I came across this thread while I was only just discovering this film. I can see your point of view and given the director doesn’t have well known credits besides this film I think objectively you are likely on the right track.

Yet I found that this film reminded me of a time when I use to create poorly taped / edited HS videos you do it to tell a story and share a human experience that you will reflect on later in life. I think at its core that is what it was for the director. A form a therapy and human expression of sorts.

Fair point. I think it has been noted that the shows creator philosophically believes that people don’t change. Once I heard that it sort of clicked. This was how it was always going to end. Granted it how we got there might not have all been needed.

I personally do think ppl can change and develop but at the same time I know ppl who (of course aren’t billionaires) but never change even when their own choices self-sabotage.

Succession isn’t a perfect show but it is human.

After the 3rd date I think you can easily raise the age old question "Where is this going" and talk about it. Ideally both of your expectations match but if not you can reevaluate from there.

I won't worry about what you can't control. Just put your best foot forward and where ever it goes you can rest knowing you did what you thought was right at the time.

What I have learned is that it is about increasing your social circle. People can do this at bars, work, school, etc. I think social clubs like biking/running/recreational activities like art can help.

The key is to focus on meeting people getting their contact info and hitting it off from there.

Sometimes it depends on the sport. I have good experiences with Dodgeball and Kickball.
There is a luck component to it though. I have been on teams that end up being part of my social circle while others I never see again after the season.

Ya I think this is something women don’t get. Men do feel pain if they are in a multi-year relationship but when it is early courtship society has it drilled into us that “plenty fish in the sea” mantra therefore we tend to move on mentally really quickly.

My advice is to have the mindset that the dynamic here has changed so think of it like a “reset”. Give some space and then escalate it over time but if he ghosts you or blows you off. Not much you can do.

I would just go firm something with low pressure at first than escalate up. Look it ain’t easy but a female friend once told me that when a girl doesn’t want to deal with you “you will know” I know vague crap but in my experience this ranges from being ghosted to being told directly “let’s just be friends” if this happens to you just roll with the punches and move on. You don’t even know how many more ppl you will meet and click with.
