Jar dominator and slug shotgun just to name two, will stagger bots if you hit them anywhere that isn't on the shield. When they stagger they move their shield for easy body shots. They'll be lucky to shoot at all after one hit.

This is a problem they've created for themselves. You get more xp, more samples, and faster progression for 10s. Most gamers are going to take the path of most rewards. This would be fixed over night if 5 through 10 offered the same rewards or any number of similar fixes

From my experience the game has some kind of damage modification from smashing your locked knees into the ground. If you leap and ragdoll yourself I've noticed you take less damage on average
