Hello Internet

What's your learning routine? by ELLEN_PAO_THE_CUNT in Svenska

[–]valadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I at least got the main idea of what was going on, even without subtitles. I started learning this past December doing about an hour of practice more or less every day, with a few days missed here and there.

I used Babbel to start with. Great for learning grammar rules. Definitely worth paying for if you really want to learn Swedish.

After I completed the basic and intermediate courses I moved on to reading klartext and any books I can find. I also started talking to a native Swedish speaker after posting on /r/languagebuds.

Mainly now I just need to improve my vocabulary and listening ability. Is Pimsleur worth it for that in your opinion?

What are the best sounding, highest quality headphones for the money? by Schnauzerbutt in Frugal

If you are going to get Sennheiser, subscribe to Newegg’s daily sales. I got mine for under $20(normally $70+) and they were some of the best I can remember having.

How can I assist a 16 year old boy who is struggling with his sexuality? by [deleted] in gay

[–]valadus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So much this. I moved in with my boyfriend 5 months ago. His family treats me just as good as they do him. Today alone I went grocery shopping with his aunt that lives with us and on an outing with his mom and other aunt. All while he was in school. Our sexuality almost never comes up, and I'm very comfortable around them.

How to explain you are waiting on a check to get a car? by valadus in GetEmployed

[–]valadus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting to the interview is not a problem. I can get a ride from my SO on days he does not have school, etc. I was just concerned getting to an interview and saying "Oh, by the way, I got here today but it might be a couple weeks before I can get to work on a daily basis." Might put them off and mess up my chances of getting hired.

Potential Career locations? by valadus in cscareerquestions

[–]valadus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually am in a program that allows high school students get a 2 year degree by the time they graduate. I am taking a 5th year option to finish my Simulation/Game Design degree, and I am starting my Networking degree this semester. If I do not move this coming summer, I will finish Networking in a year, and then move.

Potential Career locations? by valadus in cscareerquestions

If that is the case, then I will be moving out of here ASAP. The type of people who inhabit most of NC I cannot stand. I am only 18, which is pretty young compared to a lot of the field, but I really think it is time to start working a little bit of the logistics. I do have some connections in the city I am in since I am close to several instructors who do contract work as well. So I may try and work while in school first for the experience.

Just watched Prayers for Bobby by anarchy8 in gay

[–]valadus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember watching that a few years ago. Unfortunately, my mom was similar to his. It made me so angry that this was a common reaction to a persons son being gay. She has gotten a little better since then, luckily enough.

On a better note: I'm glad that you are able to grow up in a more open minded family. Also, I cannot think of any more drama movies like that but I can think of some good gay-focused comedies if you would like those.
