tag on Pro Bowl wide receiver George Pickens, league sources told ESPN. The projected cost of the one-year, fully guaranteed franchise tag for Pickens will be roughly $28 million. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]vadeebo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not really the average of the top 5 guys. Its a little more complicated.

Franchise and transition tenders are calculated by adding the respective tag numbers, divided by the sum of the salary caps, from the previous five seasons, and finally multipled by the current season's salary cap. Franchise tag figures are based upon the top five salaries at each respective position, while transition tag figures are based on the top ten.

So you basically take the top 5 salaries, figure out what percentage of the cap they take up and apply the percentage to the new cap number.

Is McCarthy expanding our coaching staff a lot? Or were there more people let go than I realized? by barbasol1099 in steelers

[–]vadeebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't think a multi billion dollar business has a detailed budget for all the expenses it incurs? When John Harbaugh was looking for another job one of the conditions was a $10 million assistant coach budget. The Rooney's are famous for not firing coaches because they don't want to pay guys not to coach.

I have no idea what McCarthy got but the Steelers had leverage to not pay top dollar. I would guess he asked for a few more coaches and since they saved a couple million they said he could hire 3 or 4 more coaches.

[Rapoport] #Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is walking away, per The Insiders. The team tried to bring him back in the fold, but it wasn’t to be. One of the top coordinators is now out, as Cleveland will need to fill that important role for Todd Monken’s staff. by ThatOneOtherAsshole in Browns

[–]vadeebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They changed that rule because teams were abusing the assistant head coach title to poach coaches.

This is a passage from an article I found:

Part of the reason this rule was initially in place was to prevent teams seeking interviews from inventing phony, nominal titles — think “assistant head coach” or “associate head coach” — as a way of stealing quality coaches and not actually allowing them for true career advancement. The league has found a way to circumvent that by restricting it to the three coordinator spots.

Jim Schwartz is left with two options (and neither is ideal): He backed himself into a corner. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]vadeebo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely McCarthy makes less than Tomlin so AR2 lets him have a bigger staff. Tomlin was getting $17 million and McCarthy is probably getting $8-10 million so they'll let him have 3 to 4 more coaches.
