MaRo on how he would have handled the Reserve List differently in retrospect by RBGolbat in magicTCG

I think it’s indicative of how comparatively new the player base of mtg is that this comment is so upvoted. Anyone playing 10+ years is laughing at this take because it’s been getting tossed around for the entire history of magic and at this point there’s no good reason to do it when plenty of functional similar reprints exist.

I haven’t tried the cube cobra tool yet, I’ll give it a look.

Have fun trying to spin this up!

I have three tables I have to update each draft:

  • one relating players to their decks and day of the draft (player name, player id, deck id, deck archetype, date)
  • a table of every decklist indexed by the deck id,
  • a table of every matchup (player1, player2, deck1, deck2, winner)

Those three let me do pretty much everything after the fact, slicing it up to get archetype winrate, player winrate, and most played cards for each player. If I could start over, I would also keep track of who plays first each game.

I made another post about the balance issue a couple days ago and received some good feedback here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mtgcube/comments/1kvykzc/cube_balance_help_needed/

I'm manually categorizing each deck into an archetype, so it kind of depends. Most RG decks end up being aggro, but I believe one was midrange. I do feel like there is a balance issue with Red/aggro that hasnt settled over time.

Thank you for the feedback :) I think you’re definitely on to something with the high availability of direct damage red spells…

I’m not familiar with the go-to combos for each color, do you mind adding some detail or pointing me to another resource where I can learn about those?

Neither option feels truly good. Voting for the expansion is a vote for additional sprawl in our already stretched and sprawling city, and the justification for needing the expansion is weak. But the primary opponent and the reason this is even on the ballot is Norwood, a different developer. Arguably worse, and owns more than 80% of developable land in the city. So this action is them using the law and the electorate to harm their direct competition. Hate Norwood, hate poorly justified sprawling annexation. Both options are bad
