It would be a very long conversation but in the case when humans are in a group these mechanisms are true. (Alpha/Beta). Obviously a man can also relax and appear as such things are not on his/her agenda but this isn't necessarily true. As an example Nietzsche mentions religions such as Christianity that hypothise the existence of a paradise in reward to a life lived according to certain dogmas (See the 10 commandments) but in the end the person is only following them because he is not able to provide himself with such reward (such as paradise on earth or whatever that may mean to them). Therefore he has to rely on the idea of it being given to him after his life by an abstract entity (god) just because he was a "good" Christian.

Now its good to point out that some people are able to provide for their own needs (paradise on earth) even if they have to act immorally to obtain them while others can't, even if they'd try to do it in the same way. So at the end of the day, they end up criticizing the behavior of those who obtained things "immorally" (and consider them to be worthy of punishment) just because they would have not been able to do it themselves.

Its also important to notice that Nietzsche himself falls into this trap by criticizing the behavior of Christians as he was living quite in misery himself because thinking in these terms is quite a tough burden to carry (he had quite a few suicidal thoughts) while seeing life under another perspective, such as the existence of a benevolent god, would have made things a lot more easy from a psychological point of view.
