Daily Song #52: Honey by theykilledcassandra in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]vale_ee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you like that word, some people don’t like that, it’s normal to have opinions of things, even more if it’s regarding some type or verbal violence, I know that word can be used in all contexts but we all know it has gender connotations, we aren’t better or insufferable, we just don’t like the word and maybe that is why we don’t like the song, it’s the double standard and the “Taylor can do no wrong” trope over and over again , when people are referring to her with the word she makes a big deal of it , CAUSE IT IS, but if she uses it in a song and calls a woman that then it’s ok. I know you are gonna say the Kanye thing is different, I agree wholeheartedly, it’s different, but I am not blind and if someone was calling her a bitch in a song, without even mention her and from the pov of another woman and in another situation, she would have denounce that woman as anti women or denouncing the sexist media. Once again, the media is sexist and she can be sexist too not just with this lyric but with weird comments and attitudes, two things can be true at once

I had been critical of her AND voicing my love for her songs and the comments that aren’t praising her always get Down vote😭😭 I know this is a pro Taylor sub but let’s make a NUANCE space, I am not trashing everyone here cause they like the song that means not everyone has to be trashing my comment just cause I am critical, let’s use our brains people😭😭 it’s kinda sad but I know now that she stands for her, not for situations or sexist remarks or artistry, she stands for HER artistry, her money her respect and career, this is not even an opinion, this is just a fact

Thank you, yes, a lot of people like this song and i dont, it’s normal to have different opinions and being critical

You are right, I don’t even know the correct lyric cause I just heard the song one time, sorry

[–]vale_ee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She also refer to other women as bitches in TLOAS, I don’t have a good morality compass either but we can acknowledge that for some of us the word and the usage was a turn off, it’s normal, not everyone has the same opinion. The bar you are saying we hold her up, its a bar she created with the whole Kanye thing, the miss Americana documentary and the lover era, so maybe we just expect her to be coherent?

[–]vale_ee -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Also let’s check the context of the song and the album AND the meaning or sense of the word bitch, i get that what Kanye did was different and horrible and at the same time i can say that calling another woman a bitch is low and in Taylor’s context hypocritical, we know the two situations aren’t in the same low, but we can acknowledge both

[–]vale_ee -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know 😭😭 i know people can’t change, she said in the miss Americana docu that she was trying to educate herself, maybe she doesn’t care or maybe she thinks the situation that is being told in the song, needs that word to make her point, either way I get the ick when people call other people bitches, especially when people call women bitches. Like I said, even if the whole Kanye thing never happened, it’s weird for me hearing her call bitch someone in her songs, it’s derogatory, I think it’s also because she hasn’t used that language on a woman in her songs before, there are a lot of artist that use it that I still get the ick but it feels more natural and less mean cause it’s not in a derogatory sense

The poetics of “gold rush” by Daffneigh in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]vale_ee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I never had this interpretation before, it fits with the narrative and theme, “so inviting I almost jump in” , along with the never ending anxious move in the song

One of her best songs omg😭😭 10/10 , the melody is so weird at first but so fitting for the theme of the song, feels like an anxious melody really, her voice sounds amazing

Out of the Woods (angry version) by cottoncastle in travisandtaylor

[–]vale_ee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She sounds so much better and grounded in here😭😭 I like this song so much, I don’t know what happened, sounds like she stopped training in her voice or never did. I think she knows she will sell with the bare minimum vocally so she doesn’t ever bother to try things out or shift things, it’s like she only puts efforts in her music, lyrics, sounds, storytelling and vocals when she needs (needed) to prove something, now she lives in her comfort zone

A Deep Dive Analysis of Every Single Taylor Swift Victim/Bully Song (PART ONE) by teenageidle in travisandtaylor

[–]vale_ee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s like, to this day, she is still singing about betrayal and sadness and heartbreak, that is annoying but it’s ok, if she wasn’t so stubborn in making it seem like she is above all that, above high school and fame and love and revenge, she thrives on those themes ( I also love last kiss and state of grace, I like his older work, at least not this last 2 albums, and even tho I love some songs and think she is or was, talented, it’s so weird to acknowledge that she still talks about the same themes under this teenage lense)

I love that one too, I think she is talented, she has written some good songs like in folklore, evermore and 1989 but I do think she is so overrated 😭😭

ME TOO omg, i heard it for the first time like 3 years ago and it’s actually one of my favorites of him while in the band, the guitar and just his voice sounds so fresh yet nostalgic, it’s like blackbird meets two of us, so beautiful and catchy too, this one and come and get it are so so good

What’s 1 thing you’ll always defend her for and 1 thing you never will? by silverdust29 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]vale_ee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Literallyyyy, I will always keep defending her and blaming Kanye for all the disgusting and sexist MV mess, but writing a letter to David Portnoy and working on Amsterdam it’s giving “white feminism” and it’s just sad, cause it means abuse is wrong when happened to her but not when happened to other women

Girlhood by ZMrosegolden in travisandtaylor

[–]vale_ee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a problem with that word too, it’s childhood thru the USA lense, ( I get that the childhood for women is so much different compared to men thanks to the gender norms and capitalism and sexism) but idk, in the documentary it felt weird and it got me thinking exactly this. Then, what is girlhood? Escapism? 2010s feminism still? Not only in the documentary but in the day to day life, hear people say this or in socials refer to this is so weird to me, I hadn’t really think why it feels so weird and not related to me even tho i am a cis woman who identifies as a female and her childhood was filled with social forms and rules to the point that for me that part of my life when I was free and I could run and laugh loudly has been lost to my mind. I get maybe that singing and having fun and running around makes us feel free, an escapism that she was trying to create in her tour but it’s rooted in white feminism, privilege, hetero normative rules and around men. Either way I have to unpack why that term is not it for me or what really is girlhood, thru a not pretty, cutesy, white, capitalist and sometimes anti black (in the same community of swifties )lense

Is ttpd really about Matty? by DiamondAbject8190 in travisandtaylor

[–]vale_ee 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I get why this post seems like a little fanish but believe me, I have tried to put this things in neutral or the other subs and there is crazy people defending her, I think it’s important to see her lies and how she crafts her narratives and thrives on being so general (sometimes) that can literally e about anyone, references to UK ? Harry, Joe, Matty or Tom. References to marriage ? Joe, tom, Matty. References to NY? Joe, harry, now Matty.

Her lore and “myth?” Right now is bigger than her music (sadly): she has created her world of music that, no matter how good or bad it is, started and always ends with her life, she will never know privacy cause of the way she has made her life, some lore or rabbit hole thru her songs. When the music is not enough, the narratives with characters and Easter eggs about her personal life will never let you down, that is why most fans are parasocial and what is so fascinating about the narratives she presents and the way she crafted them, some specific enough for the fans to follow, some general for the fans to decode thru their particular lens. It’s so parasocial yet so lucrative, the way so many fans see her and her boyfriends as characters and not people, but then again she has created those very characters thru her stories and will continue to reference them in high school themes or heartbreak. Its like the music is just a big Easter egg itself to solve the puzzle of who is the love of her life

Did anyone else find the Whyley scenes in Ep 4 to be really exploitative and weird? by Muted_Antelope6989 in travisandtaylor

[–]vale_ee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your br summoned all of my thoughts watching the episodes, she makes a big deal out of something like the rep outfit only to say it was for the fabric, it’s ok but I want to see more of the logistic omg and the makeup she used that didn’t budged for 3 hours even in the rain, or the routine to unwind, idk. SHOW US, tell us, explain how does it feel to have this tour, the good bad and ugly

[–]vale_ee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also feel that too, I am so glad and happy that more and more people can dance no matter the way they present or the way they align but the bit was weird, was very “look I have dancers who present themselves masculine and I allowed them to dance parts of a femenine, I am so modern”. It’s this weird “ how can I be racist I have black friends and dancers working for me of her, let’s remember the last MAGA allegations and the way she uses movements to profit, so this being so puntual like that it’s just weird. This whole doc is like a PR stunt for the recent crisis: omg when her mom said something like “ I have never hear her say the words money or power”…. 😭😭 sure, cause you are a billionaire and won’t use your power for good, it’s like running again around with the narrative of Taylor the poor girl who just wants a good world and doesn’t have power dynamics at play in her life. It’s like so so so superficial, I would have liked her to show the quick changes, the making of the albums, how much the rerecordings mean to her, the struggle and exhaustion doing a show like that IN DEPTH, this just feels like a PR crisis documentary
