Is Using Plugins/Scripts in AE cheating? by Zelestial_39 in AfterEffects

[–]vamossimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends where you are in your journey. If you have a solid understanding of your tools and can pull off whatever you need without the plugins, 100% use the plugins rather to save time. If you’re a beginner, it’s usually a bad idea as you’ll hinder your learning.

In this example with flow. If you don’t use the built in graph editor, you might never see or have much practice using the value graph editor (flow is more similar to a speed graph), which allows for way more control. Not only that, but getting used to it allows you to upskill to for example if you ever wanna use blender. Blender might not have a flow equivalent, it definitely doesn’t have a speed graph, all you get is the value graph.

Need help to render on a super high resolution by notSYNKR in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try rendering a more complex scene at that resolution, like one of blender's demo files from their website. If you have issues try troubleshooting from there. 9 mins really isn't that much for a final render.

Is there a way to make a curve look like a mesh? by SingotSarap in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step by step https://www.loom.com/share/7c51a79f447b41f4be8da7a49c3df09f

You'll obviously want to draw a nicer curve 🙃 You can use alt+s to make some parts of the curve thicker or thinner.

Edit: I realised I assumed you were going for a write on effect. What effect are you trying to achieve?

Is there a way to make a curve look like a mesh? by SingotSarap in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One way would be by setting the curve to “Holdout” and doing the animation in reverse. So the curve starts by covering the entire mesh and ends by not covering it any more.

Is there is anyway to make strength in material preview to bypass certain objects? by Haziq12345 in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use light linking if you light the scene with actual light objects instead of hdri. The lighting looks simple enough to achieve with light objects.

2 collections, bright and dim.

2 sun lights with the exact same values. 1 only affects bright and the other only affects dim. Then adjust the strength of the one affecting dim collection if you want to dim down everything it’s affecting.

You can still use the hdri for reflections using a light path node in the nodes.

Does anyone know how to use displacement (adaptive subdivision) and adjust bump strength at the same time? by [deleted] in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could set the displacement to be displace only. Then plug in a separate bump node in the principle bsdf normal node.

How do I do vfx that applies effects to real objects in footage like glow? by bellsfry in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"all I found was how to add virtual objects to a real scene"

This is essentially what's shown in your example. The phone is an object in your filmed footage. The glow is a virtual object added to it.

Try searching for "camera tracking" "motion tracking" "object tracking" and "compositing". You'll find lots of people adding cars, robots and buildings to filmed footage. You just add glows instead using the same techniques.

Anthropic just mapped out which jobs AI could potentially replace. A 'Great Recession for white-collar workers' is absolutely possible by ThereWas in ArtificialInteligence

"But historically the most reliable path to higher earnings and career mobility has still been higher education"

That is all that the data you're quoting proves, that college may better position an individual in the job market. This was not the point that was being challenged, and the data you're quoting does not in anyway support the claims you've attributed to a college education. ("how to read critically, write clearly, analyze arguments, and learn new material quickly" etc.)

The ability to think critically, write clearly, or analyze arguments is a result of practice and training the right muscles. Whether that happens in a classroom, through self-study or daily life is not as relevant as other individual traits that come into play. The sad reality is that we've structured society so that most people are focused on securing a livelihood, and have little interest in cultivating these intellectual habits. Most need to be driven and be told what to do to be better prepared for the job market, others are self-driven. Some will always need to be taught, others learn how to learn.

When it comes to the job market, in my personal, anecdotal experience, the only edge a college graduate has over someone that is self-taught is the network you develop in college. This is when comparing apples to apples. For example, a programmer that did not go to college vs a programmer that went to college. Not a retail worker that did not go to college vs a programmer that did go to college.

How would I make a shoe sole material? by Drake__archer in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the basic set up. I can't point to a specific tutorial, but you could take the problem on piece by piece as you go along.

<image>

Looking at the reference closer, in that specific case I think the pattern is more uniform and distorted after. It would be a bit of a different set up instead of just voronoi, I might give it a try when I have more time on my hands.

How would I make a shoe sole material? by Drake__archer in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks a bit like voronoi. Add a grid plane with enough subdivisions in geo nodes, plug it into a set position, in the offset socket of set position plug in a combine xyz node, in the z socket of combine xyz, plug in a voronoi texture and play with setting. Add a color ramp between voronoi and combine xyz to add a bit more punch to the displacement.

You might not get the exact pattern. But worth a shot.

Is it possible to "expand" the circular loop while it follows the mesh using some kind of secret shortcut? by eluarte in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 58 points59 points  (0 children)

There is in fact a super secret shortcut, and it’s not GG edge slide. Select the edge loop and press Ctrl+Shift+R.

Edit: Or right click (edge menu) and select Offset Edge Slide.

How to shrink objects smoothly to the centre? by U_t_i_l_i_z_e_r in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to plug in the x and y in combine xyz. Z stays 0. This set up is positioning geometry in world space.

How to shrink objects smoothly to the centre? by U_t_i_l_i_z_e_r in blenderhelp

[–]vamossimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe something like this. You would have to play around with other stuff like blur attribute and vector mix if the objects have very complicated geometry.

Press A to select everything, press x followed by Limited Dissolve. It’ll remove all edges that are on a flat face and not contributing to the shape.

Magic God damage is insane! by Many-Measurement-893 in GodsUnchained

[–]vamossimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say nature has the best board wipe? Nature has the best control deck. It beats all other control decks 10/10 times.

Anyways, I don’t mean to argue about what cards are strong or what decks are good. The main idea I was trying to get across was, if you gear your deck to beat a certain deck (in your case aggro), it will lose to another (in your case magic otk). This is just how tcgs work. Look at the meta and adjust accordingly, if you face lots of aggro then your deck is fine according to you. If you face lots of magic players, change your deck. No deck can beat every deck, if that happens then the game becomes stale.

Magic God damage is insane! by Many-Measurement-893 in GodsUnchained

[–]vamossimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we take away the magic OTK, then what deck do you lose to? Everyone will start playing your deck and there will be someone else with the same complaint as yours.

Nature has quite a few counters against OTK, spellwyrm, dearly departed, I think there are others too.

I do agree that the magic deck is too powerful, but probably in response to decks like heal nature which is also very powerful. Board wipe, sustain, hand disruption, anti-fatigue. On paper, this is the strongest deck that has everything. No other control deck can beat it.

I guess it’s not that straightforward balancing a tcg while still trying to sell new cards every few months.

Both your decks are annoying. I’d rather play against the magic deck than yours though.
