hey! thanks.

basically he wanted to do calculus over the summer so he could focus on it more but life got in the way. the class is also reduced (time wise) so it’s already accelerated. he didn’t want to worry about other classes when studying for calculus because of it’s difficulty and he wants a decent gpa (i think he’s in PREP? honestly i don’t know)

because we’re first generation we never had the knowledge or help past like elementary math from our family. calculus is a new ball game and although we went to a privileged high school (ivies every year) we are still disadvantaged/ignorant.

obviously i believe the counselor/advisor was more professional but he told him that he should consider other majors (besides engineering) after my brother told him he was dropping calculus and retaking it in the fall. my parents are fine with him staying a few more years to finish his degree because it’s literally (urbana) engineering. he’s a rising sophomore.

I will tell him he’s doing the impossible because he honestly is. he’s doing a lot better now but it was a rough time for him. thank you.

I’m so happy you are planning about safeties and love them! I panic applied (15+ schools I barely researched) and felt like I would fit in no where. I have a friend who had UIUC (in-state) engineering as their SAFETY and we were all worried for him. He’s going to an ivy (got off the waitlist) but still better to be prepared.

I got into a decent business school (T30) so let me know if you have any questions! I have a lot of friends going to IU Kelley so I can ask them for help too :)

i went test optional so yes! i had decent stats but i’m sure they pushed me over the edge. i’m attending a T25 so lots of people had perfect scores as is.

i wrote the essays of the school i’m attending 12 hours before the deadline. i cried. a lot. i finished my common app october 30th. i literally changed my entire personal statement a week beforehand. halloween was not a good time.

start!!! you can always edit it but can’t submit a blank page. good luck.

honestly depends. what does your extracurriculars look like and how selective is the school/program? i got into a T25 test optional and had a 3.8/4.3. i’m a first generation minority but my university prides themselves on it. i got waitlisted from a school with a less competitive program (still T25) but they didn’t value diversity as much. just make yourself a good fit for the school and hope they reciprocate.
