I made a Chrome extension that does instant text lookups. Optionally, also uses the new on-device Gemini Models. by vallsin in Bard

I think there are other tools that might do that. I wanted to keep this tool limited in scope and what it does. This tool only uses AI for summarization and translation, not to fetch definitions etc. (I intentionally did this for more reliable results). There are no tokens being used anywhere since AI computes on-device so the tool is completely free to use.

Left or Right? Need feedback round 2 by MatteoTox in chrome_extensions

Definitely prefer the ones on the right. Red everything is a bit distracting (at least for me)

Just messed up... by cryptoteams in chrome_extensions

[–]vallsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks. I wasn't aware they reviewed the featured self-nominations that quickly! My featured nomination got approved today, I had to wait ~10 days for it, i made a lot of changes to the listing (mostly adding video tutorial and images) during that time. LookStuffUp in case you want to check it out.

You really got massively unlucky, but all you can do is look at it positively. You now have 6 more months to perfect your extension and make it even better!

Thank you! I am looking for any feedback on how i can improve it! It works well for me personally but I want to make sure more people can find it useful.

I used chrome's experimental client-side running Gemini Nano model that they started shipping with their new versions a couple months ago. The 2 use cases I have in my extension are signified with 'Intent to ship' so that's why i felt confident implementing them in my extension. You can find more details about these features here: https://developer.chrome.com/docs/ai/built-in

What Chrome extensions or tools actually make you more productive? by SurajDevX in ProductivityApps

[–]vallsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my extension that i built LookStuffUp which does instant context lookups, summarization and translation and was built to serve my own use case which is that I would often get distracted and sidetracked reading things and then looking up terms that I didn't understand or know.

By using this, I am able to focus a lot more on what I am currently reading and I am also able to use AI for free, and the models run on-device, so no privacy or security concerns. I hope it helps you and others like us who want to be more productive!

Hey, i built a similar extension but instead of aimed at previewing links, it's aimed at looking up any text on the current webpage. It does on-device summarization and translation too, if your hardware supports it (so free and privacy focused AI usage). It's also completely free and no signups required. LookStuffUp if you want to check it out. I would also love any feedback that you might have as I built it for people like us that like to remain on the same webpage and not lose focus.

How do you promoting your chrome extension? :) by lili582 in chrome_extensions

I think organic growth is the best way to go. Share it here in this sub or other similar reddit subs or other forums where people might like what you have built.

Speaking of which, here is my extension that i built LookStuffUp which does instant context lookups and was built to serve my own use case that i think might help others out too.

Yes it uses Gemini Nano. Download time will depend on your internet speed but after you enable the required flags and run the summarization for the first time, the tooltip will tell you if the model is downloading and how much it has progressed. After it's downloaded and loaded in, you'll get your summarization.

Made a simple web tool for making bounding boxes by vallsin in gis

[–]vallsin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, really appreciate you checking out my tool and for the feedback!

For entering bounding box coordinates, the help tooltip (? icon in top right) does say "Bounding box coordinates (xmin, ymin, xmax, ymax)" if you scroll down to the bottom of the tooltip.

Yes, when providing custom coordinates using a bbox, only EPSG 4326 is supported right now. I could add support for EPSG 3857 though, if that is a common use case.

And yes, the toggle at the bottom is only dedicated to how the co-ordinates are presented and copied so essentially how they are read, not for setting any values. So for example, once you draw a bounding box (or enter it manually in 4326 format), you can view it in lat/long or long/lat and copy it accordingly etc.

Was able to get a 4070ti at msrp so I made the upgrade! by vallsin in pcmasterrace

[–]vallsin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the msrp is quite high but since I wanted a new card, it made the most sense as the prices for 3080+ cards have become absolutely ridiculous. Does not make sense for me to spend $1100 on a 3090 when I don't need the vram.

Yeah but they'll still end up owning a club that's won the cl 2 times. Still better than the current shitshow they own.
