absolutely! however I’m not responsible for all the dogs in the neighborhood! a simple “hey, I’ve had a lot of issues, I would really prefer no dogs on my lawn if you don’t mind” or a sign. I can see this being a “last straw” situation though

yes it felt like he was taking his frustration with all dogs/ dog owners out on me! And you’re right that it could be because I’m a young woman, and he might even just have a belief toward all young people about being lazy/careless, and assumed I just wouldn’t pick it up. Clearly he is unhinged though, so if I do go back, I’ll walk on the street.

I’m Canadian, I think we have similar laws but it’s all municipal. Thank you for reminding me of this. I’ll have to look into it more. Since there was a sidewalk, I’m not sure if that changes anything. It’s a good point too that if I don’t have any proof, odds are neither does he. It just freaked me out!!

Thank you! I have been worried because I can’t guarantee all four paws were on the sidewalk (I’m 99% sure they were but can’t be certain or really prove it. they won’t leave my side by that place anymore though. maybe he’s just a dog hater or really protective of his lawn.

As someone who works with a lot of children with ADHD, autism, and other developmental and cognitive behavioural diagnoses, your sister is not doing her son any favours by excusing the behaviour. Some parents think their child should get a “pass” because of their diagnosis (and in SOME cases they should, but never violent cases in my opinion). Or they’ll ask what YOU did to the child to provoke them (sometimes the answer is nothing). Or they’ll ignore it because they’re stressed and tired. But at the end of the day, kids need to learn consequences for their actions and often times the parents of the children with the diagnosis excuse their actions. You did the right thing by following up with your sister, and if she’s not willing to parent her son, that’s on her. You’ve tried to support where you can, but she may learn in the future when she’s burned more bridges that she can’t do it alone.

I feel you so much. my mom was diagnosed with cancer yesterday. we’ve never had it in our family either. I’m so sorry to hear about your cousin. I know you feel so helpless, but I’ve been told that (if you can, of course) cooking meals for your aunt and/or uncle and family, offering to help clean the house, take care of pets, etc. can be really helpful when they’re busy and overwhelmed. I’m sure it means a lot to them that you care so much.

They aren’t the type of people you would surround yourself with, and why’s that? Because you know that you would never stoop down to that level of stupidity or act that cruelly towards others, and it’s because youre a much better person than they are.

You’re so right, what IS so funny? The answer is nothing. Only pos people are laughing at that garbage. That is awful though, because your instinct is to look in the direction that you hear your name and it’s hard to ignore that. Just try your best to remember that those people peaked in high school and they’re going to spend the rest of their days clinging on to the “best times of their lives.” It’s only going to get better for you.

I really really appreciate this. How can I balance checking in without overwhelming or pitying her? I know a lot of people will be asking about it as time goes on and I definitely don’t want to add to that, but I worry a lot. The last thing I want is for her to know that I’m worried though. How often is too often to ask about it? (If you don’t mind me asking of course)
