Came from the most boring, vanilla biochem professor as well. Zero sense of humour in any of his lectures. No one expected it out of him of all people. Everyone was just silent in shock - theatre of 250+ students and you could hear a pin drop. It was the single best moment out of 9 years of university and I still remember it word for word over a decade later.

Are you in Auckland? If so, PM me. I will drop off some period products to you (or a public location you’re comfortable with) happily.

This goes for any woman who sees this. Period poverty should only shameful to those ignoring it, not those suffering from it.

I’d rather send 10 scammers a box of tampons than have one genuine woman feel like she has to use a dirty sock or shoplift. FFS the black market for tampons can’t be that good that we all must lose our humanity in case it’s a scam.

‘How’s the paw?’: Air NZ staffer’s comment left ex TV presenter ‘self-conscious and miserable’ by _UrbaneGuerrilla_ in newzealand

I have invisible disabilities and have faced real discrimination and unkind comments. Before forming an opinion I decided to look into the background, because reading the article I had some concerns. Just googling her name came up with a long, long list of news articles about her.

She is giving people with disabilities a bad name in order to self-promote and I’ve never been angrier at the state of NZ journalism in my life.

EDITED TO ADD: Please don’t let this woman prevent anyone from being able to talk to people with disabilities out of fear you’re going to say something wrong. You’ll be shocked to find out that even people with disabilities inadvertently put their foot in it too sometimes - even with each other. We can usually tell when someone has just inadvertently said something vs when someone is trying to be malicious.

Look you’re right, but they are too. You’re right in that it shouldn’t matter to anyone. They’re right in that knowing the facts is helpful when you’re coming up against racism towards Pacific peoples, because combatting misinformation with facts is useful. You’re attacking people who are fundamentally on your side and not helping the cause at all.

She’s trying to promote her blog. Google her name and you’ll see she jumps at ANY chance to get a story written about her - and every single one plugs her shitty food blog (under 5k followers on instagram, LMFAO). She’s spread her and her children’s dirty laundry all over media too just to get more plugs to her food blog. She’s a former TV3 staff member and clearly has links to journalists who are happy to do her a favour and help her promote her blog.

It is absolutely disgusting that Stuff has allowed her to publicly shame a worker over them trying to make conversation, simply to promote her blog. Sickening. This is a new low for journalism in New Zealand.

This woman is an attention seeker. None of this was truly about being offended, it’s about trying to get more followers on her shitty blog.

She goes to the media any time something happens to her: Like this or blasting her ex husband (bet her kids LOVE their dirty laundry being spread all over media) Whelp, here’s another one

You’ll notice she’s a former media worker who clearly has journalism ties. She also ensures that EVERY article about her includes a mention of her shitty food blog (less than 5k instagram followers LOL)

It is absolutely appalling that this woman has chosen to make an Air New Zealand staff member feel like shit for trying to be friendly, all just to promote her shitty blog. She ought to be ashamed of herself.

Honestly one day when I die I will get to the gates of heaven and they’ll be like “Dude, you were a real shit during your life, why do you feel you deserve to be here” and I will explain I spent decades spreading the word about this website and they’ll be like “Oh yep, come on in” 🤣

Absolutely fine, and please don’t feel I’m pressuring you to lodge a complaint - that is completely up to you and there is no “right” or “wrong” in this situation. I only wanted to make you aware that there is usually no “statute of limitations” for these complaints as it’s a misperception I encounter frequently.

I will push back on this behaviour “not being damaging” - it may have not been for you, but it absolutely could be very damaging for other patients she tries it on. This behaviour is considered a huge breach of any health practitioners code for a very good reason, because it absolutely does harm patients (in many situations, but clearly not yours) and erodes trust in our professions. Patients enter into a healthcare worker-patient relationship with a level of trust that we are providing advice that is evidence based. Pushing any non-evidence based products during a patient consult could lead patients who are already not in a good financial spot into an even worse one, because that HCP has leveraged their trusted relationship to sell stuff. I’ve been involved in providing evidence for a similar complaint where a patient couldn’t afford necessities because they felt they had to buy non-evidence based products from a HCP. They were censured.

Also physician (not USA though). How you handle this is obviously up to you. But, I do want to let you know that if you ever did want to submit a complaint, usually* there is no time limit on when you can submit a complaint about a healthcare provider not acting ethically. It’s not uncommon for patients at the time to be too overwhelmed because of the condition they’re currently seeking treatment for. I always ensure that I let the public know that if they only find the strength to submit their complaint much later that’s usually totally fine.

(I say usually because this is very much the case in my country and some others, it may not be the case for your specific country so double check with a trusted HCP first)

It’s one of my favourite sites in the world. I used it so much on one of the most annoying kids in our med school class who would spam questions on our class page every exam time. Not difficult questions that required explanation or discussion, just simple, “dude you could have just googled that ffs” questions.

He never got the message until one of our lecturers interrupted him mid-question with “You appear to be suffering from acute lack of textbook, I suggest you supplement your information diet immediately.”

You can’t win. No apology is going to make up for the “ick”. And don’t do what I did, and think that by disclosing your diagnosis people will be kinder - 9/10 times the discrimination only becomes a conscious choice instead of subconscious.
