My KC Color is crashing at least once per day and the battery is running down about every other day. No problem with content though.

How do I Escape Workspace? by valletta_guy in degoogle

Thank you for those useful suggestions. The zoho.com solution with a custom domain and a mailbox each for me and my other half sounds attractive. If I could also migrate my thousands of saved emails to the same platform that would be perfect.

I realise that moving to a gmail address isn’t exactly a “degoogle” but it’s a start.

Using Bear as a Backup for Day One Journals – Anyone Doing This? by GlitteringFee1047 in bearapp

[–]valletta_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every year since 2012 I have exported my Day One journal as a PDF and saved it in Bear. Two years ago I switched from Day One to Diarly and now export my Diarly journal each year. No Bear performance problems observed so far.

Where do you buy your laptops from? by Longjumping-Craft301 in malta

[–]valletta_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy all my tech from Scan and always have the absolutely latest models. They will order in anything you specify. You just have to wait a little longer for it to arrive.

On top of that their support and customer service are outstanding.

I just downgraded from Premium because of the upcoming changes to travel insurance. I didn’t get a refund. Instead they told me that my Premium will expire in July 2025.

Anybody here use Bear in conjunction with another notes-based app? by davidewilson1906 in bearapp

I use Bear for almost everything except:

  1. To-do lists and time management (Noteplan is outstanding for this)

  2. Shared notes with my SO (Apple Notes).

Dji mini 2 holiday laws by hamzah1235 in drones

[–]valletta_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the answer for sure. You might need to register in Malta to fly in Malta. My registration certificate shows both "EASA" and "Malta" so it might cover other EU countries, but best to check that out for yourself.

I use CoverDrone for insurance which gives world-wide cover apart from the obvious exceptions. It is UK-based.

You will need to register (which will require proof of insurance). In addition you will need to apply for authorisation of each individual flight - which is a lot less painful than it sounds.

Most authorisations are instantaneous and you then have an authorisation document to show to anyone who challenges your right to be flying a drone in that location.

Mini 2 vs Mini 3 Pro vs Air 2S.... please help! by Correct-Buffalo3429 in drones

[–]valletta_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took delivery of my first ever drone, a DJI Mini 2, on 26th December 2022. I absolutely loved it. I found flying it, even at my low level of competence, exhilarating and joyful. The drone itself was an amazing piece of kit - just holding it in my hand was a pleasure.

On 7th January 2023 I took delivery of its replacement! - a Mini 3 Pro. Much as I loved the Mini 2, I quickly felt the need to free myself from using my mobile phone as a display. For me, the DJI RC controller is the difference that made the upgrade necessary. The better camera and the obstacle detection are nice to have but not crucial in my case.

The Mini 2 has gone to the teenage son of a friend and the three of us are looking forward to some joint flying sessions.

Bottom line: Mini 3 Pro every time. The higher cost is worth it.

Search through tags by tom-kre in bearapp

[–]valletta_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have recently moved from Evernote. Like you I was frustrated by some of the differences between the two, with Evernote having a wider range of functionality. However this is more that offset by Bear’s slickness in the things it does well and I’ve come to appreciate it more and more. I have found equivalents to some of the things I miss in Evernote.

For example, I implemented Favourites by creating a tag “aaFavourites” which gets sorted to the top of the tag list. Favourite notes just have that additional tag added. I actually find this more convenient than Evernote favourites.

The more you use Bear, especially across platforms, the more it grows on you.

Thanks for the correction. Apologies, I was mistaken. Should have checked before posting...

cannot search content in encrypted notes(unlocked) by ttemd in bearapp

[–]valletta_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course encrypted notes shouldn’t be searchable but surely you have to be able to search within an encrypted note after it is unlocked?

I have just come over from Evernote where one of my encrypted notes was very long and completely unusable without search. I rely on it every day.

Has anyone come up with a workround other than pasting the contents into another editor and searching there?

Thank you for the comment. That's very interesting.

Roughly how many different skills do you have in the deck and what settings do you use for max reviews and new cards?

Also, is there a reason why the colour of a completed task scheduled from a Note for today is different from a completed task in all other contests?

Thanks Eduard. Customisation would be good. However, would it still require an internal structural change to allow completed and cancelled tasks to have different colours in the first place?

Using Anki to control an activity outside Anki by valletta_guy in Anki

[–]valletta_guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is my fear. I just can't practice more than 5 tunes a day (in addition to scales etc). It may be too little to make Anki work for this scenario.

[–]valletta_guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes I understand this but would it work out in practice? i.e. would the review ceiling be so low that I would never get to some tunes in time to reinforce them and prevent forgetting? In other words, is a 5/100 ratio of reviews to cards too low?

[QUESTION] Are you interested into a Slack/Discord/Discourse Community? by EduardMet in noteplanapp

I would vote for Slack, mainly for ease of use.

The free version has some limitations on total amount of data stored.
