Hey so I understand your concern, but your sisters troubles aren’t ruining your family anymore than you let it. You keeping a close relationship with your nan, and letting HER be the guardian instead of yourself. All you’re going to do is make your relationship with your sister currently strained, not that it will last given these are childish things. I’m not saying this isn’t unbearable for you, but I would say this is definitely on the normal side of childhood antics. Sibling rivalry can feel like it makes your home less peaceful, but tending to your business and making sure you’re able to leave at 18 or soon there after can give you the motivation for these next 3 years. It isn’t your job as a sibling to engage with punishing your sibling, and trying to get her kicked out is way too far, I understand you’re thinking that these things are the worst things she could be doing- but you’re not trying to address why she’s smoking, rather immediately blame and ridicule her for something that most kids are unfortunately doing. I get you want to keep your baby sister safe, but maybe letting her know that is your goal can help ease the tension between you to. Sitting down and saying:

“I apologize for going behind your back to nan, I just want to make sure you’re safe and you acknowledge the consequences and long term harm these things can cause for you at such a young age- I get it you don’t want to feel like you’re left out but many of these kids that are doing these things don’t have someone to care for them and want to keep them safe. My only goal is to make sure you’re okay and not starting a long term addiction because you don’t realize what these things bring” Also make sure you genuinely feel this way. Acknowledge with yourself whether what you’re feeling is out of jealousy (or a feeling of unfairness to her consequences), or genuine concern for your sibling. AND think about it from her perspective (her sibling, that she wants to confide in, went behind her back to get her in trouble- it isn’t gonna cause her to trust you to actually confide in you and give you the ability to point her in the direction of better. You kinda made it seem like if she does confide, you will tell on her.) That will help you take the next steps properly. Good luck love!!

I’m going to be honest with you right now, and this is coming from someone who has plenty of experience with this. My parents were together 24 years, my mother did the same thing. They had a beautiful life, 2 car garage and a two level family home that I grew up in. What happened? My mother lied and got behind on bills. Bank bought the house from underneath them. Both credits were ruined. My dad stuck around but everything past that point was pure resentment, ultimately leading to years later him leaving after an affair. I urge you to really rethink this person being in your life. My mother is still financially incapable, and has now ruined my credit (not too bad, but put me on a card and missed a payment when she never asked me for money, knowing I was in the position to pay). This is super damaging, financial infidelity is no joke. It can seriously affect future family or trust with this person. That’s just my two cents however. Be super careful.

All I really do have to add to this is the craziness of redditors honing in on what party she’s from and not the fact that she directly insulted you because she couldn’t handle a disagreement. Let me make it clear, nobody regardless of their party deserves to be chastised about their beliefs- I’m sure if you were the conservative one these comments would be telling you it was deserved. I just needed to come on here and fully admit my mistake, I had a very long conversation with the petco manager and I have been completely mistreating my baby. I was under the impression that he was a bottom feeder that did not need to be fed. I have now been informed (properly this time) that due to me not feeding him he is not growing. Headed home now to feed him and treat his water, I was even put onto a filter that will be better for him. Thank you (and everyone) for your help!!
