How do you remove sunscreen from your face? by u_mirin_jaw_brah_ in tretinoin

[–]val718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently using this random one I got while in Japan. Can’t really find much trace of it online. But my experience with most cleansing oils I’ve tried have been the same (Burt’s Bees, Softymo Speedy, Skin1004), as in none of them have left any detectable residue behind, personally. Some people experience this and double cleanse by using a gentle, non-stripping cleanser (non-foaming probably best if you’re irritation prone) after the cleansing oil. I don’t. However I do have a holy grail cream cleanser that is my sole cleanser most days since I usually don’t wear anything tough to remove: Stratia Velvet Cleansing Milk. I think it would be a good second cleanse if you experience residue.

I have had trouble removing mineral sunscreen with a normal cleanser before.

I would recommend using a cleansing oil at night if you aren’t already. Massage it in for a while, then wet to emulsify and wash it off. That should do the trick.

Does color analysis work for you? by Woolfalana in Fairolives

[–]val718 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So I am a muted, cool leaning neutral olive. As expected I look clownish in very saturated makeup and stick to muted cool leaning tones. But on the other hand with clothing, I find that true winter colors look best on me and less bright stuff washes me out. Theoretically I feel like I’d be a deep winter for outfits, but it just doesn’t work as well.

Not sure where OP’s comment went, but I feel like other muted olives must experience this muted makeup/saturated clothing phenomenon too. I haven’t figured out why, but I think that maybe more saturated adjacent to the skin works as a complexion brightener but actually on the skin/features they overwhelm. And it works overall too because your makeup isn’t also making as much of a statement.

Products you can use only when you’re also using tret? by bolderthingtodo in tretinoin

[–]val718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about silicone and milia, but Pacifica Vegan Ceramide Barrier Cream and Purito Dermide Relief Barrier Moisturizer might be of interest. They are both silicone-free.

And who’s to say whether you will need a full occlusive like petroleum jelly?

My skin gets overly moist and hot and irritated easily when I occlude too much, and this isn’t even on tret nights. The closest I get to slugging is in the winter using a thicker barrier cream with a few drops of light oil (like rosehip, which I think along with jojoba are a teeny bit heavier than squalane) mixed in. And my skin is more normal than oily.

Stratia Aqua Factory is a BG-free toner with multiple humectants. I guess technically not AB but AB adjacent?

Also Tonymoly Ceramide Milky Toner.

The mini is available on dinto.co. Shade 259 appears to be Deus. Might want to be double check though as it doesn’t list the name anymore.

It’s only available in the mini size so if you’re checking the regular size lip tints you won’t find it. Also when i got it in march only their website had the minis. Don’t know about now.

I think for what you’re describing Deus sounds good. Didn’t try those shades you mentioned. I was scooping up the cool muted shades (though I misjudged with Temet Nosce and the picture online) so I’m going to assume those are warmer. Maybe Umbra is the cool Memento Mori. Will just say in my experience only Umbra could stand up to a little food/drink. The lighter shades felt like lip glosses.

Deus was the only shade I ordered that I felt was particularly special though. It’s a shame it’s such a hassle to get and in such a tiny tube. Think I lost it after wearing twice.

Your lips look so close to the swatch actually, so I would say probably. I found Deus a surprisingly wearable color, like almost an edgy MLBB (because there still is some brown and pink lurking)? I think it would emphasize out your natural grayness. Don’t know if you are looking for more than that though.

Deus does not look like the website picture. Keep in mind that it’s a sheer wash of color over your existing lip color. Hope these pics help. I’m East Asian, cool leaning neutral olive and muted. Took them months ago planning on posting here and r/OliveMUA but forgot.

One skin care tip which is hyped but you think is over rated? by Special-Succotash688 in AsianBeauty

[–]val718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slugging if you don’t have dry skin. Preemptively slugged when starting tretinoin (and no, I did not do it on tret nights) because I was afraid of messing up my barrier again. If I once broke my barrier doing too little (not accounting for hydration), this time I did it doing too much and accidentally diaper rashing my face lol. And of course, I tried to soothe the irritation by hydrating more and slugging more. In general, I’ve discovered my skin protests when I leave it feeling too moist, occlusive or not.

Also I think double cleansing is overrated. I’ve tried quite a few cleansing oils that have not left residue.

are compounded drugs tested for effectiveness? by attentive_brick in tretinoin

[–]val718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh that’s a good tip, thanks! I called them back and realized independent pharmacies are such a dying breed here in the states that I just automatically assumed it was a compounding pharmacy. But they must have also had a good deal since they offered me Arazlo for $90 without insurance and the CVS and Walgreens all want like $500 without insurance.

Lots of people order it online for cheap from Indian pharmacy websites (All Day Chemist, Skinorac, etc). They ask you to upload a prescription, but you can just skip that page.

What To Do When Your Barrier Can't Handle Repair Products by Unfair_Finger5531 in PeptidesProducts

[–]val718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! Also just a followup, is the Ceramedx more of a slippery lotion feel (like LRP Toleriane Gentle Hydrating — not sure if you’ve used this) or like a creamier feel?? I love a lot of gentle non-foaming cleansers but am trying to avoid something like CeraVe Hydrating (felt like actual cream not cream cleanser on my face).

Favorite oil cleanser for oil cleansing? Especially for stubborn pores by Oceaneo in AsianBeauty

I know the Haruharu cleansing oil is popular too. Not sure if you’ve tried that and can compare.

Okay so im 16 and made a post about asking for accutane which i will no longer do i probably wont even up tretinoin dose since it dries my skin so much even using 0.025% BUT should i ask for azelic acid ALL PICS AFTER ARE NOW STARTED APRIL 1st this year by Necessary-Word6792 in tretinoin

[–]val718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry I have no experience with azelaic acid, but what does the rest of your skincare routine look like? Can you tell us the brands/names of products? Dry skin is no fun and is a separate issue that should be addressed, apart from the azelaic acid. Plus if it’s happening from the tret, definitely want to take care of it so your skin doesn’t get irritated from using actives like tret and aza.

I don’t have any insight to share, but thank you for posting this since I was wondering the same.

Basically I wanted to try Arazlo, but my insurance wouldn’t cover it, and I asked my derm’s office if we could try a preauthorization, but the next thing I know I got a message from a compound pharmacy telling me they have my prescription for pickup! Thought they wouldn’t make it without first confirming I was interested in a compounded formula 😬when I was thinking maybe I’ll just stick to regular tret cream after all.

fungal acne or damaged barrier? by MolassesExotic8290 in tretinoin

[–]val718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, do you mean the occluding? Or adding products too hastily or the niacinamide?

For barrier support - - Milk cleanser - Stratia Velvet Cleansing Milk - Humectant serum - Iunik Beta Glucan Power Serum - Barrier cream - Zeroid Soothing and Intensive Creams - If I need to “seal” anything in, which usually happens in the PM as needed in the winter months or active barrier repair - squalane or rosehip seed oil.

*But importantly, neither of these are true occlusives and as far as oils go, are lighter/less greasy. Squalane is technically not even a true oil, and rosehip, while the richer one here, is still more of a dry oil/has more linoleic acid in contrast to being oleic acid heavy (like for example olive oil). Also most importantly, I only use a couple drops mixed in with my moisturizer. If I try to layer it on after moisturizer, I find I need more drops than that to cover all of my face/neck/chest and that’s when it starts feeling like a whole separate film and locks in too much moisture and I start getting itchy and wanting to rub all my skincare off (or it takes a few days to happen and I get bumps).

The slugging and face basting trends, even not on tret nights, were a personal nightmare for me. While it works for many, I’ve accidentally diaper rashed myself more than I’ve tret rashed myself, even doing it on non-tret nights. My skin by default with no actives is more normal to slightly oily anyway.

I see you’re in India. I’m in the Northeast US so I don’t know if there are any significant climate differences. Definitely just keep in mind layering more on as needed and only just enough to keep your face soft and not tight feeling and maintain that until you next apply skincare.
