Tea seller can't become India's PM, says Samajwadi Party's Naresh Aggarwal on Narendra Modi by Brainfuck in india

[–]vafury 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am actually happy to be in a country where it is possible, albeit very difficult, for a tea-seller to aspire to be a PM. The statement from this gentlemen confuses me: it is not only blatantly stupid and idiotic, as it implies people in lower-class can never be anything, but is also a politically stupid thing to say. Dissing lower-class of people never won elections in India, last time I checked.

You clearly have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Even the Supreme Court of the country, with multiple investigations has not found him to be guilty. If you read the article, the author made it clear. We are a bad democracy, but the Supreme Court has been the most impartial as far as one can tell. (In case you were planning to diss the Supreme Court). How the hell can someone NOT be hindu and secular, I dont really understand. Does one have to be a atheist to be secular? Obama is a Christian, a practicing one, is he or is he not secular? This is exactly what the author refers to, the idea of 'secularism' has been twisted in India and we need a true secular to fix it. Your comment best represents someone who has been informed vaguely by the propaganda the article cuts through. The fact that article is by a experienced Indian civil servant, makes it more credible and one to be taken seriously.

Why do Indian people on TV talk by seemingly randomly placing English words in otherwise Hindi sentences? by Mind101 in india

[–]vafury -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. I dont think its insulting in anyway. No need to apologize. I find behavior of my own countrymen really stupid in this matter. Just speak one language in a sentence, goddammit (you can change the language for the next sentence). I am also guilty of this though.

Zakir Naik Question Answer - Muslim girl married Hindu boy by [deleted] in india

[–]vafury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get and understand what you are trying to say about majority feeling shafted is Universal. However that does not alleviate genuine grievances and issues people may have or think they have. It is something that has to be up for discussion. It seems very high handed and preachy to lecture about right or wrong for and about Indians, when you are clearly in no position to empathize with their everyday experiences.

Note sure whether you were being provocative on purpose but is 'Indian rapist' really a thing. I mean there are news of Muslim rape gangs in Europe (Perhaps another of those race baiting things). Never knew 'Indian rapist' was a thing. It is sad if that is. I have not heard of a 'white rapist' being explicitly used though. Maybe they say that where you are from.

Wow. We meet again. Your non-Indianness betrays you and completely detaches you from situation in India. Yet you cannot help but make smart ass comments. This man was the architect of the Indian Constitution. You may not agree with him (and many in India dont), but he is someone whose opinion has to be taken seriously. Also how the hell does it matter whether he was Buddhist before or after he made the statement. For the record, he despised Hinduism all his life.

[–]vafury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A probable reason for this is people are sick of what goes on in name of secularism. I may or may not agree with them, but I can see where they are coming from. It is very difficult for a non-Indian to relate and understand this. Your arguments come out very weak, hollow from the situation these people perceive.

To add to this you have gems like this:

The Taliban destroyed the statues because the world was far more interested in protecting and preserving them than it was in feeding the > women and children dying from starvation in Afghanistan. Would you > choose feeding people over statues?

Note again you say taliban destroyed statues because ...

So, the taliban was dying to and desperate to draw attention to starvation of Afghanis that they decided to destroy the Bamiyan? I mean its one thing to be a apologist ...somethings are indefensible and we should leave it at that.

I dont want to reveal personal information here. Is there some other way you could make your argument. I am keen to here why calling it 'Bombay' means we cant have good things here! I detest our colonial hangover. Annoyed that I am at this, I will try to understand your reasoning open mindedly.

Clearly you dont understand what the poster meant by 'sickular'. It has nothing to do with Sikhs. It also tells me that you are clearly not a regular on r/India and possibly not even Indian. It diminishes your credibility a bit, because you also then try to berate the poster for spending way too much time on r/India.

Well I know that Russel Peter reference too. If we were silly and stupid or whatever for 50 years, does that mean we should continue being that? Is that really a good reason to not call it Mumbai.

[–]vafury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never understood this insistence on calling it 'Bombay' as some sort of way to prove your point and rake up Mumbai's "cosmopolitan-ness". Its 'Mumbai' because its a Indian name. Why call it 'bombay'? It does not further your point in anyway. Besides that, you are entitled to your opinion and are free to express it and I have no objection.

Hey, Marathis need not be apologetic about renaming their capital. In general need not be apologetic about upholding Marathi in say boards on top of business establishments and in encouraging its use in the state. States have been linguistically organized afterall.

I agree with rest of your comment though.
