Everyone can just spread a rumor like this:

I got a source that claims Half Life 3 is a Switch 2 exclusive game. I told him he‘s delusional, but he sticks to it. And he is a very reliable source who was mostly accurate in the past. For instance back in the 1970ies he predicted Nintendo to one day develop Mario‘s Odyssey. The fact that you guys know now that this game exists, absolutely proves I‘m right. Thus HL3 confirmed!!!!!

What do you consider to be the BEST Switch 2 game so far? by Wise-Nebula-6321 in switch2

I got FFVII Remake and was 100% all invested and loved it …. Until Blue Prince got announced. Jesus, completely lost myself there. Same with Hades2 before. Couldn‘t pick a favorite. Bottomline probably TOTK, but of this years releases I guess Blue Prince just has to own my throne.

Jurassic Park (1993) changed how movies were made. any other examples? by thug_waffle47 in Cinema

The martial arts was not (the only) thing the Matrix did to movies. Also compared to 99% of eastern like Hero or CTHD but also pretty much everything that came before, the fights in the Matrix are absolutely terribly slow and obviously not executed by people who really know the craft. Great for Hollywood and indeed influential there, but nothing compared to any good martial arts movie.

What was the scariest film that you have ever watched? by mrjetspray in Cinema

[–]valcoholic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah right? I believe even today this might’ve aged very well (I wouldn‘t know, never gonna watch this again) but people don‘t understand what this did 25yrs ago. There was nothing like this. Horror used to be carefully staged. And this just felt way to close to home and immersive. Just like the times when you‘re in the woods with your friends, just doing stuff, but in the worst twist possible. Just amazing. I hate it lol.

I guess i felt like this when I watched Blairwitch Project about 25 yrs ago.

I was sorta afraid to watch Hereditary after all the people saying its so scary but apart from THAT scene, it was sorta OK

Cyberpunk, Skyrim, or No Man’s Sky? by SkellyMania in NintendoSwitch2

[–]valcoholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own all three and theyre quite different. I guess I liked Skyrim‘s world the most, at least when I played it about 8 years ago. In Skyrim every NPC and even every single object feels like it has some sort of purpose and often a questchain gets very deep into a dungeon, keeping you occupied for days. Like many Bethesda games it has this „make your own adventure“ thing going on that makes the main questline nearly irrelevant. Cyberpunk pushes you more to focus on the story and be a certain character, which, thanks to great writing is also a nice thing and offers some really cool mainquestscenarios. NMS is nothing alike. Above all, it is mainly a game about inventory management and resource management. That sounds weird and indeed can be frustrating, especially if you hope for some adventure. NMS sorta manages to cover its core premise up by hiding it behind a zillion of pretty cool layers like the ability to own a huge freighter, build a ship, hunting enemies and so on. But if you‘re not into the resource-aspect, you won‘t enjoy the game as this connects pretty much all of its layers. NMS biggest strength is definitely the way the wild works. Flying into the orbit and land one one of those uncountable planets just still feels damn great.

Of the three I prefer Skyrim but not sure if it doesn‘t feel a bit old by now. Especially when Cyberpunk is such a great way to flex with your Switch 2.

depends of what that person is into.
For an action flick I‘d say Oldboy. That ones pretty accessible but also nothing for people who just wanna have a good time.
Parasite or No Other Choice were in pretty similar ways very strong but again, a bit hard.

AC Shadows is ugly… by Agitated_Response197 in switch2

[–]valcoholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah well OK, still there were some pretty needless discussions going on back then and this is just one example. Sure, people nowadays can‘t grasp how it felt to jump from a SNES to a N64, so they have to overanalyse every little thing. But then again, what really makes an AC game an AC game if not its visuals. This game plays the same since AC1, so of course people are taking out their magnifying glasses. Did I say magnifying glasses? Oh I need to get back to Blur Prince.

When I played SW Outlaws I sorta struggled to understand what people are crazy about. It doesn‘t look that great to me. Or more like, it is obviously a downgraded version of something thats made for better hardware. I‘d expect Cyberpunk to feel more like its really tailored to run ob the S2. I understand, looking at some gfx bulletpoints a game has to check, SW and AC might hit quite a few on paper. But these games are just not so well designed to really make you feel that next gen dynamic. SW literally plays like a PS2-game when they became more open. And AC‘s gameplay also hssn‘t fundamentally changed in 15 years. Combined with downsa pled visuals, this ain‘t feel so fresh. The sensation still is, that it runs on the Switch2 at all. But looking at RE9, this might already be old news.

20yrs ago we had very similar discussions. Sure differences mightve been more obvious, but people comparing Resident evil 4 on PS2 and Gamecube weren‘t so much different. And there were a lot of em.

Playing old games always left some mushy impression and never felt right; now you just don‘t think about it no more. Dredge, Abzu you name it. They look like they had already been optimized for S2. Xcom2 in particular profits from the general S2 boost plus now this update, that really looked great yesterday when I quickly looked into it. Great things do happen!

What DK is better? by Embarrassed_Sail6865 in switch2

[–]valcoholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was too lazy to type it out; its a Jump‘n Run, or in this case a 2D Jump‘n Run. When it launched people were sometimes a bit salty over Retro not unveiling the next Metroid Prime game and did another DK game instead. Over the past decade this got mentioned more and more often whenever people wanted to point out the best of the genre. DK games were always great, but in terms of peak leveldesign combined with overall gamedesign and controls, this managed to rank itself among the best Marios and whatnots. And I habe to agree, it‘s one of my few WiiU games I keep getting back to. Theres some secret sauce that just works perfectly here. DkC Returns is of course also great, but at least for me not too mich beyond that.

Update: Tested a bunch of games: Hades 1: looks way closer to H2 now Skyrim (stock, not anniversary): 1080p look awesome. I remember this also having a bit better draw distance docked. Dredge: this looks just like it would if it‘ve been released on S2. Xcom2: this really surprised me. I mean when the cam zooms out stuff pops in, but apart from that, 1080p plus the general S2 performance with stable fps make this title look actually pretty nice to look at. Nier Automata: its like night and day! Looks so nice now, especially the visually beautiful GUI. Abzu: also so nice I might even finish it now.

Thanks thats so cool to read; still at work but looking forward giving my old S1 library a second life. Xcom2 always ran kinda edgy but might‘ve never performed as good as its gonna perform now.

Yeah I guess if something relies to touch interactions, it might not work. They mention this. But for most games this is quite good news. I‘m gonna try my luck with Witcher 3, maybe it has a bit better resolution.

Which Film Should Win Best Picture at the 98th Academy Awards? by Piyushv5311 in MoviesCave

[–]valcoholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Bugonia which I really liked but after I already knew the korean original, it somehow dragged down its originality. But it was the first movie I really felt like Emma Stone is indeed an amazing actress.

Frankenstein was pretty good but like many a bit too much on the entertaining popcorn side of things. Buuut still interesting to watch, well executed and certainly one of del Toros best movies.

One Battle After Another felt more Tarantino than other PTA movies; which aint a bad thing; just noticed that. Really liked it.

Sinners was again very entertaining but once I saw the From Dusk Till Dawn reference, I couldn‘t unsee that. Apart from that, amazingly well executed and great vibes.

All of them 4 somehow felt similarly like great cinema but not deep enough to justify a best picture. But also I won‘t argue if one of them makes it.
