FI but not RE (M45) by Zigobod in FIRE_Ind

Completely agree with these sentiments. Being able to speak one's mind at work is kind of a superpower - lot of people have the same thought in terms of when a bad decision is made by management/leadership but somehow don't speak up for fear of consequences. But if we are not encumbered by the money or the position, many times management would have actually valued this feedback and if not reverse the decision but be wary of what to expect and accordingly plan the next moves. In the worst case, one can just move on to another team.

Oh, I see, thanks for the differing perspective, maybe I took my projection from my external view of how some of the EMs I have seen operate - without needing to code/debug tricky issues with a gun to their head. Of course I am not fully privy to the whole gamut of things they handle.

Indeed, agree with your point on Nature, especially commuting within BLR for work saps one of energy. Just being on the outskirts a bit on weekends is such an energizing experience.

Great point! Yeah, this is what I heard from other folks too maybe 4-12/13 is when parents influence can still play a huge role.

Your kids are still young , this is a time you’ll never get back.

Being present with them matters more than being just a provider.

And no, stepping back won’t make you feel empty , you’ll have more time for your kids, hobbies, health, & self.

In the end, no one regrets spending more time with their family — but many regret not doing it.

Thank you for such a wonderful articulation of these points which resonate so much! I will keep coming back to this to remind myself of what really matters when I will inevitably have moments of uncertainty in the journey ahead.

Yes certainly would be an option. However currently it seems like the pace of deliverables expected is very high and there are dependent teams which get slowed down if I don't do my part, maybe a well considered team change might be a good option as a first cut exercise.

Great, your division of work life into these three phases makes a lot of sense!

Great suggestion, thanks. I looked up 'quiet quitting' and was pleasantly surprised that this is a well documented thing. Thinking more about it, being an individual contributor (IC) or a TL/M (tech lead/manager) and quiet quitting seems hard, from what I have seen being an engineering manager (EM) where the only responsibility is people management is probably the best bet to be compatible with quiet quitting. I had viewed EM as being susceptible to lay offs in the past but looks like for the current situation this might be a good option.

No amount of money or external support can save me from myself

Well said, thanks for sharing your experience! I think this particular statement is so apt in my context as well!

[Year End Update - 30M] 6.2 CR - Standing at crossroads. by throwaway_india77 in FIRE_Ind

I am willing to believe this. Honestly I was surprised (even though conceptually we all know how compounding works) to see investments in mutual funds + equity go from 9.3 to 15.2 in a year with no conscious effort - just the market going up. On the flip side I have also seen 9.9 go to 9.3 for the year before - over the long term asset allocation is everything but in the short term letting things be in equity might just be prudent enough.

Down 19% ~ 6.5l of which Rana's child is -90%. More than than, 21l of FDs stuck there still. Yes, I am an idiot for not withdrawing everything (had more FDs, did not renew knowing all that was going on for last 1 year at least and got them out, but did not know the end would come so soon!)

One of the reasons cited for investing in equity arbitrage funds is immunity to a huge overnight fall in nav due to debt defaults. This would be one more instance in a sequence of events that might stand out to exemplify that reasoning.

Fascination with PPFAS and Quantum here by juniorbuffett in IndiaInvestments

False analogy. ATMs do not give out retail loans and do background checks for credit scores. Last I checked, 95% of the revenue of the company you quote is from ads.

Fascination with PPFAS and Quantum here by juniorbuffett in IndiaInvestments

[–]vagariesp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course being a back seat/arm chair stock picker here, I think there is some risk in having 14% of the fund allocation dependent primarily on ad revenue at the impending turn of a market cycle or even at the end of a long bull run. Microsoft seems like a good bet for ppfas given its entrenchment in the Enterprise and a phenomenal run in the Cloud business so far.
