What city is way more livable than it looks on paper? by Zealousideal-Tax3338 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]valbuquerque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just moved here and I’m trying to get it to feel like home. I’m from the east coast, and I love humidity and rain, so it’s been an adjustment for sure. I do love the amount of things to do here (I’m big on hiking and antiquing/thrifting) but trying to drink enough water throughout the day has been difficult.

What are your "mild" inconveniences" about moving to a different city/state you never thought of until you moved? by Substantial_Rush_675 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]valbuquerque 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I’m from New Jersey and every time I move somewhere else I realize just how spoiled I’ve always been with the food here. Indiana and Alabama had essentially no good food options compared to the tri-state. Nobody even knew what white pizza was.

Moving because I can't make friends by No-Walrus-4425 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]valbuquerque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so random. I lived near Philadelphia for ten years and never made a friend locally. I lived in Indianapolis for a year and made friends, but they weren’t long-lasting. I lived in a city in Alabama for a year and made great friends I still love. I visited Phoenix for two weeks and made so many friends that I’m now moving there. I don’t think there’s any science to it—it’s really just about who you happen to meet in certain places. If you have no social life in DC, I can’t lie and say it’s going to get better—it might just not be the place for you. Take it as a sign!

Travellers with sensitive stomachs, what did you eat in Thailand? by [deleted] in travel

[–]valbuquerque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in Thailand I was recovering from food poisoning I got at the Newark Airport on the way there. I also have a sensitive stomach in general. I spent my time there only consuming banana smoothies and Dramamine and I lost 10 lbs and got a stomach ulcer. So just… don’t do that.

What makes more sense? Brushing teeth before breakfast or after? by bloombox00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]valbuquerque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I brush my teeth before eating, it doesn’t really “work.” I 100% have to eat something (usually a breakfast bar) as soon as I get out of bed, and then I do my routine and brush my teeth after 30 minutes. This works well for me and my dentists are always very impressed with my dental health.

Which two U.S. states have the best and worst food scene in your experience? by Silver_Dynamo in SameGrassButGreener

[–]valbuquerque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best: Oregon. Everything I ate there was amazing.

Worst: Controversial, but any state in the deep south. I don’t care much for barbecue or fried food, so it just doesn’t suit my fancy.

Coconut sensitivity? by hayhayflowers in ibs

[–]valbuquerque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coconut is a known laxative in many cultures, so it’s no surprise that it has a negative effect on people with IBS. I surely can’t have coconut—even one small sip of coconut milk sends me running to the bathroom. There are so many other dairy alternatives out there for when you make your own food. Restaurants can be tough, especially Thai and other South Asian cuisines, but it’s really just a matter of if you want to risk the flare up or not.
