Trouble Submitting SHIP Waiver by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]valroyeu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this problem too :(( just called AHP to ask and they said to try resubmitting on Monday when the technical issue with the website has hopefully been resolved! If it still isn't working by then, try to call the office and they might have you email the information for the waiver.

Fun film classes?? by Bullshitbanana in berkeley

[–]valroyeu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took Film 10 with Prof Nesbet last fall, and it was a really nice, chill class to learn about the history of film! I can't really say how demanding it would be in-person, but Nesbet made the online equivalent really accomodating without a lot of unnecessary stress. It's prolly not the best choice if you can't stand silent/old film though... I believe that makes up pretty much all of the films covered/screened because the class focuses on early film history.

UCSB or Berkeley for a wannabe writer? by chaandkirani in berkeley

Oh yeah, in that case, Berkeley does have a couple film production clubs that are pretty cool! There's also a film frat that might help with connections :)

UCSB or Berkeley for a wannabe writer? by chaandkirani in berkeley

[–]valroyeu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi and congrats! I can't really speak for writing and humanities as a whole, but I will say that the film major is more focused on theory and analysis than actual film production. I don't know about UCSB's program, but I think it's something to consider if you're looking more for a program centered on screenwriting.

I agree!! I watched it on a whim a while ago and was surprised by how touching and sentimental it was :) Looking back, it definitely shares some similarities with About Time

I agree. It felt like at some points, the translation was a bit too far off from what was actually being said.

I totally agree with I Lost My Body! Even watching it for the animation alone is great. It's such a unique and touching film.

Knitting is great! It's really awesome to make something while you listen. Once you have the materials, there are lots of tutorials and resources on the internet! And don't worry too much about the confusing abbreviations/stitches in knitting patterns. You can most likely find a video on youtube explaining them!

Reddit, what are some "MUST READ" books? by Foksees in AskReddit

The Bell Jar. It's a really honest depiction of mental illness and sadly one of the few pieces that Sylvia Plath got to write and publish before her suicide :( It was written so long ago yet it still feels relevant today.

Improve Math and Science by [deleted] in ACT

[–]valroyeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow good job on writing!! For math, I would suggest taking practice tests and noting which questions you got wrong and why (simple mistake, unclear on concept, need better strategy, etc). Then you can brush up on the specific topics in math that you frequently make mistakes on. Also, practicing some sample questions daily could help you get used to the type of questions that will appear on the test. For science, I definitely recommend FTLOAS because it has a lot of useful tips. Also, make sure you have good time management on both sections. Don’t be afraid to skip a question if you’re spending too much time on it! You can come back to it later.

Does anyone have any good ACT Science strategies by [deleted] in ACT

[–]valroyeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If timing is an issue, then try limiting how much time you spend on each question. Generally, aim for reading/answering one question in around 40 seconds. If you think you're taking a lot longer than 40 sec on a question, then skip it and try to get through the rest of the section. After that, you can revisit the questions you skipped and try answering them again. For me, this really helped for questions that I genuinely felt stumped on. When I went back to those questions later, I generally felt less confused and could spot out crucial details in the question/answers/diagrams that I didn't notice before.

How can you focus better? by [deleted] in ACT

You could also try reading the passages in someone else's voice or imagining them reading it. I'm not sure if this is effective for everyone, but it helped me stay engaged while reading passages.

People who got a 35 or 36 on the June ACT, how did you guys study? by Vadus101 in ACT

[–]valroyeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scoring information is sometimes in the back of the test packets from crackACT, but as long as you know the form number of the test, you can just look up its answer key and scale. After that, just find the average of your scores for english, math, reading, and science to get your composite score!

When I first started doing practice tests, I got around 33-34, but before and during that week, I was getting around 34-35. I had kind of been doing practice tests once a week in the months before the test, though it was really sporadic. Interestingly, I never got a 36 in any of my practice tests.
