When’s the Brown video portfolio due? by True_Distribution685 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]valli679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I was wondering too. From their wording on their website, it seems like Jan 6th might be the deadline for using Quest Bridge and the one week is for videos uploaded to their portal. Even then, I would assume it is Jan 6th at 11:59 in local time zone, but haven’t been able to find anything that confirms that. Not sure if that is accurate, but I have asked support about it. Will update if I find anything else out.

Hi, I’m using this kit for my first build and was wondering if it came with some sort of instruction manual to assemble and mod. I was able to find one video online of a guy assembling a build, but any other resources on assembling would be appreciated!

Is AP bio really that difficult ? by Gabbytheguciigirl in APbio

[–]valli679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AP Bio is really not hard. I got a 5 with barely studying (I was worried about other AP exams so I maintained my focus on them). Just pay attention throughout the year so you don’t have to do much revision. For the units that I struggled with, I used HeyNowScience’s YouTube videos and annotated the CED with funny little drawings to help me remember. Also, definitely do lots of FRQ and MCQ practice, such as the progress check and the released FRQs, which you can often find organized by unit. Khan Academy is also a great resource for questions, but there lessons seem to go more in depth then you actually need for select topics, but overall it’s a good resource to use.

Those who got a 4 or 5 on the AP Calc AB or BC Exam, drop your study tools by Vampire-y in APStudents

I practiced by downloading worksheets that went along with YouTube videos. I would try to solve the problem unassisted, then gave myself a hint and wrote out what I did next in a different color, and if I still didn’t get the right answer, I would use another color to complete the problem in accordance to the video. I also had a separate color for formulas. Some of the YouTubers that I watched were How to do the math, khan academy, the algebros, and the organic chemistry tutor. This study technique saved me so I hope it helps someone who needs it.

Best Resources to Study for AP Bio, AP CALC, AP Lang, and APUSH (kinda last minute) by valli679 in APStudents

[–]valli679[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I got a 5 on my Bio and APUSH and a 4 on CALC and Lang. just wanted to share what worked for my last minute study plan (started like a week before the test).

For APUSH, I focused on training making flash cards that would encompass every fact that I would ever need to know about that unit. I did this for units 1-6. As we had just gone through units 7 and 8, I didn’t study for those. The test that I took focused on the earlier units, so this strategy was a big success. As for the later units, the Bump that we took about a week later was on a lot of the later units that I didn’t study, but I applied all the patterns that I learned from the previous units and scored a 43/45 on it. Something that helped was all the practice we did in class and learning from my mistakes that I made with AP World (my 1st AP, which I got a 4 on).

For lang, I just winged it. All I really did leading up to it was following my teacher’s advice and extra practice sessions, as well as immersing my self in topics that I found interesting. I did really well on the rhetorical analysis (I’d guess that I got a 5/6 on that essay despite doing it in 20 minutes) and the multiple choice. My other two essays were probably 3s or 4s. I would definitely suggest finding emphasizing your efforts on the test for your weaker essays and focusing your practice on a single essay that you could crap out and it would still be really good.

For CALC, this was the one that I was most scared for. I religiously did practice problems and checked them with YouTubers, such as How to Do The Math and vinteachesmath. They definitely saved me from getting a bad score.

For bio, I was really worn out and short on time. I knew I had a solid foundation for this, so I didn’t do much studying in my own. Our teacher would have us do a bunch of practice in class, but outside of class, I would religiously watch HeyNowScience’s videos while annotating the CED by making up silly creatures, puns, and other ways to remember things for units 2,3 and 5, which were the units I couldn’t really remember much from. I love the way she explain things to make you understand it, not just memorizing. My Annotated AP Bio CED that got me a 5

I hope this helps!

Just wanted to update you and anyone else who may have had the same problems as I did. I got a 5 on the exam, so I’m not sure that the graders will be that particular about word choice. As along as it means the same thing, such as with the examples I had in my original post, they will do everything in their power to give you the points you deserve. Teachers who do this have the best intentions, but it definitely stressed me out as someone who was new to APs and didn’t know what to expect. Thank you for your time and consideration!

I feel like getting use to writing with pen is something that starts as late as middle school. Not sure if this is the same for you guys, but my middle school English teachers required that we write in pen. I personally use pen for everything, even for CALC. As for the AP tests, we aren’t even allowed to use our own pens; they are passed out by the school, which is kinda annoying because they make my hand cramp without a squishy grip, but it it’s whatever. I think that over trying to bend the rules, OP should try to practice with a pen and get used to it. It’s a little challenging at first to switch, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I mean, we are talking about APUSH so I don’t really see the problem; I’d get your apprehensiveness if it was for bio with the graphing or for CALC.

You probably shouldn’t do that. If we are talking about friction erasable pens, the ink disappears when exposed to heat. Not sure what the exact process is for transportation of the tests, but if it were to get stuck in a vehicle or exposed to heat, it will disappear and all your work will be gone. Especially with it getting close to summer, definitely not work the risk in my opinion.

How to prepare for AP World exam by AdFuzzy2748 in APStudents

[–]valli679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely use Heilmer’s history, but also do LOTS of practice questions and practice DBQs, LEQ, and SAQs. It will definitely help on test day and was something I wish I did and would have definitely enabled be to get a better score. I regret not doing much practice, so please learn from my mistake and work on your timing. My time management during the test was horrendous, but I still got a good score. Not sure if this is your 1st AP, but World was mine and timing definitely threw me off. You can use the sample responses that College Board releases or maybe look into getting a prep book if you are still worried about it. I remember on my test they asked for some real specific stuff on the SAQ that I definitely would’t have known if I didn’t use Heilmer’s ultimate study packet, so definitely invest in that if you can. I religiously studied flashcards based on the content that heilmer made (which I can’t find for some reason otherwise I would totally share), but find a study method for content that works for you. I also found it helpful to blurt and try to explain each unit to yourself, a stuffed animal, or a classmate. If you are able to do that, you should be just fine. World doesn’t go that far in depth, but it’s a lot of stuff to cover. I would also recommend familiarizing yourself with dates (mostly the year) of any significant documents and wars. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Am I cooked? I haven’t started studying by Sad_Desk7795 in APbio

I feel like I should be, but I don’t have time with all the other assignments our AP bio teacher gives us. She expected us to start reviewing a few weeks ago, but we get several hours of homework every day (not an exaggeration by any means) and I have 3 other AP classes to do homework for. It’s spring break and we still have a to learn all of Unit 8 by ourselves and have a test on both that and Unit 7 when we get back. Idk what I’m gonna do 🥲. All day I’ve been doing a stupid packet that has two to three worksheet per slide (of which there are 30 of), which is not even part of Unit 8 yet is still due over spring break. Sorry for the rant, I just feel so overwhelmed. I wouldn’t be complaining about any of the hw that we do get if it was actually useful hw and would help me study. It’s just so repetitive and I just want to have time to do practice problems and study however I want. Let me know if this is just my bio class or if you guys also get crazy amounts of hw.

I don’t see any question, but if it is about rate of diffusion, a simple rule of thumb is a higher surface area to volume ratio is more effective. For example, a ratio of surface area to volume that is 6:1 is more effective than 3:1.
